Best mode for Carrying Out the Invention
A system and method for preparing a travel schedule in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a detailed structure diagram illustrating the system for preparing the travel schedule in accordance with the present invention.
Referring to Fig. 1, the system 10 for preparing the travel schedule includes a travel destination managing means 100, a schedule generating means 102, a schedule editing means 104, a user managing means 106 and a database 110. Here, the database 110 is composed of a travel theme DB 112, a regional travel destination DB 114, a travel destination information DB 116, a travel schedule DB 118, a user DB 120 and a weight list DB 122. Each of the databases can be formed as a single table or a plurality of tables.
The travel destination managing means 100 stores location information such as continents, countries and regions of travel destinations in the regional travel destination DB 114, and also stores points of the respective travel destinations according to travel themes (nature, romantic experience, educational, cultural, etc.), summaries of the travel destinations, required travel time, time limit conditions and information classified according to properties of the travel destinations in the travel destination information DB 116, and renews the database 110 when a new travel destination is added or information of the general travel destination is changed. At this time, the time limit conditions imply restricted travel time conditions for notifying users that, for example, travelers can visit a specific travel destination only in the morning (or afternoon or nighttime), or can visit the travel destination anytime. In addition, the information classified according to the properties of the travel destinations serves to prevent repetitive visits to similar places in the preparation of the travel schedule. Here, the respective travel destinations are classified according to their properties (museums, amusement parks, mountains, etc.).
The schedule generating means 102 judges how suitable the respective travel destinations are for the travel themes according to weights for the travel themes and the points of the travel destinations for the travel themes. Here, the weights for the travel themes are provided by considering importance of the travel themes when the users plan to travel. The user directly input the weights or selects one of the weight lists stored in the weight list DB 122 for allotting various weights to the travel themes in the travel destination information DB 116 of the system 10 for preparing the travel schedule. When the weights for the travel themes are allotted in advance and the weight lists are stored, suitability of the respective travel destinations for the travel themes, namely weight averages of the travel destinations for the travel themes, are preferably stored in the travel destination information DB 116.
The schedule generating means 102 decides regional weight averages according to the theme weight averages of the travel destinations and the weights for the travel themes, and prepares all possible unit schedules by using combinations of the travel destinations which belong to the respective regions with reference to the required travel time, the time limit conditions and the travel destination classification information of the travel destinations belonging to the corresponding regions. In addition, the schedule generating means 102 calculates unit schedule weight averages for all the unit schedules in consideration of the weights for the travel themes and the required time for the unit schedules.
The schedule generating means 102 also prepares all possible whole schedules in a total travel period by using combinations of the unit schedules, and then calculates whole schedule weight averages for the combined whole schedules according to the unit schedule weight averages and total travel period.
In one preferred embodiment of the invention, the user can select the travel region before generating the travel schedule. In this case, the theme weight averages of the travel destinations are calculated only for the travel destinations belonging to the region selected by the user. The unit schedules are prepared and weight averages are calculated on the basis of the theme weight averages, and the whole schedules and the whole schedule weight averages are calculated for the total travel period according to the unit schedules and weight averages.
When the user desires to change the travel schedule generated by the schedule generating means 102, the schedule editing means 104 enables the user to change the travel schedule. The user managing means 106 stores information of the users registered in the system 10 for preparing the travel schedule in the user DB 120, also stores travel schedule contents generated upon the user's request, and provides them to the user upon the user's request.
Figs. 2a and 2b show one example of a database format applied to the present invention. Fig. 2a shows a format of a geographical information database and Fig. 2b shows a format of a travel destination information database.
As illustrated in Fig. 2a, the location information of the travel destinations is subdivided from large groups to small groups (continent-country-region), and stored in a location information field 20. As depicted in Fig. 2b, the travel destination information database format includes a travel destination name field 22 showing a name of the corresponding travel destination, a theme point field 24 showing suitability of the corresponding travel destination for the travel themes, a required time field 26 showing a required time for traveling the travel destination, a time limit field 28 showing a specific visiting time of the travel destination, a theme weight average field 30 of the travel destination calculated with reference to the weight list DB 122 and the theme point field 24, a classification information field 32 classified according to the property (museum, amusement park, mountain, etc.) of the corresponding travel destination, and an introduction field 34 storing the origin of the travel destination, facility information and general user information.
