TITLE OF THE INVENTION
A MAGNIFICATION MEASURING CUP APPARATUS
This is a continuation in part application based upon the original U.S. application
serial number 09/493,173 filed on 28 January 2000 and currently pending.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention pertains to bottles and boxes of all types and, in particular, to a
magnification measuring cup apparatus that would allow individuals to read the instructions or information on the side of the bottle or package insuring that the individual using the items in
the bottles will be used properly.
There is a growing problem with the misreading of labels, especially as the
population ages. There is a growing problem with people not taking their medicines properly.
At the same time, more and more people need to use glasses in order to read properly. One of
the problems with medications and drugs is that the instructions on the bottles are often too small
to be easily read. What is needed is a device that would provide magnification in order to aide the user's of the medication to read the instructions on the bottle. It is also necessary to have the
magnification in close proximity to the bottle itself when it is to be used in order to have it be a
viable device.
What is needed is a magnification measuring cup apparatus that is accessible to the user and would provide an easy means for medicine bottle dosage dispensing without
requiring the individual to carry a separate device. It is an object of this invention to provide an
apparatus that will be particularly helpful for seniors or those who have vision problems who find themselves in need of understanding printed instructions.
It is the object of this invention to teach a magnification measurement cup apparatus which avoids the disadvantages and limitations, recited above in other magnification
systems. Another object of this invention is to provide an apparatus that is inexpensive to
manufacture, that can be easily used and set up by the manufacturer of the packaging, and that at the same time, is accurate and highly effective.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Particularly, it is the object of this invention to teach a magnification measuring
cup apparatus, for use by individuals in order to provide a device for reading information and
instructions on medicine bottles and the like in order to prevent accidents caused by improper
use of medicines, drugs or the like, comprising a cup for the top of a bottle; said cup having magnification means positioned within the base of said measuring cup in order to provide the
user ease of reading the information on said bottle; and said cup and said magnification means comprise an integral unit.
It is also the object of this invention to teach a magnification measuring cup
apparatus, for use by individuals in order to provide a device for reading information and
instructions on any bottle in order to prevent accidents caused by improper following of instructions for use, comprising in combination first means comprising a measuring cup for
bottles, lids or boxes, and second means comprising magnification means positioned within the base of said cup in order to provide the user ease of reading the information on said bottle, and
said first means and said second means comprising an integral unit.
Additionally, it is the object of this invention to teach a method of providing a magnification measuring cup, for use by individuals in order to provide a device for reading information and instructions on bottles in order to prevent accidents caused by improper use of
medicines, drugs, detergents or any other product requiring instructions for use, comprising the
steps of providing a measuring cup for a medicine bottle; providing magnification means
positioned within the base of said measuring cup; and providing means for replaceably attaching said measuring cup and magnification means to the top of a medicine bottle. And finally, it is
the object of this invention to teach a method of providing a magnification measuring cup, for
use by individuals in order to provide a device for reading information and instructions on bottles
in order to prevent accidents caused by improper use of medicines, drugs, detergents or any other
product requiring instructions for use, comprising the steps of providing a measuring cup for a medicine bottle; providing magnification means positioned within the base of said measuring
cup; and providing said measuring cup as an independently packaged unit with bottles and boxes
for any products that require instruction or measurement.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The invention is described in conjunction with the following figures, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the novel magnification measuring cup
apparatus;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof of the snap on embodiment of the magnification measuring cup apparatus;
Figure 3 is a side elevational view thereof of the threaded embodiment of the
magnification measuring cup apparatus; and
Figure 4 is a block diagram showing the novel method of producing a
magnification measurement cup.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
As shown in the figures, the novel magnification measuring cup apparatus 10
comprises a measuring cup 11 that can be positioned on the top of a bottle (not shown) that holds
medicine or the like or can be attached to the top of a bottle or can be placed within a package
for measurement purposes. The base 12 of the measuring cup 11 is comprised of a magnification
lens 13 in order to provide a reading lens for the user or patient of the medicine in the bottle in
order to allow the user or patient to properly read and understand the instructions on the bottle
or the package. The coloring of the magnification measurement cup apparatus will minimize any problem with lighting affecting the contents of the bottle. There are a number of different ways of accomplishing the attachment of a magnification measuring cup to bottles. The magnification
measuring cup can simply be placed over the top of the bottle. It can also be in the form of a
snap on cap 14 as shown in Figure 2, or can be threaded on unit 15 that is shown in Figure 3.
The magnification measurement cup 10 can be made of a plastic and create a magnification
apparatus on the base of the cup or as a separate unit.
The novel method of producing a magnification measuring cup apparatus 20
comprises the steps of providing a covering cup for a medicine bottle 21; providing
magnification means in the base of the covering cup 22; and providing means for replaceably
attaching said covering cup to the top of a bottle 23. The apparatus can also be designed as a separate unit.
In operation, there are a number of applications for the magnification measurement cup apparatus. The user will open the bottle of medication, vitamins, food or other products that require proper consumption and then manually focus the lens on the instruction in
order to read the proper dosage of the substance for his or her circumstances. Light sensitive
drugs would require a magnification apparatus for packages that would be color coded so as to
avoid any problem with light sensitivity. The magnification measuring cup can also be
positioned within a package and still be used to measure product and also for magnification
purposes.
While I have described my invention in connection with specific embodiments thereof, it is clearly to be understood that this is done only by way of example and not as a limitation to the scope of my invention as set forth in the objects thereof and in the appended claims.
