また、 本発明は、 水の壁の大き さ = 降雨量という上記前提が正 しく ない場合が発生する という新たな知見に基づく ものである。 そ して、 本発明は、 降雨状況の変化に適切に追従できるワイパー制御 方法、 およびワイパー制御装置、 特に、 ト ンネル進入脱出時などに 降雨のウィ ン ドシール ドへの付着量が急激に変化した場合に、 降雨 状況の変化に適切に追従.できるワイパー制御方法、 およびワイパー 制御装置を提供する。
本発明者等の検証によ り以下のことが確認された。
例と して、 ある程度大きい粒径の雨が連続して降っている降雨状 況で、 車輛が時速 6 0 km 程度で ト ンネルを通過するケースを想定 する。 ト ンネルの前後は同程度の降雨状況であり 、 ト ンネル内は降 雨が遮断される。
トンネル進入前は一定の降雨状況下であるので、 ウイ ン ドシール ド上に付着する降雨を一定の検出感度で検出して一定の払拭頻度で 払拭を行う こ とが適切である。 次に、 ト ンネル内では降雨による雨 滴の検出はなく なるので、 原則と してワイパーの払拭は必要と され ない。 しかしながら、 前方を走行する車輛からの細かな卷上げ水が ウィ ン ドシール ドに付着し視界を悪化させるので、 このよ うな水滴 の付着を検出してワイパーの払拭を行う必要がある。
巻上げによる水滴の粒径おょぴ供給量は大き く ないので、 卷上げ によって視界が悪化するまでには一定の時間を要する。 他方では、 一般的に、 レイ ンセンサの検知面積はゥィ ン ドシールド全面に比し て非常に小さいので、 小さい検知面に付着した雨滴に基づいてウイ ン ドシールド全体の状態を推定している。 したがって、 検知面への 卷上げによる水滴の付着に対して高い払拭頻度で払拭を行う と、 ゥ イ ン ドシール ド上の視界が悪化する前に無用な払拭が頻発し煩わし く なる。 した.がって、 トンネル内においては、 巻上げの付着に対し て反応しつつも、 払拭頻度をある程度低く抑える必要がある。
次に、 ト ンネル脱出後には進入前とほぼ同様の降雨状況下である ので、 ト ンネル進入前と同程度の検出感度かつ同程度の払拭頻度が 必要である と も考えられる。 しかしながら、 一般的な ドライパーの 感覚と しては、 環境の急変時、 特に環境が急激に悪化する場合には、 安全を確保したいという欲求が支配的となる。 特に、 トンネルのよ う に降雨の遮断状態が一定時間継続する状況においては、 ドライバ 一の感覚が降雨のない良好な視界に慣れてしま うため、 ト ンネル脱 出時の環境の変化がよ り急激なものと して感じられる傾向がある。
したがって、 視界が良好な状態から雨中に飛び込む ト ンネル脱出 時においては、 視界の急激な悪化に対して迅速に払拭を行いたいと 望むケースが多い。 このよ う なこ とから、 たとえ ト ンネル前後の ^ 雨量が同一であっても、 トンネル脱出時にはよ り高い検出感度、 よ り高頻度の払拭が望まれる。 なお、 ト ンネル脱出時であっても雨量 が小さい場合には、 視界が悪化するまでに時間がかかるので、 それ ほど高い検出感度おょぴ払拭頻度は必要と されない。
このよ うな考察に基づいて、 本発明者等は、 ト ンネル内において は、 巻上げ水に対する払拭頻度を低く抑える と同時に、 ト ンネル脱 出時に備えるこ とが必要である との知見を得た。 つま り 、 卷上げの よ う な細かな水滴に対しては反応しつつも払拭頻度を抑え、 払拭間 欠時間をよ り長くする と同時に、 大きい粒径の雨滴に対してはよ り 迅速に反応しつつ払拭頻度を高くすると よい。 次に、 他の例と して、 上記の例と同様の降雨状況において、 今度 は時速 1 0 O km 程度の高速で ト ンネルを通過するケースを想定す る。
高速走行時には風圧が大き く な り 、 ウィ ン ドシール ドに付着した 雨滴が一瞬にして広がり、 水膜になる現象が観察される。 ウィ ン ド シール ドからの反射光を受光して雨滴を検出する レイ ンセンサにお いては、 検知面にいったん水膜が発生すると、 続いて付着した雨滴 が水膜に吸収されてしま うので、 雨滴の付着による受光光量の変化 すなわち受光素子出力の変化が極端に小さ く なる。
したがって、 たとえ大雨の降雨状況であっても、 雨滴の付着が検 出しにく い状態となる。 その一方で、 大雨の場合には急速に視界が 悪化するので、 雨滴の付着を短時間で検出してワイパーの払拭を行 う必要がある。
これは ト ンネルの出口においても当てはまる。 つま り 、 降雨のな い トンネル内から大雨の雨中に車輛が高速で飛び出す場合.、 急激に 視界が悪く なる。 しかしながら、 ウィ ン ドシール ドに付着した雨滴 が走行風の影響で一瞬にして水膜を形成するために、 後続の雨滴の 付着による受光素子出力の変化が微小なものとなる。
したがって、 高速走行時、 特に高速で ト ンネルを脱出する時に雨 滴の付着を検出するためには、 受光素子出力の微小な変化を捉えら れるよ うに、 検出感度を高くすることが望ましい。
一方で、 このよ うな高い検出感度は、 他の走行シーンにおいて不 具合を生じるこ とがある。 例えば、 高い検出感度のままで低速走行 を行った場合には、 感度が高く なり過ぎでしまい無用な払拭が頻発 する という結果が得られた。 このよ う な考察に基づいて、 本発明者 等は、 車輛の走行速度に応じて検出感度を変化させるこ とが好ま し いとの知見を得た。 特に、 走行速度に比例して検出感度を上げるこ とが好ましい。
次に、 高速走行時の受光素子出力に関して以下の考察が得られた。 図 2は、 高速走行時における受光素子の出力信号の波形モデルを示 す図である。
まず、 受光素子の出力信号においては、 一般的に 、 ヮィパープレ 一 ドが検知面を通過する時の信号変化は非常に大きい -のため、 ワイパーブレー ド通過時 (ワイパー駆動区間) は、 信号をマス ク し て検出対象から外している。 すなわち、 図 2に示すマスク区間内に おいては、 雨滴の検出が行われていない。
园 2において、 D 1 , D 2 , D 3で雨滴が付着している 最初の 付着 D 1 の際に受光素子出力信号に変化が現れている M走行時 には、 D 1 の直後に水膜が形成されるので、 次の付着 D 2では信号 変化が微小になっている。 このよ う に、 水膜が形成された後におい ては雨滴の付着が検出しにく く なる。
一方、 マス ク区間内の付着 D 3の際に受光素子出力信号に大きな 変化が現れてい Ό これは、 検知面上に形成された水膜がワイパー ブレー ドの通過によつて除去されるためである。 し力 しながら、 D
3の直後に水膜が形成され、 マスク区間の終了後には再ぴ付着が検 出しにく い状態となつている。 このよ う に 、 たとえマスク区間内で 信号の変化が大さ く現われたと しても、 従来の検出方法では、 マス ク区間が検出対象から外されているため 、 D 1以後の雨滴の付着を 検出するのが困難となる。
このよ うな考察に基づいて、 本発明者等は 、 高速走行時において はマスク区間内の信号変化を検出対象と して雨滴の付着を検出する こ とによ り 、 検出精度を向上させるこ とができるとの知見を得た。 特に、 ヮィパーブレ一 ドが検知面を通過した直後の信号変化を対象 とすることが好ましい。
よ り好ま しく は、 マス ク区間内の受光ン、子出力信号の運動量に基 づいて、 雨滴の付着を検出するよ う にする と よい。 このよ う にする こ とによ り 、 ヮィパ一ブレー ドの通過による信号変化を把握して除 外する必要がなく なるため、 制御をよ り簡素化することができる。 また、 一方で、 本発明者等の検討によ り 、 上記問題点は、 ウィ ン ドシール ド上への雨自体の付着を認識できない、 または微小な付着 を分離できない点に起因する との考察が得られた。 つま り 、 雨滴検 出が可能であれば、 ワイパーを連続作動から離脱させ停止までスム ーズに制御することが可能となる。
具体的には、 ワイパーの待機時間 (間欠 連続作動を含む) は、 差分による雨滴付着周期と付着時の信号のゆらぎによ り決定する。 この決定において、 ワイパーによって集められる水の量は一切参考 と しない。 ワイパーによって集められる水の量は、 その間欠状態 (連続払拭を含む) を維持するこ とができない付着周期を検出する までのワイパーによって集められる水の量によ り 降雨の変化点を判 断し、 停止にまで遷移させるための条件と して使用する。
図 1 9 を用いて、 本発明の基本思想を説明する。 図 1 9の下段は、 雨滴の付着を基準と したワイパーの払拭状態 (停止, 間欠払拭, 連 続払拭を含む) の制御を示す。
図 1 9 において、 雨滴の付着が検出されている区間は、 当該雨滴 の付着周期に従って一定の払拭状態 (例えば 1秒の間欠時間) で払 拭を行う。 次に、 付着が検出できない状況が一定区間発生する と、 当該間欠状態と間欠の判定とが異なった状況になっていく 、 したが つて現在の状況に合わせるべく停止に近付く方向へと払拭の頻度を 遷移させていく。 例えば上記の例では、 2秒の間欠時間へダウンす る。
これに対して、 ワイパーの払拭動作に伴いワイパープレー ドによ つて集められ検知面を通過する水の量 (以下 「通過水量」 という) は、 垂れ水等の影響によって払拭の度に大きな値が検出され続けて いる。
降雨状況の変化の前後における ウィ ン ドシール ドガラスの状態を 観察することによって以下の考察が得られた。 表 1
この表 1 において、 降雨があればウィ ン ドシールド上に雨滴の付 着があり、 付着した雨滴がワイパーに集められて所定の通過水量も 検出されるので、 II , IV のケースは問題がない。 III のケースは、 雨滴の付着が検出されていないにもかかわらず、 通過水量が検出さ れているが、 通過水量の値は所定の閾値以下となり小さいので、 誤 差の範囲と して許容される。 というのは、 国際公開第 9 1 / 0 3 3 9 3号パンフ レツ トにも一部記載されているよ う に、 検知面の位置 や面積によって付着確率に限界があるためである。 ·
一方、 I のケースは、 通過水量が所定の閾値以上の大きい値で検 '出されているにもかかわらず雨滴の付着が検出されていない。 通常 の降雨状況においてはこのよ うなケースは考えられない。 つま り 、 通過水量が所定の閾値以上に大き く検出される という ことは、 相当 多量の雨が降っているこ とを意味し、 このよ う な降雨状況で雨滴が 検知面に全く付着しないこ とは考えにく いからである。 したがって、 このよ う な場合には、 通過水量 = 降雨量という前提に矛盾が生じ、 この通過水量の値は降雨によるものではないと考えるのがむしろ適 切である。 したがって、 ワイパーによって集められる水の量が所定の閾値以 上に大き く検出されている状況下で、 降雨の検出 (雨の付着) がで きなく なったという こ とは、 ト ンネル進入時のよ う に走行の環境が 著しく 変化したと判断し、 いったんワイパー払拭を停止状況とする のが好ましい。