Fig. 3 is a flowchart showing a method for preparing a travel schedule in the system for preparing the travel schedule in accordance with the present invention.
First of all, the travel theme weights ( Wim , l ≤m≤n, n = number of weight combinations, 1 < i t, t = number of travel themes) are set up. The user can directly input the travel theme weights, or select one of the plurality of weight lists previously set up and stored in the weight list DB 122 of the system 10 for preparing the travel schedule (S101). The
plurality of travel theme weights w» are represented by following formula 1 : <Formula 1>
Wu - W,M - Wln] w = w* - W* - wu
W& - W - W,
Then, the theme weight averages Apjm of the travel destinations are calculated
according to the travel theme weights w^ and the theme points ( Pli , 1 <j <r, r = number of travel destinations) of the travel destinations (SI 02). Here, the theme points P>1 of the travel destinations are represented by following formula 2: <Formula 2>
Figure imgf000010_0001
In addition, when an m-th weight combination is introduced to a j-th travel destination, the theme weight average Apjm of the j-th travel destination is represented by following formula 3 : <Formula 3>
A P PlιW1»i+ - + PΑWm+ - + PltW l
ι= l
The regional weight averages (A(Rx-y)jm, 1 ≤ x≤ d, d = number of regions, 1 < y ≤ p, p = number of travel destinations in x region) are calculated according to the theme weight averages of the travel destinations after calculating the theme weights of the respective travel destinations for the travel themes (SI 03). For example, when weights of the m-th combination are introduced to all the travel destinations of x region, the regional weight averages for the whole travel destinations of x region are represented by following formula 4 in consideration of the theme weight averages APJi(RXy) of x region, the required time Txy for traveling the respective travel destinations of x region, and the total time for traveling the whole travel destinations of x region:
<Formula 4>
Figure imgf000011_0001
When the regional weight averages are calculated by formula 4, the regions can be aligned in a proper order for the travel theme weights.
Thereafter, all the possible unit schedules are prepared by using combinations of the travel destinations of the respective regions, by referring to the required travel time of the travel destinations of the corresponding regions, the time limit conditions and the classification information of the travel destinations, and the unit schedule weight averages (AC;W, l ≤w≤k, k = number of unit schedule combinations) are calculated for all the unit schedules in consideration of the travel theme weights and the required time for the unit schedules (SI 04).
When the information of the respective travel destinations is formed as a database to prepare the unit schedules, as shown in Table 1, the required travel time of the travel destinations is represented by integer codes, the time limit conditions are represented by 3 bit codes, and the classification information of the travel destinations is represented by integer codes.
Figure imgf000011_0002
When it is presumed that the system prepares a one day schedule, it gives priority to the travel destinations having the time limit condition code of '001', and selects the travel destinations of 'Oil', '101' and ' 111' (first travel destinations). Thereafter, the system gives priority to the travel destinations having the time limit condition code of '010', and selects the travel destinations of 'Oil', '110' and '111' (second travel destinations). Here, the system selects the travel destinations to which the user can travel in a time obtained by subtracting the required time for visiting the first destinations from the total required time for the unit schedules with reference to the required travel time codes of the first travel destinations. At the same time, the system selects the second travel destinations which have different classification information codes from the first travel destinations with reference of the classification information codes of the first travel destinations.
That is, the system selects the first travel destinations with reference to the time limit conditions, and then selects the second travel destinations with reference to the time limit conditions in which the user can travel for a time obtained by subtracting the required time for visiting the first destinations from the total required time for the unit schedules with reference to the required travel time, and which have the classification information different from the first travel destinations.
The system calculates the unit schedule weight averages after preparing the unit schedules in the whole regions or a few regions having high regional weight averages. For example, when a number of all possible unit schedule combinations of x region is 'k', weights of an m-th combination are introduced. In regard to the theme weight averages (APjm(Rx)ws, 1 < s ≤ c, c = number of travel destinations in w-th unit schedule) of the respective travel destinations of an w-th unit schedule of x region, when it is presumed that the required time for visiting the travel destinations in the w-th unit schedule is Ds, the theme weight averages ACj„k(Rχ) for the w-th unit schedule of x region are represented by following formula 5:
<Formula 5>
M APføi Rx) wsDg
■™-^-'im *tx)
The whole schedules (1 ≤L≤ TL, TL = number of whole schedules) are prepared by combining all the unit schedules in the total travel period, after calculating the unit schedule weight averages of the respective regions. The whole schedule weight averages are calculated (S105).
