Abstract

The present invention relates to methods for checking the authenticity of various information carriers made of paper, polymer materials, etc., mainly cash money, lottery tickets or other similar and valuable documents or articles. The method for protecting information carriers against counterfeiting involves applying a verification mark that can be visualised by additional external action so as to produce an optical effect. The verification mark comprises at least one layer of a non-transparent thermal identification coating, wherein said coating comprises: a composition that includes a polymer matrix containing melaminformaldehyde and acrylic resins; and a thermo-sensitive substance of the cold-set ink type that contains 1-hexadecanol and 4-ethylphenol. The components are selected in the following amounts: from 0.5 to 0.7 wt. % of 1-hexadecanol; from 0.5 to 5.0 wt. % of and 4-ethylphenol; from 1.0 to 10.0 wt. % of melaminformaldehyde resin; from 1.5 to 15.0 wt. % of an amino-containing resin; from 40.0 to 60.0 wt. % of butanol; and from 20.0 to 40.0 wt. % of ethylacetate.
