Abstract

A system for generating an in-use indication for a communications device, such as a mobile telephone, is provided. The system includes a handsfree attachment to the mobile telephone, such as an earpiece that has a microphone and an earphone that are connected to the mobile telephone by a cable. An indicator on the handsfree attachment generate an indication when the mobile telephone is in use. The indicator is placed on the mobile telephone at a suitable location, such as on the cable between the microphone and the mobile telephone, to provide an indication to persons in the vicinity of the user that the mobile telephone is in use, without creating a distraction to the user.