一方、 ト ンネル脱出時を考える。 あま り長く ない ト ンネルの場合 には、 その前後の降雨状況は同様である場合が多い。 つま り 、 トン ネ/レ進入前に大雨であったならば、 脱出後も大雨である。 ドライバ 一の感覚と しては、 事態の急激な変化時には敏感になる と と もに、 安全を確保したい.という本能が働く。 したがって、 ト ンネル脱出時 のよ う に、 雨によって急激に視界が悪く なる ときには、 迅速に払拭 を行いたいという欲求が支配的となる。
他方で、 オー トワイパーの制御は、 暴風雨などの例外を除いて、 雨の降りだし時には払拭頻度が段階的に高く なっていぐのが一般的 である。 このよ うな段階的制御は、 ワイパーの動作を人間感覚に合 わせるために必要なものである。
これによ り、 ト ンネル進入後に、 ワイパーの払拭を停止状態にい つたん下げてしま う と、 トンネル脱出時に降雨状態となった場合に、 停止状態から段階的に払拭頻度を上げていく こ と とな り (例えば、 停止— 3秒間欠→ 2秒間欠→ 1秒間欠) 、 払拭頻度が降雨状況に適 合するまでに時間がかかってしま う。 このよ う な制御は ドライパー の欲求に合致しない。
したがって、 本癸明では、 センサ内部の間欠 ( W P待機時間) は 付着周期によ り決定されるため停止状況とはならないよ う にする。 つま り 、 ワイパーの払拭を停止させるのは間欠を停止状況にするわ けではなく 、 次の付着周期が確定したタイ ミ ングで払拭が再開され、 付着がなければ最終的に停止状態に結び付く よ うにする。
具体的には、 ワイパーの払拭は、 トンネル進入前の間欠をベース と して、 間欠の制御を雨滴の付着に基づいて独立に行い、 当該間欠 に従って出力される払拭信号をマス ク し、 見かけ上はワイ パーの払 拭が停止したよ うにしておき、 ト ンネル脱出時には、 当該独立して 決定された間欠状態から降雨状況の追従を開始する。
こ の よ う な制御によ り 、 あま り長く ない ト ンネルにおける通過に 際して、 払拭→停止→払拭という動作をスムーズに作り 出すこ とが できる。

(第 1 の実施の形態)
次に、 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態について説明する。 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態は、 車輛が一定の降雨状況から ト ンネルのよ う な降 雨遮断環境へ進入したという走行シーンを判別し、 所定の降雨レべ ルと所定の払拭状態との対応関係を調整するものである。
まず、 車輛が一定の降雨状況から ト ンネルのよ う な降雨遮断環境 へ進入したという走行シーンを判別する方法を、 図 3 を用いて説明 する。 図 3は、 ト ンネル通過時における降雨レベルの変化を説明す る概念図である。
本発明者等の考察によ り 、 ト ンネル瑋過時の降雨レベルに関して 以下の知見が得られた。 図 3 において、 走行している車輛が P に おいて トンネルに進入し、 R において トンネルから脱出している。 トンネル進入前は一定の降雨レベルが続いており 、 トンネル進入に よって降雨レベルがゼロ (降雨なし) 付近まで減少している、 つま り、 ト ンネル進入時には、 所定時間 t 内において、 降雨レベルが所 定量 L 落ち込んでいる。 そして、 降雨レベルが落ち込んだ状態が —定期間維持され、 ト ンネルからの脱出によって降雨レベルが元に 民る。
したがって、 所定時間 t の間に降雨状況が一定の降雨レベルから 所定量 L 落ち込み、 当該落ち込んだ状態が所定期間維持されたと いう事象 (イベン ト) を捉えるこ とによ り 、 車輛が一定の降雨状況 から ト ンネルのよ う な降雨遮断環境へ進入したという走行シーンを 、 判別することができる。
また、 このよ う な判断をよ り確実に行うために、 車速情報を用い て車輛が走行状態にあるこ とを確認し、 オー トライ ト情報を用いて、 トンネル進入によ り車輛の外部が暗く なったこ とを確認してもよい。 このよ う な走行シーンの判別は、 例えば、 ある時点でのステータ ス (車輛状態おょぴ走行環境状態) を識別し、 当該時点よ り後の時 点において、 特定のィベン トが発生したこ とを検出することによつ て行う こ とができる。 .
例えば、 ある時点で車輛状態が定速走行であ り 、 走行環境状態が 一定の降雨状況である場合に、 その後、 例えば 1秒間の間に降雨レ ベルが所定量落ち込み、 当該落ち込んだ状態が例えば 3秒間維持さ れたというイベン トを検出するこ とによ り 、 車輛が一定の降雨状況 から ト ンネルのよ う な降雨遮断環境へ進入したという走行シーンを 判別することができる。
次に、 所定の降雨レベルと所定の払拭状態との対応関係を調整す る方法について説明する。 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態の理解を容易 にするために、 図 1 を利用 して従来の感度調整ポリ ゥムによる制御 方法を説明する。 従来の感度調整ボリ ゥムによる制御方法において は、 例えば降雨状態が特定の小雨の場合に、 間欠時間のステップを 7 と設定する。 この特定の小雨とステップ 7 との関係は以後固定と なる。 つま り、 降雨状態が小雨と判定された場合には、 常にステツ プ 7の間欠時間が選択される。 そして、 ドライパーの感度ポリ ゥム sru
HX定に従つて、 ステップ 7 に含まれる 3つのモ一 ドの間欠時間の中 から実際の間欠時間が選択される。
本発明の第 1 の実施の形態においては 、 降雨状態のレべルと、 間 欠時間のステツプ (払拭状態) との関係を 1対 1 に固定するのでは な <、 動的に変動させるよ う にする。 つま り 、 降雨状態のそれぞれ のレベルと払拭状態のそれぞれのレベルとの対応闕係を、 走行シー ンに応じて変動させるものである。
本発明の方法を、 図 4 を用いて具体的に説明する。 図 4は、 本発 明の第 1の実施の形態を説明する概念図 め o。 図 4 には 、 テープ ル 1 と 、 テ一プル 2 とが含まれる。 テープル 1 には降雨レベルが段 階的に定義されている。 テーブル 2には払拭状態が払拭待機時間と 払拭速度とによって複数の段階的な払拭レベルに区分されて定義さ れている。 なお、 払拭待機時間はゼロ (すなわち待機時間なし) も 含む。
図 4 に、 払拭状態の定義例を示す。 払拭状態は、 例えば図 4に示 すよ う に、 払拭待機時間が長く なれば間欠時間が長く なり、 払拭待 機時間が無限大 (∞) となれば停止状態となる。 一方、 払拭待機時 間が短く なれば間欠時間が短く なり 、 払拭待機時間がゼ口になれば 連続払拭となる。 そして、 連続払拭の中でも、 払拭速度によって高 速連続払拭と低速連続払拭とに分けられる。 こ のよ う に払拭待機時 間と払拭速度とを組み合わせるこ とによ り、 ワイパーの様々な払拭 動作を制御するこ とができ る。
本発明の第 1 の実施の形態は、 テーブル 1 の降雨レベルのそれぞ れの項目 と、 テーブル 2の払拭レベルのそれぞれの項目 とを動的に 関連付けるものである。 例えば、 ト ンネル内では、 ト ンネル脱出後 に連続払拭が必要と されるよ う な降雨レベルについては、 これを高 い払拭レベルと関連付けて払拭レベルを上げておき、 微小な卷上げ 水の付着のよ うな降雨レベルについては、 これを低い払拭レベルと 関連付けて払拭レベルを下げるよ うにするとよい。
一例と しては、 トンネル進入前では、 降雨量が多い側の降雨レべ ル n 〜 n - 3 を高速連続払拭に割当て、 降雨レベル n - 4〜 n - 8 を低速連続払拭に割当て、 降雨レベル n - 9〜 n - 15 を間欠 1 に割 当てる。 そして、 ト ンネルへの進入が判別された後には、 降雨!/ベ ル n〜 n - 8 を高速連続払拭に割当て、 降雨レベル n - 9〜 n - 15 を、 よ り払拭待機時間の長い間欠 4に割当ててもよい。 この よ う に、 '高速連続払拭に割当てられる降雨レベルの下限を下げるこ とによ り、 所定の降雨レベルについて払拭レベルを上げることができる。
なお、 このよ う に降雨レベルの項目 と払拭レベルの項目 との対応 関係を変化させる調整方法においては、 払拭レベルを上げるまたは 高くする とは、 特定の降雨レベルに関連付けられる払拭レベルをよ り上位 (待機時間がよ り短い、 も しく は払拭速度が速い) にするこ とである。 反対に、 払拭レベルを下げるまたは低くするとは、 特定 の降雨レベルに関連付けられる払拭レベルをよ り下位 (待機時間が よ り長い、 も しく は払拭速度が遅い) -にするこ とである。
次に、 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態をよ り具体的に説明する。 図 5 は、 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態に係るワイパー制御装置の構成をレ ィャ構造で説明するブロ ック図である。 図 5 において、 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態に係るワイパー制御装置は、 4つの層 (Layer) の 構成によって表すことができ、 それぞれの層間にて、 例えば S A P (サー ビス . アクセス · ポイ ン ト) のよ う な共通イ ンターフェース を介してデータまたは信号が通信されている。
第 1層にレイ ンセンサ物理層 9 0 と、 車輛制御コ ンピュータまた はワイパーモータ 1 0. 0 とが含まれ、 第 2層に雨滴情報検出部 2 2 と、 車輛情報検出部 2 4 と、 イ ンターフ ェース 2 6 とが含まれ、 第 3層に降雨レベル生成部 3 2が含まれ、 第 4層に払拭状態制御部 4 2 と、 ワイパー駆動信号生成部 4 8 とが含まれる。 なお、 これらの 各部は、 ソフ トウェアによって実現することができる。
レイ ンセンサ物理層 9 0は、 光学機構と回路とによって構成され、 例えば、 発光素子からの光を検知面で反射させ、 反射光を受光素子 で受光する方式の光学機構と、 受光素子出力を処理する フ ィ ルタ回 路, 増幅回路, A / Dコンバータ等の回路とで構成される。 このよ うなレイ ンセンサの例は、 特開 2 0 0 1 - 1 8 0 4 4 7号公報およ ぴ特開 2 0 0 2— 2 7 7 3 8 6号公報に開示されている。
