Description

LITIERE POUR ANIMAUX LITTER FOR ANIMALS
The present invention relates to a litter for animals, in particular domestic animals, such as cats and dogs, or for laboratories.
To date, there are many formulations of litter offered to users generally composed of an absorbent material to which different substances (virucides, odors ...) are added.
These formulations are not, however, free from defects; thus, the addition of an odorous substance only masks the, sometimes strong, odor of animal faeces and urine. In addition, such formulations do not pay sufficient attention to preserving the safety of users (in particular the owners of these animals and their families) and respect for the environment inside the premises where these faeces and urine are collected or outside when it comes to getting rid of used litter.
The litter which is the subject of the present invention does not have such defects but on the contrary is accompanied by advantages linked to its composition; it ensures both human and animal safety and respect for the environment.
With regard to the absorbent material, the applicant preferred not to use mineral substances: the latter are difficult to remove and moreover pollute the environment of the tanks in which the litters are placed; cats, for example, are in the habit of covering their excrement with part of the litter, thus projecting part of the latter out of the bin where it is located: it is then practically inevitable to walk on the granules thus ejected and to crush them , thus creating a dust sticking to the slippers or shoes of the users. These mineral substances, based on clay for example, are only weakly absorbent, and the liquids often form sludges with the very fine particles coming from these substances.
Ainsi selon l'invention, la substance absorbante sera-t-elle composée d'un produit à base de bois (cellulose-lignine).Thus according to the invention, the absorbent substance will it be composed of a wood-based product (cellulose-lignin).
Preferably, this product will have been dried beforehand (3OO-5O0 ° C for example), sieved and dusted.
The Applicant has found that the best particle size for this product is between 500 and 1100 μm approximately.
Such a particle size allows in particular an intimate mixture with disinfectant substances such as sodium perborate, the particle size of which will preferably be chosen to be close to that of the absorbent compound. The proportion between absorbent compound / disinfectant substance is provided so that a residual pH of the order of 9 is maintained after the hydrolysis of urine and faeces by the disinfectant substance; it has been noted that this hydrolysis takes place regularly, in particular due to the homogeneity of the mixture in terms of particle size. Advantageously, an aliphatic amide, such as Tetra Acetyl Ethylene Diamine (TAED), having a sanitizing role, will be added to the mixture.
La composition faisant l'objet de la présente invention, en raison de ses caractéristiques qualitatives et quantitatives, permet de maintenir le pH basique précité, ce qui présente les avantages suivants : inactivation, de façon irréversible, de la flore micro-organique (il a été testé que cette inactivation persistait 18-24 mois après utilisation de la litière) effet bactériostatiqueThe composition which is the subject of the present invention, due to its qualitative and quantitative characteristics, makes it possible to maintain the abovementioned basic pH, which has the following advantages: irreversible inactivation of the micro-organic flora (it has tested that this inactivation persisted 18-24 months after using the litter) bacteriostatic effect
- neutralisation de l'anaérobiose systématique habituelle, préservant ainsi l'environnement de toute incidence nosocomiale.- neutralization of the usual systematic anaerobiosis, thus preserving the environment from any nosocomial incidence.
Another advantage of the composition which is the subject of the present invention is that it avoids the caking phenomenon which is particularly troublesome in the case of traditional litters.
In addition, it will be particularly important to avoid "fines" or dust, in particular in the absorbent compound: the latter can indeed have numerous drawbacks; in domestic use, dust promotes the transmission of germs by aerosol (toxoplasmosis for example) while in the laboratory, this dust quickly clogs the filters of clean rooms where animals are gathered. Thus "infectious" and / or "infectious" transmission from animals to humans will be particularly reduced (which is not the case for traditional litter). The environment will also be preserved, the final mixture being easily incinerable, bio-degradable and compostable, which represents in terms of environment a decisive advantage over existing litter.
The safety of the litter which is the subject of the present invention is due in particular to the basic pH as has already been mentioned: up to the absorption capacity by the absorbent compound, the oxidation by sodium perborate ensures bactericidal efficiency certain, and beyond this absorption capacity, the residual salinity of pH 9 will offer a bacteriostatic guarantee.
The complement is provided by TAED, these various percentages being given by weight of the mixture, and the preferred particle size having already been mentioned in the present description.
Also preferentially, the sawdust, previously treated as indicated, will come from spruce.
