Definitions
- the present invention relates to a disposable safety device for transferring blood contained in a container.
- Such devices are intended in particular to transfer blood between the sampling segments of a blood bag and a vacuum or ordinary tube, or to deposit calibrated drops on an analysis slide, or supports commonly called BEDSIDE TEST (trade name). Furthermore, the present invention also makes it possible to transfer calibrated drops of blood originating from a vacuum tube onto an analysis slide or a Bedside Test (trade name).
- the blood bags universally used in blood transfusion are extended by "segments", plastic tubes containing the same blood as the bag, and used to sample (for blood tests) without reopening the bag.
- Another problem concerns the deposit of a drop only on an analysis slide or a BEDSIDE TEST type test. It is not easy to form a clean and calibrated drop with a segment cut with scissors or pierced with a needle normally intended for another use.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a device having great security for the user, in particular avoiding any risk of contamination.
- the device in its most general embodiment consists of a hollow body having a transverse median partition crossed by a beveled needle at one of its ends.
- This hollow body has, on the side of the beveled end of the needle, a tubular segment with a section smaller than the section of a finger, and a length determined so as to prevent the user's finger from reaching the beveled end of the needle.
- the tubular segment has substantially radial internal fins, for refocusing the segment (the fins direct the end of the segment on the bevel of the needle).
- the hollow body has, on the side opposite the beveled needle end, a second tubular segment of diameter greater than the section of the opposite segment, the non-beveled end of the needle opening into said second tubular segment.
- This variant corresponds to a multi-purpose device allowing the transfer of a drop of blood from a blood bag or a vacuum tube to an analysis slide or a BEDSIDE TEST, as well as the transfer of blood between a pocket segment and a vacuum tube.
- the second tubular segment has a sleeve surrounding the base of the needle, said sleeve serving to press on the flexible part of the caps of all the models of vacuum tubes.
- the invention makes it possible to transfer blood from a blood bag segment into ordinary tubes with an outside diameter of 10 and 12 mm.
- the wide part of the part (non-bevelled side of the needle) is provided with internal centering fins, a 10 mm tube (glass or plastic) and substantially radial fins for centering a 12mm tube.
- tubular segments at least has a non-planar front end.
- FIG. 1 shows the device in a first mode of use
- - Figure 2 shows a view along a median sectional plane of the device
- - Figure 2bis shows a simplified variant of a median section plane of the device
- FIG. 3 shows a view along a transverse sectional plane AA 'of the device
- FIG. 4 shows the device in a second mode of use
- FIG. 5 shows the device in a third mode of use
- FIG. 1 represents an example of an embodiment in a first use consisting in taking from a blood bag segment (1) a drop of blood (2) to be deposited on an analysis slide (3).
- the device of which FIGS. 2 and 3 represent views in longitudinal and transverse sections, respectively, consists of a hollow body (4) of transparent plastic, having a first tubular element (5) and a second tubular element (6) separated by a middle partition.
- the segment of the blood bag is pierced by a needle (8) having a beveled end (9).
- a drop of blood is beaded which comes to deposit on the blade (3), at a location located inside the circle defined by the end. front (11) of the tubular element (6).
- the tubular element (5) surrounding the beveled end (9) of the needle (8) has an internal section corresponding substantially to the external diameter of the blood bag segments.
- the length of this tubular element (5) is determined so that it forms a protective sleeve extending beyond the beveled end (9) of the needle (8), in order to avoid that the user's finger does not accidentally come to be injured on the needle.
- the part of the needle extending inside the tubular element (5) is approximately 15 millimeters, while the length of the tubular element (5) is about 30 millimeters.
- the inner wall of the tubular element (5) has radial fins (12, 13) ensuring the centering of the blood bag.
- the device On the opposite side, the device has a tubular element (6) surrounding the second part (14) of the needle ending in an end (15) which is not bevelled.
- the needle is surrounded at the base of this second part by a support sleeve (16) whose outer section is less than the flexible part of the caps of all models of vacuum tubes.
- This sleeve has radial fins (17, 18) ensuring centering by pressing on the inside wall of the neck of tubes of small section (with an outside diameter of 10 mm).
- the tubular element (6) also has radial fins (19, 20) ensuring centering by pressing on the external wall of the neck of tube of large section (with external diameter 12mm).
- Figure 4 shows the use of the device for transferring a drop of blood from a vacuum tube (21) to an analysis slide (3), a BEDSIDE TEST, or any plane.
- the vacuum tube (21) is pressed into the tubular element (6) and the non-bevelled end of the needle (8) passes through the plug.
- the flexible part of the tube plug under vacuum comes into contact with the support sleeve (16), which has the effect of increasing the pressure inside the vacuum tube (21) until a drop of blood (22) is beaded.
- the pressure returns to normal, and a possible excess of blood will be drawn inside the vacuum tube (21), which guarantees perfect hygiene of the device.
- FIG. 5 represents another use of the device according to the invention, for transferring the blood contained in a blood bag (1) into a test tube (23).
- the blood bag is first inserted into the tubular element (5) surrounding the beveled end (9) of the needle (8).
- a test tube (23) is then inserted into the opposite tubular element (6). When pressure is exerted on the walls of the segment of the blood bag (1), the blood is expelled towards the tube (23).
- FIG. 6 represents another use of the device according to the invention, for transferring the blood contained in a blood bag (1) into a vacuum tube (21).
- the blood bag is first inserted into the tubular element (5) surrounding the beveled end (9) of the needle (8).
- a vacuum tube (21) is then inserted into the opposite tubular element (6). The vacuum ensures the aspiration of blood from the blood bag (1) to the vacuum tube (21).