光学機構を説明する。 例えば L E D等の発光素子から発せられた 光は、 プリ ズムガラス等を通じて、 水滴の検出を行うべき透明性基 板であるガラス基板 (ウィ ン ドシール ドガラス) に導かれる。 導か れた光は、 検知面にて全反射し、 前記プリ ズムガラスを通じて、 例 えばフ ォ トダイオー ド等の受光素子に入射する。 この よ う な光学機 構は、 例えば水滴等の付着のない状態で、 受光素子には最大の出力 が発生するよ うに配置構成されている。 このとき、 検知面に水滴等 の付着がある と、 受光素子の出力は低下する。 なお、 このよ う な検 知面は、 ワイパーの払拭動作範囲内に配置される。
車輛制御コンピュータまたはワイパーモータ 1 0 0は、 本発明の ワイパー制御装置に接続されるものであ り 、 本発明の実施態様に従 つて適宜選択可能である。 車輛制御コ ンピュータが接続される場合 には、 車輛制御コ ンピュータを介してワイパーモータが制御される。 ワイパーモータが接続される場合には、 ワイパーモータが直接制御 される。
雨滴情報検出部 2 2は、 レイ ンセンサの受光素子出力信号に基づ いて、 雨滴に関する様々な情報を検出して出力する。 情報と しては、 雨滴の付着という事象、 付着した雨滴のゆらぎ、 所定時間当たり の 信.号レベルの変位量などである。
車輛情報検出部 2 4は、 車輛側で制御される様々な情報を検出し て出力する。 車輛情報と しては、 ワイパーの動作区間を示すオー ト ス ト ップ信号, 車速情報, ワイパースィ ッチの 置情報, オー トラ イ ト情報, 感度ボリ ゥムの設定位置情報, ライ トスィ ッチの位置情 報等である。
イ ンターフェース 2 6 は、 上位層 (第.4層) からのワイパー駆動 信号を、 車輛制御コ ンピュータまたはワイパーモータそれぞれに適 合する形式の信号に変換して出力する。
降雨レベル生成部 3 2は、 雨滴情報検出部 2 2 の出力に基づいて、 現在の降雨レベルを判定し、 降雨レベルを生成する。 具体的には、 図 4 のテーブル 1 に定義された降雨レベルのどのレベルに該当する か決定する。 なお、 後述するよ う に、 降雨レベルは、 確立された基 ' 準降雨レベルと暫定的な暫定降雨レベルと を設けるよ うに.する と よ い o
払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 車速情報, 降雨レベル情報, オー トライ ト情報, タイマー等の制御情報を用いて走行シーンを判定し、 判定 した走行シーンに応じて降雨レベルと払拭レベルと の対応闋係を調 整する。 例えば、 払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2に よって生成された降雨レベル、 車輛情報検出部 2 4 によって検出さ れた車速情報, ォー トライ ト情報など.から走行シーンを判定し、 判 定 した走行シーンに したがっ て、 所定の降雨レベルを どの払拭レべ ルに割当てるか決定する。 また、 感度ボリ ゥムが設定されている場 合には、 必要に応じて感度ボリ ゥムを考慮して降雨レベルと払拭レ ベルと の対応関係を調整する。 こ のよ う に、 払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 走行シーン判定機能と、 対応関係調整機能とを備える。
具体的には、 払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 車速情報, 降雨レベル情報, オー トライ ト情報, タイマー等の制御情報を用いて、 車輛が一定の 降雨状況から トンネルに進入したという走行シーンを判別し、 所定 の閾値以上の降雨レベルを、 ト ンネル進入前よ り も高い払拭レベル に割当て、 所定の閾値未満の降雨レベルを、 ト ンネル進入前と同等、 またはそれよ り も低い払拭レベルに割当てる。
ヮィパー駆動信号生成部 4 8は、 払拭状態制御部 4 2によって設 定された降雨レベルおよび払拭レベルの対応関係と、 降雨レベル生 成部 3 2によって生成された降雨レベルとに基づいて図 4 のテープ ル 2の項目のよ うな払拭状態を決定し、 所定の払拭待機時間かつ所 定の払拭速度のワイパー駆動信号を出力する。 ワイパー駆動信号は、 インターフェース 2 6 を介して車輛制御コ ンピュータまたはワイパ 一モータ 1 0 0へ出力される。
(降雨レベルの生成)
次に、 降雨レベルの生成について説明する。 降雨のレベルは、 雨 滴情報検出部 2 2によって検出される雨滴情報に基づいて決定する ことができる。
降雨レベルの生成に用いられる雨滴情報の検出方法について説明 する。 雨滴情報の検出方法と しては、 本発明者等によって開示され た、 雨滴の動的な付着を検出する方法 (特開 2 0 0 1 — 1 8 0 4 4 7号公報) を用いるこ とができる。 こ の方法は、 受光素子の信号か ら遅れ信号を生成し、 受光素子の信号と遅れ信号の差分を求め、 差 分が発生したとき、 検知面に水滴の衝突があつたと判断するも ので ある。 あるいは、 受光素子の信号の 1.次遅れ信号を生成し、 1 次遅 れ信号から 2次遅れ信号を生成し、 1 次遅れ信号と 2次遅れ信号の 差分を求め、 差分が発生したとき、 検知面に水滴の衝突があつたと 判断するものである。 この方法によ り 、 雨滴等の動的な付着そのも のを捕らえるこ とができる。
したがって、 雨滴情報検出部 2 2は、 検知面へ雨滴が衝突した事 象を検出し、 雨滴の付着と して出力する。
降雨レベル生成部 3 2は、 この よ う な雨滴の付着情報に基づいて 降雨のレベルを決定し、 現在の降雨レベルを生成してもよい。 例え ば、 所定時間当たり の付着個数に基づいて降雨レベルを段階的に定 義し、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2 は、 所定時間当たり の付着個数に従つ て降雨レベルを決定してもよい。 具体的には、 所定時間当たり の付 着個数が多ければ降雨レベルが高く なり 、 付着個数が少なければ降 雨レベルを低く してもよい。 このよ う に、 雨滴の付着情報に基づい て、 降雨状態を詳細にレベル分けして定義することができる。
また、 降雨レベルの決定には、 付着した雨滴のゆらぎを用いても よい。 本発明者等によって開示された特開 2 0 0 2— 2 7 7 3 8 6 号公報には、 検知面上に付着した雨滴を通して得た受光素子の信号 の動的なゆらぎによって間接的に付着物の動的なゆらぎを検出する ことができ、 さ らに、 その信号のゆらぎの変化パターンによって雨 滴の大き さ、 雨滴の当たり方を判断する方法が開示されている。 こ のよ うに、 雨滴のゆらぎの情報によって雨滴の大き さ等を推定する こ とができるので、 この雨滴のゆらぎの情報を雨滴の付着と組み合 わせるこ とによ り 、 降雨状態をさ らに詳細にレベル分けするこ とが できる。
上記判断に用いる信号のゆらぎの変化パターンを、 上記信号のゆ らぎの時間の変化パターンとするこ とができ、 信号のゆらぎの長さ によって間接的に付着物のゆらぎの長さを検出するこ とができる。 例えば、 付着物を雨滴とする と、 その物性と して雨滴が大きいほど ゆらぎが長く持続するので、 検出したゆらぎの長さから雨滴の大き さを推定することができる。
また、 上記判断に用いる信号のゆらぎの変化パターンを、 上記信 号のゆらぎの大きさの変化パターンとするこ とができ、 信号のゆら ぎの大き さによって間接的に付着物のゆらぎの大き さを検出するこ とができる。 例えば、 付着物を雨滴とする と、 その物性と して雨滴 が大きいほどゆらぎが大きいので、 検出したゆらぎの大きさから雨 滴の大き さを推定するこ とができる。 なお、 ゆらぎの大き さを表す パラメータ と しては、 ゆらぎ内の増減の変化回数, 増減の変化量, 変化の増減の方向が含まれる。
. したがって、 雨滴情報検出部 2 2は、 信号のゆらぎの変化パタ一 ンを検出して出力する。 具体的には、 信号のゆらぎの長さ, 信号の ゆらぎ内の増減の.変化回数, 増減の変化量, 変化の増減の方向など を出力する。
降雨レベル生成部 3 2は、 このよ う にして雨滴情報検出部 2 2が 検出した、 雨滴の付着と信号のゆらぎの変化パターンとから、 降雨 状態をよ り詳細に判定するよ うにしてもよい。
例えば、 信号のゆらぎの大き さの変化パターンと信号のゆらぎの 長さの変化パターンとを含む信号のゆらぎの変化の諸特性と雨 の 大き さ との対応関係を実験的に求めておき、 これをテーブルと して メモリ に記憶しておく。 そして、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2は、 このテ 一ブルに基づいて、 検出された信号のゆらぎの変化パターンから雨 滴の大きさを判断するよ う にしてもよい。
そして、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2 は、 所定時間当たり に検出された 雨滴の付着個数と、 付着した雨滴の大き さ とから降雨レベルを判定 し、 現在の降雨レベルを生成するよ う にしてもよい。
さ らに、 雨滴情報の検出方法と しては、 特開昭 6 1 - 3 7 5 6 0 号公報に開示された基準値との比較によ り雨滴を検出する方法 (い わゆる閾値法) 、 特開平 4 一 3 4 9 0 5 3号公報に開示された受光 素子出力の積算値によ り雨滴を検出する方法 (いわゆる積分法) を 用いる こ と もできる。 そして、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2は、 これらの 方法で検出された雨滴情報に基づいて降雨レベルを決定するこ とが できる。
(暫定降雨レベル)
次に、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2は、 確立された基準降雨レベルと 、 暫定的な暫定降雨レベルとを生成する。 暫定的な降雨レベルは、 降 雨状況の変化に迅速に応答して決定される。 すなわち、 雨滴情報検 出部 2 2からの検出情報が変化した場合には、 それに対応して暫定 降雨レベルを変更する。 一方、 確立された基準降雨レベルは、 比較 的長い判定期間にしたがって決定されるものである。
暫定的な降雨レベルと確立された降雨レベルと の制御方法の例を 説明する。 降雨レベル生成部 3 2 は、 雨滴情報検出部 2 2からの検 出情報が変化した場合には、 それに対応して暫定降雨レベルを決定 する。 そして、 タイマを用いて暫定降雨レベルが所定期間維持され るか判断する。 暫定降雨レベルが所定期間維持された場合には、 基 準降雨レベルを当該維持された暫定降雨レベルによって更新する。 一方、 暫定降雨レベルが所定期間維持されず一時的なものであった 場合には、 基準降雨レベルは変更されず、 元のまま維持される。 .
