Abstract

This invention is a non-seal implanted rotary blood pump including a number of features which improve its performance over the prior art. Such features include a fully floating shaft on magnetic bearings (2) to avoid thrombus formation; a split blood flow path allowing for improved motor efficiency; a non-brush motor (1) operating in the left ventricle independently from the pump impeller; an axial/radial flow impeller (5) coaxially mounted with the motor, and operating within a portion of the housing placed outside the heart; and means for imparting pulsation to the output of a rotary pump.
