A RELAXATION METHOD
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a method of achieving substantial relaxation for humans.
It is conventional to use acupuncture techniques for treatment of various human complaints.
We have found that by combining other techniques with acupuncture techniques then we obtain an effect which appears to be very powerful indeed and result in effects which are more effective than use of the individual techniques alone would produce.
The object of the invention then is to provide an improved non invasive treatment for assisting a person to obtain substantial and lasting relaxation or at the least to provide persons with a wider choice of alternative techniques to assist in this purpose.
The invention can be said to reside in a method of effecting relaxation for a human which combines the techniques at substantially the same time of traditional Chinese Qigong with the techniques of acupuncture and music.
Accordingly the invention in one form of this invention then resides in a method of effecting brain relaxation of humans comprising:
the person having applied to selected acupuncture points on his or her body effective acupuncture activating electrical pulses, at the same time the person listening to music, during which time the person also takes a number of deep breaths with also, at the same time, applying with pressure from the hand or hands of the user compression to the abdomen of the user.
In preference at least one of the acupuncture points is the anmien point.
In preference at least one of the acupuncture points is the yongbai point.
In preference the acupuncture activating pulses from the positive node are repeated within a frequency rate of between 5 to 15 milliseconds between successive positive voltage pulses.
In preference the acupuncture activating pulses have a voltage on a positive side of between 20 to 40 volts and on the negative side of between 63 to 77 volts.
In preference the acupuncture activating pulses are applied by applying the positive electrode to the anmien point.
In preference the acupuncture activating pulses are applied by applying the negative element to the yongbai point.
In preference the hand pressure on the abdomen is applied over the navel and by both hands of the person.
In preference the music is provided to the ears of the person with a sound level not more than 60dB.
The invention may reside in apparatus for effecting brain relaxation comprising in combination an acupuncture electrical activating means and music providing means.
Through the synergetic effect of the three techniques the effect is to provide a very powerful relaxing effect very quickly (in the space of a few minutes) which in turn has substantial value for the well being of the recipient. Such well being has been found to assist in many cases the whole body including resulting beneficial effects in the cerebrum, the nervous and blood circulatory system, the lymphatic system, the muscular tissues as well as the functioning of the internal organs.
By use of the nodes on other selected acupuncture points relief has been obtained in respect of snoring, drug dependency and reduction of pain.
For a better understanding of this invention it will now be described with reference to a preferred embodiment which shall now be described with the assistance of drawings accompanying this specification wherein:
FIG 1 is a drawing of a person using the method according to the embodiment;
FIG 2 is a side view of the head of a person to identify the location of one of the acupuncture points; and
FIG 3 is a front view of the head of a person to identify the location of a further one of the acupuncture points useful in the invention.
Now referring to the drawings there is shown a person 1 lying on a comfortable base 2.
Article 4 holds firstly a compact tape player with appropriate volume and tone controls to provide a source of music to earphones 5 which are located to feed sound directly into the ears of the person 1 at a volume which is at low level and in this case is kept to a volume such that it will not exceed 60db.
The choice of music is to be of a type which will provide for an implicit relaxation. Such music will vary for peoples from different cultures but baroque style music for those with a western cultural back has been found to be effective and appears to relax a specific part of the brain which seems then to allow for access to further parts of the brain by the other techniques. This is suspected as being the reason for the synergistic effect that has been discovered.
To achieve the relaxation effect, the person 1 is therefore provided with a very comfortable location for lying down and the article 4 is placed on the forehead just above the eyebrows and a positive electrode node 6 of the pair of wires is placed at the anmien acupoint which is shown at 7 in FIG 2. Next, a negative electrode node 8 of the pair of wires is place so as to be effectively electrically conducting at the yongbai acupoint 9 as shown in FIG 3.
It is useful to wet the area of a specific acupoint by wiping this with a wet towel prior to location of the relative node on the location.
When both nodes of the equipment are in place, the electric current is switched on and out-current and in-current are adjusted, which are chosen so that firstly, the volume of music is at a comfortable level. As the music is played, the electrical activation of the acupoints follows so that together the music and the electric current transmitted to the respective acupoints will begin to induce relaxation.