(払拭状態制御部)
次に、 払拭状態制御部 4 2 について説明する。 図 6 は、 払拭状態 制御部の構成を説明するプロ ック図であ り 、 図 7および 8は、 シー ン判定の方法を説明する概念図であり 、 図 9 , 1 0は、 動的リ ンク の方法を説明する概念図である。
図 6 に示すよ うに、 払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 シーン分解部 4 4 と、 リ ンク部 4 6 とを有する。 シーン分解部 4 4 は、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2 によって生成された降雨レベル、 車輛情報検出部 2 4によって 検出された車速情報, オー トライ ト情報などから、 車輛が一定の降 雨状況から ト ンネルに進入したという走行シーンを判定し、 所定の 降雨レベルと.所定の払拭レベルとの対.応関係を調整する。 このよ う な調整の一例と して、 図 4に示すよ うなテーブル 1 (降雨レベル) とテーブル 2 (払拭状態) と をリ ンクする リ ンクパターンを決定し、 決定したリ ンタパターンを識別する識別情報と して I Dを出力する。
そして、 リ ンク部 4 6は、 複数のリ ンクパターンの中から、 シー ン分解部 4 4によって出力された識別情報に基づいて特定のリ ンク パターンを選択し、 当該選択したリ ンクパターンによって降雨レべ ルの項目 と払拭レベルの項目 とをリ ンク させる。 具体的には、 選択 される リ ンクパターンは、 所定の閾値以上の降雨レベルを高い払拭 レベルと関連付け、 所定の閾値未満の降雨レベルを低い払拭レベル と関連付ける。
(シーン分解部)
次に、 シーン分解部について説明する。 図 7に示すよ うに、 シー ン分解部 4 4 は、 ステータ ス管理部 4 4 1 と 、 エンテ ィ ティ スケジ ユーラ 4 4 2 と、 パターンテーブル管理部 4 4 4 と、 パターンスケ ジユーラ 4 4 6 とを含む。
ステータス管理部 4 4 1 は、 現在の車輛の状態と現在の走行環境 の状態とから構成されるステータスを管理する。 具体的には、 現在 の車輛の状態 (停止, 走行, 加速, 減速等) を車速情報から判断す る。 また、 現在の走行環境の状態を降雨レベル、 オー トライ ト情報 などから判断する。 走行環境の状態は、 例えば、 降雨状態 (晴れ状 態, 雨状態) , 明暗状態, トンネル内などである。 この降雨状態は、 降雨レベルから判断される。 また、 明暗状態は、 例えばオー トライ ト情報, ライ トスィ ッチの位置情報から判断される。
そして、 ステータ ス管理部 4 4 1 は、 決定した現在の車輛の状態、 現在の走行環境の状態を基準と して、 図 8 に示すよ う なステータ ス 情報テーブルから現在のステータ スを選択する。 図 8のテーブルに は、 異なるステ タスがそれぞれのァ ド レスに BX定されており そ れぞれのァ ドレスには エンティティ情報とパタ ンテ ブル情報 と力 S リ ンク されている o このよ う に、 .ステータス管理部 4 4 1 は 車輛の状 と走行 との組合せにしたがって 1 つのァ ドレスを 選択する ο そして 、 ステ タスが変更し 7 fc?口 には 亦 isz.更後のステ タスのァ ドレスを選択する。
次に、 ェンティティスケジユーラ 4 4 2は、 複数の工ンティティ の中力 ら ステ タス管理部 4 4 1 によって決定されたステ タス にリ ンク されたェンティティ 4 4 3のみ^起動させる。 図 8 に示す よ うにそれぞれのステ タ スのァ ドレス には、 固有のェンティティ 情報がリ ンク されているので、 現在のステータスにリ ンク したェン ティティ 4 4 3のみを識別して起動させる。 具体的にはェンティテ ィ情報に含まれるエンティティ I Dによ り、 指定された 1または複 数のエンティティ を識別して起動させる。
次に、 パターンテーブル管理部 4 4 4は、 複数のパターンテープ ルの中から、 ステータス管理部 4 4 1 によって決定されたステータ スにリ ンク されたパターンテープル 4 4 5 を選択して設 Λ£す 0 図 8に示すよ う にそれぞれのステータスのァ ド レスには、 固有のパタ ーンテーブル情報がリ ンク されているので、 現在のステ タス にジ ンク したパターンテーブル 4 4 5のみを識別して監視対象と して 定する。 具体的にはパターンテーブル情報に含まれるパターンテ ブル I Dによ り、 指定きれた 1 または複数のバターンテープルを識 別して選択する。
エンティティは、 検出すべきイベン ト の数に合わせて複数設ける とよい。 そして、 それぞれのエンティティが固有のイベン トを監視 する と よい。 例えば、 加速検出エンテ ィ ティは、 車輛の加速という イベン トを検出する。 また、 晴れ状態検出エンティ テ ィは、 雨がや んで晴れになったというイベン トを検出する。 トンネル進入検出ェ ンティティは、 車輛が ト ンネルに進入したというイベン トを検出す る。 そして、 ステータスに応じて、 エンティティスケジューラ 4 4 2 によって複数のエンティティの中から特定のエンティティのみが 起動されることになる。 起動されたエンティティ 4 4 3 に含まれる それぞれのエンティティ は、 所定のィベン トの発生を検出し、 検出 したイベン トを、 設定されたパターンテーブル 4 4 5 に登録する機 能を有する。
このよ うなイベン ト の検出は、 暫定降雨レベル情報, 車速情報, オー ト ライ ト情報などから検出するこ とができる。 また、 ェンティ ティは、 タイマを有しており 、 特定の状況 (例えば降雨の停止) が 所定期間継続したイベン ト, 降雨レベル等が所定期間の間に所定量 変化したイベン トなど、 時間の概念を含んで成立するイベン トを検 出することもできる。
パターンテーブルは、 それぞれが固有のリ ンクパターンに対応し ており 、 リ ンクパターンの数と同数設けられる。 それぞれのパター ンテーブルは、 判定すべき走行シーンに対応したィベン ト登録プロ ックのパターンを有しており 、 特定のパターンテープ/レのィベン ト 登録ブロ ックが全て埋まるこ とによって特定の走行シーンが検出さ れる。 このよ う なパターンテーブルは検出すべき走行シーンに応じ て複数設けられると よい。 そして、 複数のパターンテーブルの中か ら、 パターンテーブル管理部 4 4 4によって所定のパターンテープ ルが選択され、 監視対象と して設定される。
パターンテーブル管理部 4 4 4によって設定されたパターンテー プル 4 4 5は、 イベン トを登録するための 1 または複数のイベン ト 登録ブロ ックを有している。 そして、 任意のプロ ックにマスクを力 けるこ とによって様々な固有のパターンが設定されている。 または、 固有のィベン トのみを登録するよ う に、 それぞれのィベン ト登録プ 口 ックに特定のィベン トを識別する I Dなどの識別情報を付加する こ とによ り、 固有のパターンを設定してもよい。
このよ う にして起動されたエンティティ と、 監視対象と して設定 されたパタ一ンテ一ブルとの動作を説明する o 図 7に示丁よ う に、 特定のェンティティが自身のィベン トを検出した場 □ そのィベン 卜がパタ一ンテ一ブルに登録されるこ とになる o この際ゝ ェンティ ティ がィベン 卜を登録できるのは、 当該ィベン hに割当てられたィ へ、、
ン ト登録ブ ックのみでめる 0 し /し つて 、 あるィ ベン 卜は全て のパターンテ一プルに登録されるこ と もあり 、 1つのパタ一ンテ一 プルのみに登録されること もある。
次に、 パターンスケジューラ 4 4 6 は、 設定されたパターンテー プルを監視し、 全てのイベン ト登録プロ ックにィベン トが登籙され たパターンテーブルを検出し、 当該検出したパターンテーブルに付 された I Dを出力する。 こ の I Dは、 リ ンクテーブルを識別する情 報である。 なお、 パターンスケジューラ 4 4 6 と、 上述したパター ンテープル管理部 4 4 4 とを合体させ、 1つのパターンスケジユー ラに双方の機能を持たせるよ う に構成してもよい。
次に、 ジ ンク部 4 6は、 図 9 に示す に 、 パターンスケシユー ラ 4 4 6 によつて出力された I Dに基づいて特定のリ ンクノ ターン を選択し 、 当該選択したリ ングパタ一ンによつて降雨レベルの項目 と払拭状 * fig匕の項目 とをリ ンク させる。 図 9 に示すよ う に、 それぞれ のリ ンクパタ一ンには異なる対応関係のノ タ一ンが設定されており 走行シーンに合わせて適切なリ ンクパタ —ンを選択するこ とによ り 適切な対応関係の調整を行う ことができる。
車輛が一定の降雨状況から トンネルに進入した場合に選択される リ ンクパターンを説明する。 このリ ンクパターンは、 図 9 に示すよ う に、 所定の閾値 th 以上の降雨レベルを連続払拭に割当て、 所定 の閾値 th 未満の降雨レベルを間欠 3以下の長い間欠時間に割当て てもよい。 また、 閾値を 2つ以上設定してもよい。 例えば図 1 0 に 示すよ う に、 第 1 の閾値 thl 以上の降雨レベルを連続払拭に割当 て、 第 2の閾値 th2 未満の降雨レベルを間欠 3以下の長い間欠時 間に割当ててもよい。 特に ト ンネル内では、 脱出時に備えて、 一定 以上の雨量に対しては急速に払拭頻度が上がるよ う にすると よい。 上記の説明にねいては 、 エンティティスケシユーラ 4 4 2 を設け、 現在のステ タスに対して必要なエンティティ のみを起動させる構 成と した。 しかしながら 、 パターンテーブルのィベン ト登録ブロ ッ クが特定のィベン 卜のみを受け付ける構成とすれば、 全てのェンテ ィティ ¾■同時に作動させる構成と してもよい。 したがって 、 ェンテ ィティスケジューラ 4 4 2を省略する構成と してもよい。
しかしながら、 ェンティテイ スケジユーラ 4 4 2 を設けるこ とに よ り 、 同時に作動するェンティティの数を制限しつつ、 同様の制御 を実現する とができる れは、 臣&視すべきィベン トはステータ スに応じて変化するものであり、 必ずしも全てのェンティティ を作 動させな < てもよいためである。 例 ば、 ステ一タスが走行状態の
■¾?口 、 停止というィベン 卜を検出する必要があるが、 停止から発進 したというイベン トを検出するエンティティは必要ない。 また、 ス テータスが晴れ状態の場合、 検出すべきイベン トは、 雨の降り 出し, 霧の付着, 晴れの継続等であり、 降雨が停止する というイベン トを 検出するエンティティを作動させておく必要がない。
このよ う に、 エンティティスケジューラ 4 4 2 を設けることによ り、 同時に作動するエンティ ティ の数を減らすこ とができ、 処理に 必要なリ ソースを低減することが可能となる。
(第 1 の実施の形態の動作)
次に、 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態の動作について図 1 1 を参照し て説明する。 ここで 、 図 1 1 は 、 第 1 の実施の形態の動作を説明す るフローチヤー トである。 まず 、 ステクプ 2 0 2において、 ステ一 タス管理部 4 4 1 は 、 現在のステータスを決定してステータス情報 テ一プルの該当するァ ド レスを選択する 。 例えば、 降雨レベルが変 更した場合には、 基準降雨レべルによつてこれを判断する と よい。 とい う のは、 自然界の降雨は変化するあのであり 、 一時的な変化に 追従してステ一タスを変更する と、 ヮィノヽ。一の挙動が不安定になる からである。 したがって、 例えば基準降雨レベルが晴れから一定の 降雨レベルに変わった段階で、 ステータスを変更させる。
例えば、 ト ンネル進入前のステータスと して、 一定の閾値以上の 降雨レベルが選択される。 また、 車速情報がある場合には、 走行速 度が一定であるステータスが選択される。
次に、 ステップ 2 0 4 において、 エンティティ スケジューラ 4 4 2は、 ステータ ス管理部 4 4 1 によって選択されたステータス情報 テーブルのァ ド レスに リ ンク されたエンティ テ ィ情報を受け取り 、 指定されたエンティティ を識別して起動させる。 ここで起動される エンティティ は、 降雨レベルが、 所定時間内に所定量落ち込み、 こ の落ち込んだ状態が所定の期間継続したというイベン トを検出する エンティティ である。 また、 オー ト ライ ト情報がある場合には、
( ト ンネル進入によって) オー トライ ト システムが前照灯 (車幅灯 を含む) の点灯を判断したどいう イベン トを検出するエンティ テ ィ を起動させる。