For this, it is presumed that formula 5 using the m-th combination weights is ACmw (l ≤w≤k, k = number of unit schedule combinations), and that the theme weight averages for the respective unit schedules included in an L-th whole schedule (1 <q<Q, Q = number of unit schedules included in L-th whole schedule) are ACqm . In addition, it is presumed that the required time for the unit schedules included in the L-th whole schedule is LCq ;me. At this time, the theme weight averages ASm for the L-th whole schedule are represented by following formula 6:
<Formula 6>
Figure imgf000013_0001
When the theme weight averages for the whole schedules are calculated by formula 6, the system provides the travel schedule according to values of the whole schedule weight averages. Here, the system stores the unit schedules composing the whole schedule in order of decreasing unit schedule weight averages (SI 06). That is, the system provides the combinations having the highest weight average( whole schedule) among the unit schedule combinations. The system checks that the prepared travel schedule is suitable (S107).
Fig. 4 is a flowchart showing a method for providing a travel schedule in the system for preparing the travel schedule in accordance with the present invention. When the user accesses the system for preparing the travel schedule through a communication network such as the Internet by using a computer, or drives the system stored as a program in a recording medium such as a ROM BIOS of a portable terminal or a CD- ROM in a terminal of appropriate specifications, and requests the system to prepare the travel schedule, the user is asked to set up the travel theme weights (S201). Here, the computer implies general terminals which can access the system for preparing the travel schedule through a cable or radio communication network, such as a personal computer having a modem, a cellular phone and a PDA. In the case that the system for preparing the travel schedule is produced in a program type, it can be mounted on a KIOSK or a tablet PC. In addition, the user directly inputs the travel theme weights, or selects one of the theme weight lists stored in the weight list DB of the system. It is also possible to ask the user to select desired regional information during the step for setting up the theme weights.
The system for preparing the travel schedule generates the travel schedule on the basis of the travel theme weights and the points of the travel destinations for the travel themes (S202). The process of generating the travel schedule was explained with reference to Fig. 2.
Thereafter, the system for preparing the travel schedule displays the generated travel schedule on a monitor of the user (S203), and confirms whether the user is satisfied with the travel schedule (S204). When the user is satisfied with the travel schedule, the system for preparing the travel schedule outputs the resultant travel schedule (S205). If not, the system for preparing the travel schedule enables the user to edit the travel schedule (S206). The user edits the travel schedule, namely, changes an order of the travel schedule or replaces the travel destination by a new one.
When the user finishes editing the travel schedule, the system for preparing the travel schedule calculates the theme weight averages for the unit schedules and whole schedules, displays them. on the monitor (S207), and then returns to the step for confirming whether the user is satisfied with the travel schedule (S204).
In accordance with the present invention, the user can be provided with the optimal travel schedule suitable for the travel theme. Moreover, the user can prepare a systematic travel plan for a desired destination by adjusting the travel schedule of a wanted time.
As the present invention may be embodied in several forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof, it should also be understood that the above- described embodiment is not limited by any of the details of the foregoing description, unless otherwise specified, but rather should be construed broadly within its spirit and scope as defined in the appended claims, and therefore all changes and modifications that fall within the metes and bounds of the claims, or equivalences of such metes and bounds are therefore intended to be embraced by the appended claims.
As described above, the system for preparing the travel schedule subdivides the travel themes according to wanted travel themes, and enables the user to set up the travel theme weights, thereby preparing the optimal travel schedule suitable for the travel themes. In addition, since the information of the travel destinations is provided as a database, the user who intends to make the travel plan can search the travel information in a real time according to a presumed travel date, region and travel theme. Furthermore, the user can edit the travel schedule from the system for preparing the travel schedule according to his/her schedule. It is therefore possible to provide the user with a customized type travel schedule which can satisfy the tastes and demands of the user.
In addition, the system for preparing the travel schedule can be stored in the ROM BIOS of the portable terminal such as the PDA or produced as the CD-ROM. That is, the system for preparing the travel schedule can be produced on all possible recording media. When the system produced as various recording media is mounted on the KIOSK or tablet PC, the user can easily prepare the travel schedule in an offline state.