It is at this time then that the practice of Qigong will follow, which is to firstly inhale and exhale deeply seven times through the nostrils. This inhaling is to achieve a substantial expansion of the chest and as exhaling occurs, the chest likewise should deflate.
At the same time, both hands of the person should be located over the centre of the abdomen in the location of the navel, and if the person is a male, the right hand should be used to press on the navel while the left palm is used to press on the back of the right hand. In the case of a female, the reverse arrangement applies, that is, the left palm is used directly on the navel and the right palm is used to press on the back of the left hand. As inhaling occurs it is of advantage to concentrate on both hands and as one exhales, concentrate on relaxing the entire body.
This procedure is repeated seven times as stated before.
From then on, the music together with the electric current activating the acupoints should be maintained for approximately 10 to 20 minutes and the effect will be apparent to the person.
The acupuncture effect is achieved by electrical activation which uses, in accord with known techniques, a voltage at a frequency which is appropriate for the circumstances. This in this case is to use a frequency rate of between 5-15 milliseconds between successive positive voltages and having a peak voltage of between 20 to 40 volts on the positive side and 63 to 77 volts on the negative side in each case with reference to a common earth. The actual readings will alter with each application but in this example the frequency actually to be used is 10 millisecs, 30 volts on the positive side and 70 volts on the negative side.
This procedure can be usefully repeated from 1 to 2 times daily and the results have been very beneficial. One alteration to the method which does not change the result is to have the patient sitting rather than lying down.
Examples of persons who have received benefit will now be given.
Person A was a male of medium weight and of 45 years age and has had high blood pressure for over 10 years. The patient suffered constant headache, dizziness and nervousness, insomnolence and dreaminess at night, a lack of strength in his limbs with blood pressure at 200/120 millimetres Hg and a heartbeat at a minimum average rate of 80 to 90 beats per minute.
Person A was subjected to the method described for 2 sessions a day over a period of 20 days.
The positive electrode was applied to the anmien point and a negative electrode was applied to yongbai point and the voltage was 60 volts and the frequency rate 100 HZ.
Music having an average loudness of 50 dB was provided through earphones located within the respective ear channels and the music itself was chosen using a style of music identified as "Ancient Chinese Zheng".
At the same time, the patient was instructed and indeed did at the commencement of the operation commenced deep and slow breathing and in accordance with the above instructions applied respective hands to provide substantial abdominal pressure over the navel.
This procedure was continued for 20 minutes for each session, one session in the morning and one in the evening.
The patient at the end of this 20 days treatment had a reduced blood pressure reading of 150/90 millimetres HG, a heartbeat rate of 80 to 90 times per minute, but with a removal of the nervousness, strengthlessness of the limbs, insomnolence and dreaminess at night. Also, the headache and dizziness previously experienced had disappeared.
A second example is patient Mr Tan who has experienced high blood pressure and heart ailments for 20 years. His heart rate was irregular and his average minimum heartbeat rate was between 90 to 120 beats per minute. The patient suffered nervousness and snoring at night with blood pressure at 200/100 millimetres HG.
The method in accordance with this invention was used for a period of three months that is both a session in the morning and a session in the evening for 20 minutes and after 3 months of consistent use of the method, the blood pressure was down to 150/90 millimetres HG, the heartbeat was reduced to an average of a minimum of 80 to 90 times per minute, nervousness had disappeared and snoring had been eradicated.
A next example was Madam Liu who suffered from soreness of the waist and legs for 5 years.
Madam Liu felt numbness in her limbs and was unable to walk comfortably. Also she suffered a constant headache and amnesia. She also suffered from a nervousness. After using the method as discussed above, once again twice
a day for sessions in each day of 20 minutes, for a period continuously of 40 days, Madam Liu lost the numbness in her limbs and was able to walk comfortably, she no longer suffered headache or amnesia and had lost the nervousness effect.
These three examples illustrate in a powerful way the effectiveness of the method described.