これと並行して、 ステップ 2 0 6 において、 パターンテーブル管 理部 4 4 4は、 ステータ ス管理部 4 4 1 によって選択され'たステー タス情報テーブルのァ ドレスにリ ク されたパターンテーブル情報 を受け取り 、 指定されたパターンテーブルを選択して監視対象と し て設定する。 ここで選択されるパターンテーブルは、 ステップ 2 0 4で起動されたエンティティが検出するイベン トを登録するィベン ト登録ブロ ックを有するパターンテーブルである。
次に、 ステップ 2 0 8 において、 起動されているエンティティが 自身のィベン トを検出し、 検出したィベン トをパターンテーブルに 登録する。 イベン トを登録する際には、 当該イベン トが割当てられ たィベン ト登録プロ ックのみを対象とする。 このよ う なィベン トの 検出おょぴ検出したイベン ト の登録は、 エンテ ィ テ ィ が複数ある場 合には、 それぞれのエンティティ単位で行われる。 ここでは、 降雨 レベルが所定時間内に所定量落ち込み、 この落ち込んだ状態が所定 の期間継続したとい うイベン トが検出され登録される。
次に、 ステップ 2 1 0 において、 パターンスケジューラ 4 4 6 は、 全てのィベン ト登録プロ ックにイベン トが登録されたパターンテー ブルを検出する。 そして、 ステップ 2 1 2において、 検出したパタ ーンテーブルに割当てられた I Dを出力する。 こ こでは、 降雨レべ ルが所定時間内に所定量落ち込み、 この落ち込んだ状態が'所定の期 間継続したというィベン トが登録されたパターンテーブルが検出さ れ、 車輛が一定の降雨状況から トンネルに進入したという走行シー ンが判別される。
そして、 ステップ 2 1 4 において、 リ ンク部 4 6 は、 パターンス ケジユーラ 4 4 6 によって出力された I Dに基づいて、 複数のリ ン クパターンの中から指定されたリ ンクパターンを選択し、 当該選択 したリ ンクパターンによって降雨レベルのテーブルと払拭状態のテ 一ブルとをリ ンク させる。 ここでは、 例えば図 9 に示すよ う に、 所 定の閾値 th以上の降雨レベルを連続払拭に割当て、 所定の閾値 th 未満の降雨レベルを間欠 3以下の長い間欠時間に割当てる。
次に、 ステップ 2 1 6 において、 ワイパー駆動信号生成部 4 8は、 降雨レベル生成部 3 2によって生成された暫定降雨レベルを、 図 9 に示すよ うな降雨レベルテーブルに当てはめ、 当該降雨レベルに関 連付けられた特定の払拭レベルを選択してワイパーの払拭状態を決 定し、 所定の払拭待機時間かつ所定の払拭速度のワイパー駆動隼号 を出力する。 ここでは、 ト ンネル内での卷上げの付着に対しては、 閾値 th 未満の降雨レベルと して低い払拭レベル (長い間欠時間) が選択される。 一方、 ト ンネル出口で大粒の雨が連続して付着する 場合には、 閾値 th 以上の降雨レベルと して高い払拭レベル (連続 払拭) が選択される。
このよ う に、 本発明の第 1 の実施の形態によれば、 特定のィベン トの発生によって車輛が一定の降雨状況から トンネルに進入したと いう走行シーンを判別し、 このよ う な走行シーンに対応したリ ンク パターンを選択することができる。 また、 このよ う な リ ンクパター ンを用いて、 所定の降雨レベル未満の低レベルの降雨に対して払拭 レベルを低く設定し、 所定の降雨レベル以上の高レベルの降雨に対 して払拭レベルを高く設定するこ とによ り、 ト ンネル通過時におけ る降雨状況の変化に追従するこ とができる。
なお、 第 1 の実施の形態においては、 トンネル脱出から'一定時間 が経過したというィ.ベン トを検出し、 パターンテーブルを トンネル 進入前のものに戻す処理をおこなってもよい。 とレヽう のは、 トンネ ル脱出から一定時間が経過すると、 ドライパーが降雨状況に慣れて いき、 ト ンネル進入前と同様のワイパー動作が ドライパーの感覚に マッチするよ うになるからである。
(第 2の実施の形態)
次に、 本発明の第 2の実施の形態を説明する。 上述した第 1 の実 施の形態は、 降雨レベルと払拭レベルとの対応関係を調整するもの であったが、 本発明の第 2 の実施の形態は、 雨滴の検出感度を調整 するものである。
まず、 降雨量が一定以上の降雨状況において、 時速 1 0 O km 程 度の高速で走行する車輛が ト ンネルから脱出した際の受光素子出力 信号の波形を説明する。 図 1 2は、 受光素子出力信号の波形モデル を説明する図であり、 ト ンネル脱出後にワイパーが 1 回目の払拭を 行った際の信号波形のモデルを示す。 . 図 1 2において、 トンネル脱出後に雨滴の付着が検出される と、 ワイパーが駆動されて第 1 回目の払拭が行われる。 こ の第 1 回目の 払拭によ り、 検知面に付着している雨滴が除去され信号レベルが回 復する。 しかしながら、 マス ク区間の間に新たな雨滴が検知面に付 着して水膜が発生するので、 マス ク区間終了後には信号レベルが低 下している。
一般的に、 ワイパーブレー ドが検知面を通過する時の信号変化は 非常に大きい。 このため、 ワイ パープレー ド通過時 (ワイ パー駆動 区間) は、 信号をマスク して検出対象から外している。 そして、 雨 滴の検出処理は、 マスク区間が終了した時点から再開されること と なる。 しかしながら、 このよ う に信号レベルが低下した状態では、 分解能が低下してしま う ので、 たとえ大粒の雨滴が付着したと して も信号の変化が出にく く なつてしま う。
このよ う なこ とから、 車輛が トンネルを脱出し、 第 1 回目の払拭 を行った後には、 当該第 1 回目の払拭を行う前に比べて雨滴が検出 しにく く なるこ とがある。 一方で、 大粒の雨滴が連続して付着する よ う な降雨状況においては、 特に トンネル出口においては、 雨滴を 確実に検出して迅速に連続的な払拭を行う ことが望ましい。
本発明者等は、 一定以上の降雨量がある状況において、 車輛が一 定以上の高速で ト ンネルを脱出する際には、 受光素子出力の微小な 変化を捉えられるよ う に、 検出感度を高くするこ とが望ま しいとの 知見を得た。 本発明の第 2の実施の形態は、 車輛が一定の降雨状況 から トンネルのよ う な降雨遮断環境へ進入したという走行シーンを 判別し、 検知面に付着した雨滴に対する検出感度を高くするもので ある。
次に、 本発明の第 2の実施の形態の構成について、 図 1 3 を参照 して説明する。 こ こで、 図 1 3 は、 本発明の第 2の実施の形態に係 るワイパー制御装置の構成をレイヤ構造で説明するプロ ック図であ る。 図 1 3 において、 本発明の第 2の実施の形態に係るワイパー制 御装置は、 4つの層 (Layer) の構成によって表すことができる。
上述した第 1 の実施の形態に示した構成と同様の構成については 同じ符号を付し、 詳細な説明を省略する。 この第 2の実施の形態に おいては、 第 3層に降雨レベル生成部 3 2 と、 感度制御部 3 4 とが 含まれている.。 なお、 これらの各部は、 ソフ ト ウェアによって実現 することができる。
感度制御部 3 4は、 上述した払拭状態制御部 4 2が走行シーンを 判別した結果にしたがって、 検知面に付着した雨滴に対する検出感 度を制御する。 具体的には、 払拭状態制御部 4 2が、 車輛が一定の 降雨状況から ト ンネルの よ う な降雨遮断環境へ進入したという走行 シーンを判別した場合には、 この判別に基づいて検出感度を高く す るよ う にすると よい。 また、 払拭状態制御部 4 2が、 走行シーンの 判別にしたがって上述したよ うな I Dを出力し、 感度制御部 3 4が この I Dを受信して検出感度を高くするよ うにしてもよい。
検知面に付着した雨滴に対する検出感度を.高くする方法と しては.、 例えば、 雨滴の付着によ り生じる信号変化に対する閾値を低ぐする こ とによ り、 信号波形の小さな変化を捉えるよ う にしてもよい。 ま た、 小さな信号変化に割当てられる降雨レベルを高くするよ うにし ても よい。
また、 車輛が一定以上の高速で走行しているこ とを条件と して、 このよ うな検出感度の調整を行う よ う にしてもよい。 例えば、 払拭 状態制御部 4 2は、 車速情報に基づいて、 車輛が所定の高速走行の 状態であることを検出し、 これを条件と して感度制御部 3 4に指示 を与えるよ う にしてもよい。 なお、 車輛が高速走行の状態であると いうイベン トは、 上述したエンティティ によって検出するこ とがで き、 これをパターンテーブルに登録するよ うにしてもよい。
このよ う にすることによ り 、 本発明の第 2の実施の形態において は、 車輛が一定以上の高速で走行しており 、 トンネルから脱出して ある程度の大雨の状況に突入する際に、 降雨状況に迅速に追従して 必要な払拭状態を実現するこ とができる。
なお、 第 2の実施の形態においては、 ト ンネル脱出から一定時間 が経過したというイベン トを検出し、 検出感度を ト ンネル進入前の ものに戻す処理をおこなってもよい。 というのは、 ト ンネル脱出か ら一定時間が経過すると、 ドライパーが降雨状況に慣れていき、 ト ンネル進入前と同様のワイパー動作が ドライパーの感覚にマッチす るよ うになる力 らである。
(第 3の実施の形態) 次に、 本発明の第 3 の実施の形態を説明する 図 1 4は、 ワイパ
—ブレードが検知面を通過する時のワイパ一の動きを説明する図で あり、 図 1 5は、 雨滴の付着がない場合に、 ヮ パ プレー ドが検 知面を通過する時の受光素子出力信号の波形モ丁ルを示す図である。 図 1 4に示すように、 ワイパープレー ドは、 往運動によつて検知面 を通過し、 検知面通過後に反転して復運動を開始し 、 再び検知面を 通過して原点位置に戻る。
次に、 図 1 5 の波形モデルを説明する 。 図 1 5 においては、 マス ク区間内の信号波形を、 ワイパーの動作にしたが て 、 いくつかの 区間に分けている。 すなわち、 往路上でワイパ ブレ一ドが検知面 を通過するまでの信号 A、 往路上で検知面を通過する際の信号 ワイパーブレー ドが検知面を通過した後に反転し、 再び検知面を通 過するまでの信号 B、 復路上で検知面を通過する際の信号 X2、 復 路上で検知面を通過した後の信号 Cである。
次に、 ワイパ一の連続的な払拭を必要とするような大雨の降雨状 況において、 時速 1 0 0 km 程度の高速で走行する車輛がトンネル から脱出した際の受光素子出力信号の波形を説明する。 図 1 6 、 図

まず、 図 1 6 においては、 一般的に大雨とされるような降雨状況 における信号波形のモデルを示す。 この降雨状況の信号波形につい て、 本発明者等は以下の知見を得た。 すなわち、 A および C の区 間において信号波形に大きな運動が現われるという ことである。 な お、 第 2の実施の形態においても述べたように、 マスク区間が終了 した時点においては、 信号の変化が現われにく い状況となっている。 次に、 図 1 7 においては、 図 1 6の大雨より もさ らに降雨量が多 い、 一般的に豪雨とされるような降雨状況における信号波形のモデ ルを示す。 この降雨状況の信号波形について、 本発明者等は以下の 知見を得た。 すなわち、 A, B , および C の区間において信号波形 に大きな運動が現われる という ことである。
以上の知見に基づいて、 ワイパーの連続的な払拭を必要とするよ う な大雨の降雨状況においては、 少なく とも A および C の区間に おいて信号波形に大きな運動が現われることが分かった。 一方、 図 1 5 に示すよ う に、 雨滴の付着がない場合には、 A, B, C のいず れの区間においても信号波形に運動が現われていない。 本発明の第 3 の実施の形態は、 このよ う なマスク区間内の信号波形の運動量を 用いるものである。 そして、 本発明の第 3の実施の形態は、 車輛が 一定の降雨状況から ト ンネルのよ うな降雨遮断環境へ進入したとい う走行シーンを判別し、 マスク区間内の受光素子の出力信号を対象 と して雨滴を検出するものである。
次に、 マスク区間内の信号波形を対象と して雨滴を検出する方法 を説明する。 本発明の第 3の実施の形態においては、 ト ンネル内に おけるマス ク区間内の信号波形の運動量と、 トンネル脱出後のマス ク区間内の信号波形の運動量とを対比するこ とによ り 、 雨滴の付着 を検出するよ う にしてもよい。 信号波形の運動量の評価は、 上述し た雨滴のゆらぎを用いるこ とができる。
例えば、 信号波形の運動量と して、 信号のゆらぎの長さ、 そして 信号のゆらぎ内の増減の変化回数, 増減の変化量, 変化の増減の方 向などを用いる と よい。 そして、 トンネル内におけるマスク区間内 の信号のゆらぎに含まれるゆらぎの長さ, 増減の変化回数, 増減の 変化量等を トンネル内におけるマスク区間内の信号波形の運動量と して求める。 次に、 トンネル脱出後のマスク区間内の信号のゆらぎ に含まれるゆらぎの長さ, 増減の変化回数, 増減の変化量等を トン ネル脱出後のマス ク区間内の信号波形の運動量と して求める。 この 両者を対比するこ とによ り 、 ト ンネル脱出後に雨滴が付着している ことを検出してもよい。 .
