Abstract

A fixation device (10) for use as an anchor on a bone site, and which comprises: a shank (11) having a core diameter, and provided with first and second ends (12, 13); an external screw thread (14) on the shank (11), located between the first and second ends; a socket (19) in the shank; and an aperture which is capable of receiving at least one strand of suture (30) which extends transversely from a first opening on the exterior of the shank, through the socket (19), to a second opening on the opposite side of the shank. There is also disclosed an insertion instrument (20) for use with the fixation device.
