Description

Network interface for access to or control of objects
INTERFACE
Technical field
The present invention relates to an interface between a number of among themselves different participaats and different objects, where said objects are owned or controlled by one owner.
The present invention also relates to a computer program product by which a method according to the invention can be executed, and a by computer readable medium on which computer program code according to the computer program product is stored.
Prior art It is previously known that objects in, for instance, a home, or in an office/working place, can be controlled via an external network.
For instance, it is possible to switch on and switch off lamps by these being connected to switches which can be remote-controlled by telephone signals via a telecommunication network.
It is also known to remote-control alarms, locks and for instance the functions of a telephone answering machine in similar way. New technology will introduce so called smart equipment by which it will be possible to communicate in different ways. Electricity meters which indicate how much power that has been consumed, refrigerators which indicate the amount of food being stored, electric ovens which can be controlled in order to start the heating of food at a certain point of time, etc.
The need to offer a possibility to communicate with these pieces of equipment from an external network is increasing. It can be desirable to let a service provider, such as a food store, have access to the information my refrigerator can provide about which food that is, or is not, in my refrigerator, and on basis of this let the food store deliver food to the home.
Description of the present invention
Technical problems
Considering the prior art as it has been described above, and with starting point from an interface, a computer program product and a by computer readable medium as above, it is a technical problem to create a general interface between an infrastructure of objects and different services.
It is a technical problem to provide different participants with access to, or control over, different objects belonging to one owner in one for the owner satisfying and secure way.
It is also a technical problem to, in a simple way, adapt an interface to different participants and their access to different objects.
The sol ution
With the intention to offer a solution to the above described problems, the present invention is based on a number of among themselves different participants and different objects, which objects are owned or controlled by one owner.
The present invention especially directs that the objects are accessible to, or can be controlled by, the participants via one or more networks. The interface offers the possibility to find out the position of, and provide access to, or control, respective object.
In order to make this possible in one for the owner of the objects satisfying and secure way, the present invention directs that the access or control is provided according to an agreement between the owner and respective participant . The present invention is especially suited for objects which are located within a limited space, such as within a home or an office/working place.
With the intention to offer a possibility to adapt the interface to different participants and their access to the objects, the present invention directs that necessary computer program code to provide access to, or control of, an object can be transmitted from a participant to the space via the interface. Further, this computer program code can be installed for use within the space via the interface, all according to the agreement which exists between owner and participant.
The participant in question can, for instance, be a service provider, where one or more objects consists of objects to which, or by which, the service provider can offer one or more services, or a user, where one or more of the objects consists of objects which the user wants to use or control.
The interface is best functioning by a computer unit operating in connection to the objects.
The present invention is especially useful when used network consists of the global network Internet.
Advan tages The advantages which principally can be associated with an interface, a computer program product, or a by computer readable medium according to the present invention, is that by this a number of objects can be made accessible under the owner's control, by which services can be provided, or objects can be controlled.
Consequently an object can, by a participant, be experienced as if it were accessible out on the network according to agreement with the owner of the object. An interface according to the present invention consequently constitutes a general interface between individual objects in, for instance, a home and participants on, for instance, the global network Internet.
Brief description of figures An interface, a computer program product and a by computer readable medium, showing the with the present invention associated characteristics now shall, for the purpose of exemplification, be described in detail with reference to enclosed drawing, where: Figure 1 schematically and very simplified shows an embodiment of the present invention.
Description of now preferred embodiments With reference to Figure 1 is thus illustrated an interface A between a number of among themselves different participants 1,2,3 and different objects, 4,5,6, which objects 4,5,6 are owned or controlled by one owner 7.
In the figure both objects and participants are only schematically shown, and it should be understood that it within the idea of invention can exist both participants and objects of quite different kind. The objects can, for instance, be alarm devices, electric lighting, kitchen equipment, computers, printers, TV-sets, music installations, and other things which may be of interest to control, or be given access to.
A provider of film or music can, for instance, provide a home with his/her product according to the present invention in a very simple and efficient way. In the same way the owner of the objects can, for instance, himself/ herself control the electric lighting in the home, or the alarm center, by the present invention. Consequently, the following description constitutes a general description of the idea of invention, and this also will include 'some exemplifying embodiments. The present invention especially directs that the objects 4,5,6 are accessible to, or can be controlled by, a participant 1,2,3 via one or more networks 8.
The interface A offers the possibility to find out the position of, and provide access to, or control respective object. Accordingly respective object shall in some way be connected to the interface. The interface A is realized by a computer unit 9 and the actual connection to the interface is made via this computer unit. Consequently a switch 6a to an electric lighting 6 can be connected to the computer unit 9 and by that also to the interface A.
The present invention further directs that the access to, or the control of, an object 4,5,6 is only provided according to an agreement between the owner 7 and respective participant 1,2,3, which means that the interface A also functions as a firewall against unauthorized access to the objects 4,5,6.
The objects 4,5,6 are located within a limited space B, such as within a home or an office/working place. By this is meant that the interface A controls the accessibility of a limited number of objects 4,5,6 which are connected to the interface. An object consequently can be physically outside a building, such as an irrigation system in a garden, but yet be included in what here is called a limited space B.
Since the present invention relates to a large number of different combinations of participants 1,2,3 and objects 4,5,6, it is difficult to foresee which kind of combinations that can be met with. The present invention consequently directs that the interface A shall be possible to adapt to different situations by necessary computer program code A1,A2,A3 for access to, or control of, an object, being possible to transmit from a participant 1,2,3 to space B via the interface, and being installed for use within the space B via the interface A. This computer program code can, for instance, be transmitted as plug-in modules to the computer unit 9, which can be self- installing or which are installed by the owner 7.
Also this must be done according to the agreement between the owner 7 and the participant 1,2,3. This agreement also can include a subscription to a service, which is valid as long as the participant receives payment from the owner.
According to one suggested embodiment of the present invention, a participant 1 is a service provider. In this case one or more objects 4 can consist of objects to which, or by which, the service provider can offer one or more services .
If, for instance, the participant 1 is a provider of music, and the object 4 consists of a CD recorder/writer, the present invention can be applied by the music provider 1 being given access to the CD recorder/writer 4 via the interface A and provides music which the owner 7 has bought from the music provider 1 by controlling the CD recorder/writer 4 and transmit the music to it and by that record/write the music on a CD.
In this case the computer program code Al consists of a computer program code which, when it is executed by a computer unit 9, makes the computer unit control the CD recorder/writer 4, and, if necessary, provide the owner 7 with instructions about putting a writeable CD in the CD recorder/writer 4.
According to another embodiment of the present invention, the participant 2 can be a user, who might be the owner himself/herself, and that one or more of the objects 4,5,6 can be objects which the user 2 can use or control .
For instance should this user 2 be the owner 7 himself/herself who, in spite of not being at home, wants to switch on or off a lamp 6, or switch on the oven 5 to keep the food warm when he/she is coming home. The present invention is especially suitable when the network 8 by which the participant communicates consists of a public telecommunication network or the global network Internet. There is nothing to prevent from an interface A being adapted to cooperate with two different networks, or via two different protocols operating in the same physical network, such as telecommunication via normal telephone, wire-based or mobile, or, for instance, HTML via Internet.
The present invention also relates to a first computer program product 10, where the first computer program product includes a first computer program code which, when it is executed by a computer unit 9 makes this computer unit execute the functions of an interface A according to the invention.
Further, the present invention includes a by computer readable medium 11, on which computer program code according to the first computer program product 10 is stored.
The invention is of course not limited to the above as example shown embodiments but may be subject to modifications within the frame of the idea of invention illustrated in the following patent claims.