具体的には、 払拭状態制御部 4 2が、 車輛が一定の降雨状況から ト ンネルのよ うな降雨遮断環境 人したという走行シーンを判別 する。 この判別の時点においては单輔が トンネル内を走行している ので、 次に、 払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 . 'マス ク区間内の信号波形の運 動量を求めて記憶する。 そして 、 払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 払拭を行 う度にマス ク区間内の信号波形の運動量を求め、 記憶されている運 動量と対比して雨滴の検出を行 。 具体的には、 ゆらぎの長さ, 増 減の変化回数, 増減の変化量などが、 卜 ンネノレ内の 動量よ り も所 定量上回るか否かを基準と して判断し、 所定量上回る場合には、 雨 滴の付着と して検出してもよい。 また、 ト ンネル内の運動量よ り も 上回る量にしたがって、 払拭状態を決定してもよい。
他の雨滴の検出方法を説明する。 他の雨滴の検出方法と しては、 マスク区間内の信号波形において、 少なく と あ上記の A および C の区間に所定の運動量が検出されているこ とを条件と して雨滴の付 着を検出するよ うにする とよい。
卜ンネル脱出時においては、 車輛のル一フ等から水が垂れてく る 現象 (以下 「垂れ水」 という) が観察され · - る とがある。 このよ う な垂れ水は、 一時的なものであることが多いため、 降雨の場合のよ う に連続的な払拭を継続する必要がない。 図 1 8 に、 垂れ水が検知 面を通過する際の受光素子出力信号の波形モ Τルを示す。 垂れ水が 検知面を通過する際の信号波形については 、 A の区間のみにおいて 信号波形に大きな運動が現われる という知見が得られた。
したがって、 上述したよ う に、 少なく と ち上記の A . および の 区間に運動量が検出されているこ とを条件と して雨滴の付着を検出 する と、 垂れ水のケースを除外するこ とがでさ、 ハ、、用な連続払拭を 防止するこ とができる。
具体的な処理と しては 、 払拭状態制御部 4 2が 、 車輛が一定の降 雨状況から トンネルのよ う な降雨遮断環 へ進入したという走行シ ーンを判別する。 次に、 払拭状態制御部 4 2は、 マスク区間内の信 号波形を対象と して、 A および C の区間に運動量が発生するか判 断する。 そして、 A および C の区間に運動量が発生した場合には 雨滴の付着を検出し、 当該運動量に応じて払拭状態を決定する。
このよ う に、 本発明の第 3の実施の形態においては、 マスク区間 終了後の出力信号に変化が出にく い降雨状況であっても、 マスク区 間内の受光素子の出力信号を対象とするこ とによ り 、 雨滴の付着を 確実に検出するこ とができる。 また、 マスク区間内の受光'素子の出 力信号を対象とするこ とによ り 、 マスク区間終了後に検出処理を開 始する場合に比べて、 よ り迅速に払拭を実現することができる。
なお、 第 3 の実施の形態においては、 トンネル脱出から一定時間 が経過したというイベン トを検出し、 マスク区間内の受光素子出力 信号を、 雨滴検出の対象から除外する処理をおこなってもよい。
(第 4の実施の形態)
本発明の第 4の実施の形態に係るワイパー制御装置の構成を、 図 2 0を参照して説明する。 図 2 0は、 本発明の第 4の実施の形態に 係るワイパー制御装置の構成をレイヤ構造で説明するブロ ック図で ある。 図 2 0 において、 本発明の第 4の実施の形態に係るワイパー 制御装置は、 3つの層 (Layer) の構成によって表すこ とができ、 それぞれの層間にて、 例えば S A P (サービス · アクセス · ポイン ト) のよ う な共通インターフェースを介してデータまたは信号が通 信されている。 第 1層にレイ ンセンサ物理層 1 9 0 と、 車輛制御コ ンピュータまたはワイパーモータ 1 1 0 0 とが含まれ、 第 2層 雨 滴検出部 1 2 2 と、 ワイパーによって集められる水の量の検出部 1 2 4 と、 イ ンターフェース 1 2 6 とが含まれ、 第 3層に払拭状態制 御部 1 3 2 と、 ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4 とが含まれる。 なお、 こ れらの各部は、 ソフ トウエアによって実現することができる。
レイ ンセンサ物理層 1 9 0は、 光学機構と回路とによって構成さ れ、 例えば、 発光素子からの光を検知面で反射させ、 反射光を受光 素子で受光する方式の光学機構と、 受光素子出力を処理するフィル タ回路, 増幅回路, A Z D コンバータ等の回路とで構成される。 こ のよ う なレイ ンセンサの例は、 特開 2 0 0 1 — 1 8 0 4 4 7号公報 およぴ特開 2 0 0 2 - 2 7 7 3 8 6号公報に開示されている。
光学機構について図 2 1 を用いて説明する。 図 2 1 は、 光学機構 の構成を説明する構成図である。 図 2 1 に示すよ う に、 例えば L E D等の発光素子 1 0から発せられた光は、 プリ ズムガラス 1 1等を 通じて、 水滴の検出を行うべき透明性基板であるガラス基板 (ウイ ンドシールドガラス) 2 に導かれる。 導かれた光は、 検出対象面 3 にて全反射し、 前記プリ ズムガラス 1 1 を通じて、 例えばフォ トダ ィオー ド等の受光素子 1 2に入射する。 この図の光学機構では、 水 滴等の付着のない状態で、 受光素子には最大の出力が発生するよ う に配置構成されている。 このとき、 検知面に水滴等の付着 1 3があ ると、 受光素子の出力は低下する。
次に、 ウィ ン ドシール ドガラス上の検知面の位置について、 図 2 2を参照して説明する。 ここで、 図 2 2は、 ウィ ン ドシールドガラ ス上の検知面およびワイパー制御装置の設置位置を示す図である。 図 2 2に示すよ う に、 ワイパー制御装置 1 は、 ウィ ン ドシール ドガ ラス 2の外面の一部を検知面 3 と し、 自動車のウイ ン ドシールドガ ラス 2の車内側に図示しない接着剤等によって取り付けられている。 また、 ワイパー制御装置 1.の設置位置は、 設定検知面 3が、 一方の ワイパー 5 b の払拭動作範囲内で、 かつ他方のワイパー 5 a の私拭 動作範囲外に位置するよ うに配置される。
車輛制御コンピュータまたはワイパーモータ 1 1 0 0は、 本発明 のワイパー制御装置に接続されるものであり 、 本発明の実施態様に 従って適宜選択可能である。 車輛制御コンピュータが接続される場 合には、 車輛制御コンピュータを介してワイパーモータが制御され る。 ワイパーモータが接続される場合には、 ワイパーモータが直接 制御される。
雨滴検出部 1 2 2は、 レイ ンセンサの受光素子出力信号に基づい て雨滴を検出する。 雨滴の検出方法と しては、 本発明者等によって 開示された、 雨滴の動的な付着を検出する方法 (特開 2 0 0 1 — 1 8 0 4 .4 7号公報) 、 受光素子出力信号のゆらぎを評価する方法 (特開 2 0 0 2— 2 7 7 3 8 6号公報) を用いるこ とができる。 ま た、 雨滴の検出方法と しては、 特開昭 6 1 — 3 7 5 6 0号公報に開 示された基準値との比較によ り雨滴を検出する方法 (いわゆる閾値 法) 、 特開平 4 一 3 4 9 0 5 3号公報に開示された受光素子出力の 積算値によ り雨滴を検出する方法 (いわゆる積分法) を用いるこ と もできる。
ワイパーによって集められる水の量の検出部 1 2 4は、 ワイパー の払拭動作に伴いワイパープレー ドによって運ばれて検知面を通過 する水の量 (通過水量) を検出する。 そして、 イ ンターフェース 1 2 6 は、 上位層 (第 3層) からのワイパー駆動信号を、 車輛制御コ ンピュータまたはワイパーモータそれぞれに適合する形式の信号に 変換して出力する。
払拭状態制御部 1 3 2 は、 雨滴検出部 1 2 2 の出力に基づいて、 ワイパーの払拭状態を制御する。 ワイパーの払拭状態は、 例えば、 停止状態, 間欠払拭状態, 低速連続払拭状態, 高速連続払拭状態を 含む。 ワイパーの払拭状態は、 払拭待機時間と払拭速度とによって 定義される。 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 これらの払拭状態を決定し、 所定の払拭待機時間かつ所定の払拭速度のワイパー駆動信号を出力 する。
ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4は、 ワイパーによって集められる水の 量の検出部 1 2 4の出力と雨滴検出部 1 2 2の出力とに基づいて、 ワイパーの払拭を停止させる制御を行う。 具体的には、 通過水量が 所定の閾値以上であるか否か判定し、 通過水暈が所定の閾値以上で あり、 かつ雨滴検出部 1 2 2によって雨滴が検出されない場合には、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2からのワイパ一駆動信号をマスクする。 一方、 この条件に該当 しない場合には、 ワイパー駆動信号を透過させる。 ワイパー駆動信号は、 イ ンターフェース 1 2 6 を介して車輛制御コ ンピュータまたはワイパーモータ 1 1 0 0へ出力される。
こ の実施の形態において特徴的なこ とは、 私拭状態制御部 1 3 2 が雨滴検出部 1 2 2の出力に基づいて独立に払拭状態を決定してお り 、 一方で、 ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4が雨滴検出部 1 2 2の出力 と通過水量とに基づいて独立に停止制御を行っていることである。 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 降雨状態に合わせて、 停止状態, 間欠 払拭状態, 低速連続払拭状態, 高速連続払拭状態の間で払拭状態を 遷移させる (間欠払拭が複数のステップに分かれている場合にはそ れぞれのステップ間も遷移する) 。 これらそれぞれの払拭状態の間 を遷移させる際には、 一定の予備的な払拭期間または予備的な払拭 回数を設けることが好ま しい。 なぜなら、 検知面の設置位置おょぴ 小さい検知面に起因して、 雨滴の付着確率に限界があり 、 これを補 償する必要があるからである。 払拭状態は、 払拭待機時間ど払拭速 度と によって段階的に定義される。 そ して、 払拭待機時間はゼロ (すなわち待機時間なし) も含む。 例えば、 払拭待機時間が長く な れば間欠時間が長く なり 、'払拭待機時間がゼロになれば連続払拭と なる。
ワイ パー停止制御部 1 3 4 は、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2 の払拭状態 とは無関係にワイパー駆動信号をマスクする。 したがって、 払拭状 態に含まれる停止状態とは別に、 一時的な停止状態を作り出すこと ができる。 一方、 ワイパー駆動信号がマス ク された場合であっても、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2ほ有効に機能しているので、 雨滴の検出があ ればそれに合わせて払拭状態を決定し、 所定のワイパー駆動信号を 出力するこ とができる。
(払拭状態の制御)
払拭状態の制御について、 よ り具体的に説明する。 まず、 雨滴検 出部 1 2 2は、 雨滴の検出方法と して、 雨滴の動的な付着を検出す る方法 (特開 2 0 0 1 — 1 8 0 4 4 7号公報) 、 受光素子出力信号 のゆらぎを評価する方法 (特開 2 0 0 2 - 2 7 7 3 8 6号公報) を 用いる。
