Description
APPARATUS FOR EXERCISING THE ABDOMEN AND THE LOWER LIMBS
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention refers to a rowing and straigthening apparatus for body building up, destined for building up some groups of muscles and namely: the big dorsal (Latissimus dorsi], lower back muscles fjumbars] and back deltoids in particular and secondarily the Gluteus and Biceps femoris muscles. BACKROUND OF THE INVENTION
To prevent the affections of the spine or those due to an incorrect posture ar. rest or when walking, the musculature of the back shall be strong.
In the upkeeping gymnastics, but more particularly in the performance body building up, it is important to carry out a movement by which only a single group c muscles is exercised, without major involvement of the other muscles, since a better and more rapid building up of said group of muscles is thus obtained.
Thus, discussing about the building up the musculature of the back, the mair movements are the "back straightening" and "rowing movement" the tractions. There are known apparata such as "Hammer" and "Helcometer", where tugging is performed with only one or both arms to bring a handle in the proximity of the body. and to lower a horizontal bar to the neck level, respectively. In both cases the weights are tugged by the arms, thereafter, by relaxing the musculature of the arms, the weights come back again to the initial position. A first disadvantage of these appparata consists in that, during this actior there are involved other groups of muscles such as : biceps, triceps and the forearm because these movements are performed by the arms.
Another disadvantage of these apparata consists in the fact that, though ,z is intended to work with a certain group of muscles - the dorsal, lumbar and bacx. deltoid - other groups of muscles are uselessly stressed. THE OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The problem solved by the invention is that of providing a rowing anc straightening apparatus for body building up, which shall let only one group cτ muscles act: the dorsal, the lumbar and the back deltoid - by means of some supports for the arms and a support for the feet, a bar sustaining tared discs.
The rawing and straightening apparatus for body building up, according to the invention obviates the above mentioned disadvantages in that it is provided with a metallic support equipped with a longitudinal member and a transverse member forming one piece with each other, a support for the feet, a handle rod and a weight stacking bar being subassemblies attached to the metallic support having one degree of freedom. A vertical member having articulated thereto a movable element of the weight stacking bar, on which tared discs can be stacked, and some supports for the arms are fastened to the transverse member.
The metallic support is provided with a sustaining member making one piece with a bushing wherein the handle rod is guided. The support for the feet is provided with a frame made up of horizontal side members and guiding rods along which there can slide a supporting grid made up of sliding tubes linked by transversal ars. The supports for the arms are provided with horizontal members making one piece with a guiding ring through which the handle rod can be guided and a vertical handle, respectively. The weight stacking bar is articulated by means of an axle and a radial bearing to the vertical members of the metallic support, being provided with an actuating element and a rod for the weights.
By the application of the invention, there is obtained the increase of the rate of building up of some groups of muscles and the protection of the other groups. SPECIFICATION OF THE DRAWINGS
There is given hereinafter an embodiment of the invention in connection with fig. 1 and 2, which represent:
- fig.1 , left side view.in perspective, of the rowing and straightening apparatus for body building up; - fig.2, right side view, in perspective, of the rowing and straightening apparatus for body building up. DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
The rowing and straightening appatus for body building up according to the invention consists of a metallic support A, by which it stands on the floor and a support for the feet B, a handle rod C and a weight stacking bar D, subassemblies that are fastened to the metallic support A but have a single degree of freedom.
The metallic support A consists of a longitudinal member 1 , to an end of which there are welded a transverse member 2, the supporting members 3, 4 and
a sustaining member 5. The free ends of the members 1 , 2, 3, 4 and 5 are provided to the lower side with seating plates 6.
On the transverse member 2 there are fastened a vertical member 7 and two supports for the arms E and F. The supports for the arms consist of vertical members 8 and 9, similar to the vertical member 7, and thereto, the horizontal members 10 and 1 1 for supporting the forearms and the limit plates 12 and 13 for preventing the displacement of the user's forearms are welded at an adequate elevation.
The horizontal member 10 is provided to the free end with a guiding ring 14, wherein there can rotate the handle rod C guided to the lower side in a bushing 15 welded to the sustaining member 5, the handle rod 5 being equipped with limiting wedges 16, 17 and 18. On the free end of the horizontal member 1 1 , a vertical handle 19 is welded.
The upper ends of the vertical members 8 and 9 make one piece with an axle 2D, the radial bearing 21 of the weight stacking bar D rotating thereabout. The weight stacking bar consists of a movable member 22, making one piece with the radial bearing 21 and an actuating element 23 which can be displaced along the movable member 22 and makes one piece with a weight stacking rod 24 for stacking the tared discs. The support for the feet B is located at the free end of the longitudinal member 1 and, being movable along said member, can be indexed in the desired position.
The support for the feet B consists of the supporting legs 26 and 27, whereon there is welded a frame consisting of horizontal side members 28 and 29 and the guiding rods 30 and 31 . Along the guiding rods 3D and 31 , a support grid G can slide by means of the slide tubes 32 and 33. These are linked by the transversal bars 34 and 35 destined for supporting the user's heels. Reverting to the handle rod C, it must be mentioned that the limiting wedges 16, 17 and 18 help to sustaining the movable member 22 to various inclinations, when the apparatus according to the invetion is not used.
The person who uses the apparatus according to the invention enters between the two supports for the arms E and F, facing to the weight stacking rod D, gets down flexing his knees and bears his forearms on the horizontal members
10 and 1 1. It is intended that the user's arms contact the upper side of the vertical members 8, 9 and his hands grasp the handle rod C and the vertical handle 19.
Then the user stretches his legs forward by placing the sole on the transverse bars 34 and 35. In this position, in which he stands sustained on the forearms and soles, and in order to increase the adherence to the apparatus, he grasps the handles C and 1 , the user straightens his body by contracting the dorsal muεclulature, thereafter rotates by 90° sexagesimal, irresspective of the sense, the handle rod C. By this rotation the limiting wedges 16, 17 and 18 come out of the oscillation radius of the movable member 22, said member having a displacement corresponding to the amplitude given by the user.
In this movement performed by the contraction of the dorsal musculature, action defined as rowing and straightening, the user pushes upward with the abdomen the actuating element 23 which was loaded with the tared discs 25.
After this straightening movement, while the user's legs must be straight, he relaxes the muscles and his pelvis is pushed downward by the tared discs 25, while the legs and the back shall keep the straight position.
The movements are then resumed in the same succession by a convenient number of times, depending on the user's resistance, level of training, number of tared discs 25 and others.
