Abstract
The invention relates to an ink-jet printer, especially for labeling articles for dispatch, comprising a print head (52) with a plurality of nozzles (66a, 66b, 66c) adapted to eject ink, said print head having a stationary print position for printing. The printer further comprises a service device (58, 60) for carrying out at least one service function. The print head is designed to be laterally (A) displaced along a guide (54) with respect to the print direction (B) so that the print head with its nozzles can be moved into the print position and out of the print position and with its service device laterally into a service position that is different from the print position. The invention further relates to a corresponding method.