本発明者等によつて開不 れた雨滴の動的な付着を検出する方法
(特開 2 0 0 1 — 1 8 0 4 4 7号公報 ) は 、 受光素子からの信号か ら遅れ信号を生成し 、 受光素子力 らの 口
信 と遅れ信号の差分を求め 差分が発生したと きヽ 検知面に水滴の衝突があつたと判断するもの である。 あるいは 、 受光素子からの信号の 1次遅れ信号を生成し、
1次遅れ信号から 2次遅れ信号を生成し 、 1次遅れ信号と 2次遅れ 信号の差分を求め 、 差分が発生したとき 、 検知面に水滴の衝突があ つたと判断するものでめる。 この方法によ り 、 雨滴等の動的な付着 そのものを捕らえる - とができる。
したがって、 雨滴検出部 1 2 2は、 検知面へ雨滴が衝突した事象 を検出し、 雨滴の付着と して出力する。
払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 雨滴の付着に基づいて雨滴の付着周期 を判断し、 これに基づいてワイパーの払拭状態を決定する。 例えば、 長い付着周期が検出された場合には、 長い間欠時間を払拭状態と し て決定する。 そして、 付着周期が短く なつていく にしたがって、 間 欠時間を短く していく。 また、 上述したよ う に、 付着周期が変わつ た場合には、 一定の予備的な払拭期間または予備的な払拭回数が終 了するまで現在の間欠時間を維持し、 その後で間欠時間を変更する。
一方、 本発明者等の考察によ り、 自然界の雨滴粒径は様々であり、 大き く なればなるほど短時間で視界が妨げられやすいこ とが確^さ れている。 したがって、 たとえ同一の付着周期であっても、 雨滴の 粒径が大きい場合には、 よ り短時間で払拭するこ とが好ま しい。 し たがって、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 付着周期の他に、 付着した雨 滴の大き さも加味して払拭状態を決定する。 雨滴の大き さを推定す る方法を以下に示す。
雨滴の大き さの推定は、 本発明者等によって開示された特開 2 0 0 2 — 2 7 7 3 8 6号公報を用いる。 この方法は、 検知面上に付着 した付着物を通して得た受光素子の信号の動的なゆらぎによって間 接的に付着物の動的なゆらぎを検出する とができ、 さ らに、 その 信号のゆらぎの変化パターンによつて間接的に付着物の物性によ り 決まる付着物のゆらぎの変化パタ ―ン-を検出し、 付着物が何である か、 付着物がどのよ う な状態であるかを判断するこ とができる方法 であ •O o
上記判断に用いる信号のゆらぎの変化パターンを、 上記信号の らぎの時間の変化パターンとするこ とがでさ 、 信号のゆらぎの長さ によつて間接的に付着物のゆらぎの長ざを検出するこ とができる ο 例えば、 付着物を雨滴とする と、 その物性と して雨滴が大きいほど ゆらぎが長く持続するので、 検出したゆらぎの長さから雨滴の大 さを推定することができる。
また、 上記判断に用いる信号のゆらぎの変化パターンを、 上記信 号のゆらぎの大きさの変化パターンとすることができ 、 信号のゆら ぎの大き さによつて間接的に付着物のゆらぎの大さ さを検出するこ とがでさる ο 例えばヽ 付着物を雨滴とすると、 その物性と して雨滴 が大きいほどゆらぎが大きいので、 検出したゆらぎの大ささから雨 滴の大ささを推定する 、 とができる 。 なお、 ゆらぎの大ささを表す パラメ タ と しては 、 ゆらぎ内の増減の変化回数 , 増加の変化量, 変化の増減の方向が含まれる。
したがって、 雨滴検出部 1 2 2は、 信号のゆらぎの変ィ匕パターン を検出して出力する。 具体的には、 信号のゆらぎの長さ, 信号 ゆ らぎ内の増減の変化回数, 増加の変化量, 変化の増減の方向などを 出力する。
また、 信号のゆらぎの大き さの変化パターンと信号のゆらぎの長 さの変化パターンと を含む信号のゆらぎの変化の諸特性と雨滴の大 き さ との対応関係を実験的に求めておき、 これをテーブルと してメ モリ に記憶しておく。 そして、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 このテー ブルに基づいて、 検出された信号のゆらぎの変化パターンから雨滴 の大きさを判断する。 さ らに、 雨滴の大き さの判断に加えて、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 ウイ ン ドシール ドガラスに対する雨滴の当たり方の強さを判別して、 激しい雨の状況か否かを識別し、 払拭状態を決定してもよい。 本発 明者等は、 ウィ ン ドシール ドガラスへの雨滴の当た り方によって雨 滴の付着後の運動量が変化するという知見を得た。 具体的には、 ゥ ィ ン ドシールドガラスへの雨滴の当たり方が強く なればなるほど、 付着後の雨滴の運動量が大きく なるという知見を得た。
こ こでいう雨滴の運動量とは、 信号のゆらぎの長さ と大きさ とに よって表すこ とができる。 ゆらぎの長さ とは、 雨滴が付着した後、 ゆらぎの大きさが所定の大き さに減衰するまでの時間である。 一方、 ゆらぎの大き さは、 ゆらぎ内の増減の変化回数, 増加の変化量, 増 減の方向等のパラメータによって表される。
具体的に説明すると、 雨滴の当たり方が強く なる と、 ゆらぎの長 さが長く なり、 ゆらぎの大き さが大き く なる。 ゆらぎの大きさが大 き く なるとは、 増減の変化回数, 増加の変化量が多く な.り、 変化の 増減の方向に減少が現れる というパラメータによって表すことがで きる。
例えば、 2つの南滴の大き さが同一であれば、 付着時における信 号の滅少方向への変化量は同一となる。 しかし、 よ り大きい運動ェ ネルギーを有する雨滴においては、 付着後の増減の変化回数, 増加 の変化量がよ り 多く なり 、 ゆらぎの長さがよ り長く なる。 このよ う な知見によ り、 雨滴の当たり方の強さ と、 信号のゆらぎの長さ と大 き さ とで特徴づけられる信号のゆらぎの変化パターンとを関連付け ることができる。
さ らに、 雨滴の当たり方と信号のゆらぎの変化パターンとの対応 関係を求めておき、 これを基準と してテーブル化するこ とができる。 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 このよ う なテーブルを用いて、 雨滴検出 部 1 2 2からの信号のゆらぎを評価して、 雨滴の当たり方の強さを 判断する。 (払拭状態の他の決定方法)
例えば、 単位時間当たり の雨滴の付着個数または付着の連続性と、 付着した雨滴の大きさ と、 雨滴の当た.り方とをパラメータ と して用 いることによ り、 降雨状況を詳細に分類することができる。
払拭状態制御部 1 3 2 は、 このよ う な単位時間当たり の雨滴の付 個数または付着の連続性と、 付着した雨滴の大きさ と、 雨滴の当 た り方とを含むパラメータを雨滴検出部 1 2 2の出力から判断し、 これらのパラメータを用いて現在の降雨状況を詳細に区別し、 それ ぞれの降雨状況に対して設定されている払拭状態を選択する。
降雨状態とそれに対応する払拭状態とが設定されたテーブルの例 を図 2 3 に示す。 図 2 3 においては、 降雨状態が複数のレベルに分 けられており、 それぞれのレベルに対応する払拭状態が設定されて いる。 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 上記のパラメータを用いて降雨状 況がどのレベルに該当するか判断し、 該当する レベルの払拭状態を 選択する。 あるいは、 現在の払拭状態から選択された払拭状態へ向 かって払拭状態を段階的に遷移させる。
例えば、 ゆらぎが大き く長いという こ とは一般に雨粒が大き く 、 強い雨が降っていることを意味するので、 その場合は間欠時間をよ り短くすると力 、 ワイパーの駆動速度を速くするなどの制御を行う と よい。
—方、 ゆらぎが小さ く短いという こ とは一般に雨粒が小さ く 、 弱 い雨が降っていることを意味するので、 その場合は間欠時間をよ り 長くする とか、 ワイパーの駆動速度を遅くするなどの制御を行う と よい。
次に、 本発明の第 4の実施の形態に係るワイパー制御装置の動作 を、 図 2 4〜 2 6 を参照して説明する。 図 2 4および 2 5 は、 本発 明の第 4の実施の形態に係るワイパー制御装置の動作を説明するフ ローチャー トであり、 図 2 6 は、 検出区間を説明する概念図である。
図 2 4 に示すよ う に、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2 は、 まずステップ 1 2 2において、 単位検出区間内の雨滴検出部 1 2 2の出力を取得す る。 単位検出区間は、 例えば、 図 2 6 に示すよ う にワイパーの待機 時間 T とそれに続く ワイパー動作時間 (A/S ON) との組み合わせ からなる。 ワイパー動作時間においては、 ワイパープレー ドが検知 面を通過する時の信号変化は非常に大きいので、 ワイパーブレー ド 通過時は検出信号がマスク される。
次に、 ステップ 1 2 4において、 払拭状態を決定する。 具体的に は、 現在の払拭状態を認識し、 雨滴検出部 1 2 2の出力に基づいて 必要な払拭状態に遷移する。 例えば、 停止状態から間欠払拭状態へ 遷移する, あるいは低速連続払拭状態から間欠払拭状態へ遷移する。
次に、 ステップ 1 2 6 において、 所定の払拭待機時間ごとに、 所 定の払拭速度のワイパー (W P ) 駆動信号を出力する。
一方、 図 2 5 に示すよ う に、 ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4は、 まず ステップ 1 3 2において、 単位検出区間内の通過水量を取得する。 図 2 6 においては、 検出マスク区間内にワイパープレー ドが検知面 を通過するので、 この区間内に通過水量が検出される。 通過水量は、 検出マスク区間内の信号変化のピーク値とするこ とができる。
次に、 ステップ 1. 3 '4において、 検出された通過水量が所定の閾 値 t h以上か否か判断される。 通過水量が所定の閾値 th以上の場合 には、 ステップ 1 3 6 において、 単位検出区間内に雨滴が検出され たか否か判断し、 雨滴が検出されなかった場合には、 ステップ 1 3 8 に進んでワイパー駆動信号をマスクする。 一方、 ステップ 1 3 4 において、 検出された通過水量が所定の閾値 th 未満の場合、 ある いはステップ 1 3 6 において、 単位検出区間内に雨滴が検出さ.れた 場合には、 ステップ 1 4 0に進んでワイパー駆動信号を透過させる。
(適用例)
次に、 本実施の形態の適用例と して、 ある程度大きい粒径の雨が 連続して降っており 、 ワイパーも連続動作している降雨状況で、 車 輛が ト ンネルを通過するケースについて、 図 2 7 を用いて説明する。 図 2 7は、 本発明の適用例を説明する図である。
まず、 ト ンネル進入前においては、 雨滴検出部 1 2 2が雨滴を検 出し続けるので、 払拭状態制御部 1 3. 2 は、 例えば払拭状態を待機 時間 1秒の間欠払拭に決定する。 そして、 この間欠払拭に基づいて、 一定の周期でワイパー駆動信号 s を出力する。 次に、 トンネル進入 によって雨滴が検出されなく なるので、 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 払拭状態をよ り長い待機時間 ( 2秒) の間欠払拭状態へ遷移させ、 ワイパー駆動信号 s の出力周期が長く なる。 なお、 この例では、 所 定の予備払拭を行ってから間欠状態を遷移させている。 この後、 雨 滴が検出されない状態が継続する と、 払拭状態が停止状態に遷移す ること となる。 一方この例においては、 払拭状態が 2秒の間欠払拭 状態にある段階で車輛が ト ンネルを脱出し、 再度雨滴が検出される。 払拭状態制御部 1 3 2は、 払拭状態を 2秒の間欠払拭から 1秒の間 欠払拭へ遷移させる。
