Abstract

The invention relates to a system for training medical practitioners in the use of medical devices. A practitioner, unfamiliar to a new device, is allowed to practice with the device in a simulated clinical environment on a manikin (4). The system then compares the way in which the practitioner uses the device to a pre-defined standard by measuring responses made by sensors (2) embedded in the manikin and comparing them to certain allowable combinations of ranges of values. If the sensors (2) make their responses within certain permitted ranges, the use meets the standard and the practitioner is certified as being qualified to use the device. The practitioner is then monitored when using the device on a real patient (3). The system compares the way in which the practitioner uses the device to a predefined standard by measuring responses made by patient sensors (1) and comparing them to certain allowable combinations of ranges of values. If the monitored use meets the standard set by the system, the practitioner is deemed competent to practice on real patients.
