Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the frame synchronisation between a mobile terminal (MS) and two base stations (BS, BSN) during handover. The invention also relates to a radio communications system for carrying out said method. The aim of the invention is to shorten the interruption time(s) of the communications connection (V3). The second base station (BSN) communicates a current frame number (RN) and/or the timing advance value to the mobile terminal after a signal (RA) has been sent by the mobile terminal via the channel for random access (RACH). The frame number is thus synchronised in such a way that the mobile station can switch to the new base station (BSN) without having to expend a lot of time searching for the frame number on the organisation channel (BCCH) of said base station and by interrupting the connection to the old base station (BS). The connection (V3) of the mobile station in the GSM network has to be briefly interrupted only once in order to be able to send the access request (RA). The mobile terminal in the new cell can immediately send data due to the fact that the timing advance value has already been received in the old cell.
