Description

A 0 938 157.The present invention relates to electronic devices with a plate type antenna such as that described in EP-A 0 938 157.
It is already known, in particular from this document, a plate antenna which comprises a sheet made of an electrically insulating material, a radiating element made of an electrically conductive material placed on a first face of this sheet, the radiating element being shaped in open loop like the one described in EP-A 0 938 157 or even in multiple loops like the radiating element which is described and illustrated in US-A-4 443 805. This loop is substantially symmetrical with respect to a plane perpendicular to the sheet, the two ends of the ends of the open loop being located opposite one another and on either side of the plane of symmetry. The antenna also includes a feed line located on the second face of the sheet opposite to the first, the feed line having a shape substantially similar to that of the open loop, a first end of the feed line being located in the plane of symmetry at the point of the open loop located in the plane of symmetry, and means for connection to a processing circuit and an energy source.
This antenna can also advantageously include other components such as those mentioned and described in the documents referenced above.
This antenna is very interesting, because it has the advantage of being able to be miniaturized and therefore, if it is integrated into an electronic device, to contribute to the miniaturization of the electronic device itself, like a GPS type receiver, c that is to say a device for receiving signals transmitted by a satellite or the like, for example video signals or signals of frequencies up to twelve GHz. The present invention therefore aims to produce an electronic device comprising a plate antenna of the type described in one or the other of the two documents referenced before.
More specifically, the subject of the present invention is an electronic device with a plate antenna, comprising: a sheet of electrically insulating material, a radiating element of an electrically conductive material disposed on a first face of said sheet, said radiating element being shaped in at least one open loop substantially symmetrical with respect to a plane perpendicular to the sheet, both strands of ends of the open loop being located opposite one another and on either side of said plane of symmetry, a supply line located on the second face of said sheet opposite to the first, said supply line having a shape substantially similar to that of said open loop, a first end of said supply line being located in the plane of symmetry at the point of said open loop located in said plane of symmetry, an electronic circuit implanted on said sheet, said circuit having an input terminal, an output terminal and a ground terminal being mounted in series d in said supply line between its input terminal and its output terminal, a coaxial connector comprising a central electrode and a peripheral sheath, both electrically conductive and electrically isolated from each other, of the first connecting means electric for electrically connecting the central electrode to the first end of the supply line, and second electric connection means for electrically connecting the peripheral sheath to the earth terminal of the electronic circuit and to the radiating element.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the coaxial connector is mounted in cooperation on the radiating element, substantially at the point of the open loop located in the plane of symmetry, the first means of electrical connection being constituted by the fact that the central electrode passes through the sheet substantially perpendicular to said sheet, one of the ends of the electrode being mounted in conductive contact with the first end of the supply line, and the second electrical connection means being constituted by the fact that the peripheral sheath is mounted on the conductive contact of the radiating element and by an electrical conductor connecting the earth terminal of the electronic circuit to said radiating element.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the electrical conductor crosses the sheet passing through an orifice whose axis is substantially perpendicular to the sheet. According to another characteristic of the invention, the electronic circuit consists of at least one of the following circuits: amplifier, electronic GPS receiver, video signal receiver, video signal transmitter, video signal transmitter-receiver. Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear during the following description given with reference to the drawings annexed by way of illustration but in no way limitative, in which:
Figures 1 to 3 show three views of an embodiment of an electronic device according to the invention, Figure 1 showing a bottom view, Figure 2 showing a partially cutaway front view and Figure 3 representing a top view.
With reference to the three figures, the electronic device according to the invention comprises a sheet 1 of an electrically insulating material, a radiating element 2 of an electrically conductive material disposed on a first face 3 of the sheet, this radiating element 2 being shaped as at least one open loop substantially symmetrical with respect to a plane 6 perpendicular to the sheet, the two end strands 4, 5 of the open loop being located opposite one another and on either side of the plane of symmetry 6.
The apparatus further comprises a supply line 7 located on the second face 8 of the sheet opposite to the first 3, the supply line having a shape substantially similar to that of the open loop, a first end 9 of the supply line being located in the plane of symmetry 6 at the point 10 of the open loop located in this plane.
The open loop can have different shapes, but will advantageously have one of the following shapes: circular, rectangular. However, it is specified that the loop formed by the supply line 7 can have a length as shown in the figures, namely shorter than that which is formed the radiating element 2. The length of the supply line will be adapted to the type of wavelengths that the antenna will be intended to receive. Those skilled in the art will easily know how to adapt it to optimal reception, for example by means of a network analyzer or the like.
The apparatus further comprises an electronic circuit 11 located on the sheet 1, this circuit having at least one input terminal 12, an output terminal 13 and a terminal earth 14 being mounted in series, between its two input and output terminals, in the supply line 7 defined above.
According to a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention, the coaxial connector 15 is mounted in cooperation on the radiating element 2, substantially at point 10 of the open loop located in the plane of symmetry 6, which is the neutral point of the antenna part of the device.
Quant aux seconds moyens de liaison électrique 19, ils sont constitués par le fait que la gaine périphérique 17 est montée au contact conducteur et l'élément rayonnant 2 et par un conducteur électrique 21 reliant la borne de masseIn this case, the first electrical connection means 18 defined above advantageously consist of the fact that the central electrode 16 passes through the sheet 1 substantially perpendicular to this sheet, one of the ends of the electrode being mounted at the conductive contact of the first end 9 of the supply line 7. As for the second electrical connection means 19, they consist of the fact that the peripheral sheath 17 is mounted on the conductive contact and the radiating element 2 and by a conductor electric 21 connecting the ground terminal
14 du circuit électronique 11 à l'élément rayonnant 2.14 from the electronic circuit 11 to the radiating element 2.
In a preferred embodiment, this electrical conductor 21 passes through the sheet 1 by passing through an orifice 22 whose axis is substantially perpendicular to this sheet. It is apparent that the electronic device as described above can be more easily miniaturized by the fact that the electronic circuit is integrated on the same sheet as that which serves as a support for the antenna.
C'est ainsi un tel appareil électronique à antenne miniaturisée en plaque trouve des applications particulièrement avantageuses, notamment dans le cas où le circuit électronique 11 est constitué par l'un des circuits suivants : amplificateur du type préamplificateur, amplificateur différentiel, etc., récepteur électronique du typeThis is how such an electronic device with a miniature plate antenna finds particularly advantageous applications, in particular in the case where the electronic circuit 11 consists of one of the following circuits: amplifier of the preamplifier type, differential amplifier, etc., receiver type electronics
In a possible and advantageous embodiment, the electrically insulating material in which the sheet 1 is made is a substrate, for example of the epoxy glass type or the like.
In this case, the radiating element 2 and the supply line 7 can be easily obtained from the initially metallized substrate, from which a part of the metallic layer has been removed by any means such as acid, etc. to leave only the metal areas forming the radiating element and the supply line.