一方、 ワイパー停止制御部 1 . 3 4は、 ト ンネル進入前においては、 通過水量 ≥ 閾値 th であることを識別するが、 雨滴が検出されて いるので、 ワイパー駆動信号を透過させる。 次に、 ト ンネル進入に よって雨滴が検出されなく なり、 かつワイパープレー ドに垂れ水力 S 供給されるこ とによって通過水量 ≥ 閾値 th を判断するため、 ヮ ィパー停止制御部 1 3 4は、 ワイパー駆動信号をマスクする。 そし て、 ト ンネル脱出によって雨滴が再度検出されるので、 ワイパー停 止制御部 1 3 4は、 ワイパー駆動信号を透過させる。
このよ うな制御によ り、 受光素子の出力信号だけに基づいて、 ゥ イ ン ドシール ドガラスへの雨滴の付着量の急激な変化点を識別する ことができる。 また、 払拭状態を間欠払拭状態に維持したままでヮ ィパー駆動信号の出力をス トップするこ とができるため、 あま り長 く ない トンネルでは、 通過前後で、 払拭→停止→払拭という動作を スムーズに作り 出すことができる。
(第 5の実施の形態) 次に、 本発明の第 5 の実施の形態と してポイ ン ト値を利用した制 御処理を例示する。 こ こ .で、 図 2 8は、 制御処理の流れを説明する フローチャー トであ り 、 図 2 9は、 ワイパー動作信号と通過水量検 出タイ ミ ングとの関係を説明する図であり 、 図 3 0は、 通過水量と 待機時間とボイン ト値との関係を説明する図である。
図 2 8に示すよ う に、 ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4は、 ワイパーが 原点位置に復帰したタイ ミ ングで起動し、 当該払拭で検出された通 過水量をカウンタに積算する (ステップ 3 0 1 ) 。 なお、 ここでは、 実際の通過水量そのものを積算する形式は取らない。 通過水量の値 と しては、 実際の通過水量と、 ワイパーの待機時間との組み合せに よって決定される所定のポイン ト値が用いられる。 以下このポイ ン ト値について説明する。
図 2 9 ( A ) に示すよ う に、 ワイパーは、 動作信号が ONの期間 (動作期間) に動作し、 動作信号が OFF の期間 (待機期間) に待 機状態となる。 図 2 9 では、 動作期間は OP l, OP2 , OP3 と して 示され、 待機期間は Wl, W2 , W3 と して示される。 なお、 Wl, W2 , W3 のそれぞれは、 異なる長さの期間 (W1 く W2 < W3 ) である とする。 図 2 9 ( B ) に示されるよ う に、 通過水量は、 動作 期間内の信号から検出される。
ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4は、 通過水量が検出されると、 当該通 過水量が検出された動作期間の直前の待機期間を参照する。 そして 通過水量の値と待機期間の長さ との組み合せからポイン ト値を決定 する。 具体的には、 例えば図 3 0のよ う なマ ト リ ッ クスを用いて決 定する。 図 3 0のマ ト リ ックスにおいては、 ポイ ン ト値は、 通過水 量の増加に比例して増加し、 待機期間の増加に反比例して減少する よ うに配置されている。
一例と して、 最初の動作期間 OP 1 内で th 1 の水量が得られたと する。 OP 1の直前の待機期間は W1である。 W1 と th 1 とを図 3 0 のマ ト リ ッタスに当てはめることによ り 、 ポイ ン ト値 6が得られる。 このよ うにして得られた、 ポイン ト値 6 をカ ウンタに積算する。 例 えば、 前回のポイン トがカ ウンタに残っていれば、 これに積算する, このよ う に構成されたボイ ン ト値を利.用するこ とによ り 、 待機時間 の変化による影響を、 検出された通過水量から取り除く ことができ る。
次に、 ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4は、 検知面への雨滴の'付着が雨 滴検出部 1 2 2によって検出されたか否か判断する (ステップ 3 0 2 ) 。 なお、 雨滴付着の検出は、 上述したよ う な方法で行われ、 検 出結果が所定のメモリ に格納されている とする。
雨滴の付着が検出された場合には、 ポイ ン ト値が積算されたカウ ンタをゼロにク リ アする (ステップ 3 0 3 ) 。 あるいは、 カウンタ を指定値にリセッ トする。
次に、 ワイパー停止制御部 1 3 4は、 カ ウンタの値が閾値 Wt 以 上か否か判断する (ステ ップ 3 0 4 ) 。 こ こで、 カ ウンタの値が閾 値 Wt未満の場合とは、 カウンタの積算値 (上記の例では 6ポイン ト) 自体が閾値 Wt よ り も小さい場合と、 上記のステップ 3 0 3で カウンタがク リ アされた場合とを含む。
そして、 ステップ 3 0 4において、 カ ウンタの値が閾値 Wt以上 の場合には、 ワイパーの駆動信号をマスク し (ステップ 3 0 5 ) 、 カ ウンタの値が閾値 Wt 未満の場合には、 ワイパー駆動信号を透過 させる (ステップ 3 0 6 ) 。 なお、 ステップ 3 0 4 において、 カウ ンタの値が閾値 Wt 以上の場合とは、 通過水量が一定以上であるに もかかわらず、 雨滴の付着が検出されない場合を意味する。
この実施の形態によれば、 少ない c P U負荷おょぴ少ないメモリ 容量を用いて本発明を実施することが可能となる。
(第 6の実施の形態)
次に、 本発明の第 6 の実施の形態について説明する。 本発明の第 6 の実施の形態は、 払拭停止のタイ ミ ングを制御するものである。 本発明者等の考察によ り 、 雨滴の付着が検出されないこ とを前提に ワイパーの払拭を停止させる場合において、 払拭をある程度継続さ せた上で止めるこ とが好ま しいケースと、 払拭を迅速に停止させる ことが好ましいケースとがあることが分かった。
例えば、 上述したよ うな トンネル進入時においては、 複数回の払 拭を行ってから停止させるのが好ま しい。 一方、 微小なまさあげが 一時的に少量付着した場合には、 1 回の払拭で迅速に停止させる とが好ま しい。 さ らに、 所定量の通過水量が検出された場 a に 、 検 知面の付着確率の限界によ り、 当該通過水量が降雨によるちのか 、 あるいは他の要因によるものか判断が困難な状況が生じるこ とがあ る。 このよ う な状況では、 払拭を継続させ、 本当に降雨によるちの でないことを保証してから払拭を停止させるこ とが好ましい。
. したがって、 本発明の第 6の実施の形態においては、 通過水量の 値にしたがって、 付着のない状態を検出 してから払拭を停止する
(マスクする) までのタイ ミ ングを制御するよ う にした。 具体的に は、 通過水量の値にしたがって、 上述したポイ ン ト値を調整するこ とによって払拭停止までの払拭回数を制御するよ う にした。
図 3 1 、 3 2 を用いて具体的に説明する。 図 3 1 は、 ワイパー待 機時間が T の時の通過水量とポイ ン ト との関係を説明する概念図 であり 、 図 3 2は 、 雨滴によるウィ ン ド、シール ドの被覆率を説明す る概念図である 図 3 1 においては、 通過水量の値によって、 割当 てられるボイ ン 卜値が変更されている このよ う に、 検出された 1 回の通過水量に割当てるボイ ン ト値を X.るこ とによって W P駆動 信号をマスクするまでに必要な払拭回数 (検出回数) を制御するこ とができる。
例えば、 Nの帯域においては、 最大のポイ ン トが設定されている 例えばこの最大ポイ ン ト値を閾値 Wt 以上とするこ とによって 1 回 の検出でワイパーを停止させるこ とができる。 例えば図 2 8 のフロ 一においては、 1 回の判断で Wt 以上となるので、 即時にワイパー 駆動信号がマスク されるこ と となる。 一方、 Mの帯域においては最 小のポイン トが設定されている。 この最小ポイ ン トの場合は、 複数 回積算されてはじめて Wt に到達するので、 複数回の払拭が継続さ れるこ と となる。 なお、 感度ボリ ゥムなどによって感度調整が行わ れている場合には、 これに合わせて閾値 Wt を変動させるこ とが好 ま しい。
図 3 1 のそれぞれの帯域について説明する。 Nの帯域に いての 通過水量は 、 雨滴の付着に Ό 3^過水量か、 ヮィパープレ一ド、の ½ れによるものか判定できない値と して 、 即時にワイパ一駆動信号を マスクする 。 これは、 雨の付着がめつたと しても非常に微里と判断 でき、 間欠作動の必要性はないと判定できるためである。
次に 、 Pの帯域においては、 当該ワイパー待機時間中では雨滴の 付着が発生しないと思われる通過水量の検出であり 、 数回の払拭が 保証され 、 数回の払拭の間に雨滴の付着がない場合は、 降雨が弱ま つ' ヽ または無く なつたのが原因と判断される。 また、 Mの帯域に おいてはヽ 停止性よ り も継続性が重視され、 最大の払拭回数が保証 される o この帯域は、 一定の降雨であつても付着が検出されにく い 通過水量の検出であるため、 付着が検出されない状態が長く続いた 後にはじめて 、 降雨によるものでないと判断するのが適切だからで め Ο。
次に 、 Qの帯域においては、 当該ワイパー待機時間中に雨滴の付 着が発生する可能性が高いと思われるだけの通過水量の検出が り 、 数回の払拭が保証され、 数回の間に雨滴の付着がない場合は、 降雨 が原因でない通過水量と判断される。 最後に、 Lの帯域においては、 当該ワイパー待機時間中に雨滴の付着が発生してもよいと思われる だけの通過水量の検出があり 、 数回の払拭が保証され、 数回の間に 雨滴の付着がない場合は、 降雨が原因でない通過水量と判断される。
図 3 1 においては、 待機時間 T についての関係を説明した。 理 想的には、 どの待機時間においても上記関係は固定化される と思わ れる。 これは、 図 3 2のグラフが示すよ う に、 待機時間が変動した 場合であっても、 ドライパーが払拭したいと思う被覆率は一定とな るこ とが予測されるからである。 また、 被覆率が一定である場合に おいては、 ウイ ン ドシール ド上の雨滴の量は一定であるので、 これ を集めた通過水量の値も一定になるためである。
しかしながら、 降雨量が多い (待機時間が短い) 程、 Lの帯域が 大き く 取れる。 というのは、 降雨量が多い場合は被覆量が'大きいた め、 ワイパーがかき集めた水が検知面上を通過する確率が高く な り 、 逆に、 降雨量が少ない場合は被覆量が小さいため、 ワイパーがかき 集めた水が検知面上を通過する確率も低く なるからである。
以上のよ う に、 本発明の第 6の実施の形態によれば、 降雨状況に 合わせて、 適切なタイ ミ ングでワイパーを停止させるこ とができる。 産業上の利用の可能性
以上説明したよ う に、 本発明によれば、 降雨状況の変化にスムー ズに対応することができる。 また、 ト ンネル内のよ う な降雨遮断環 境の通過時において降雨状況の急激な変化にスムーズに対応するこ とができる。
また、 以上説明したよ う に、 本発明によれば、 ワイパーの払拭を 降雨状況の変化に適切に追従させるこ とができる。 特に、 トンネル 突入時には、 ワイ パーの払拭を短時間で停止させるこ とができ、 ト ンネル脱出時には、 払拭頻度を短時間で適切なレベルまで上げ こ とができる。

降雨レベルが、 所定時間内に、 所定の閾値以上の降雨レベルから 所定量落ち込み、 前記落ち込んだ状態が所定の期間継続したこ とに 基づいて、 前記車輛が降雨遮断環境へ進入したこ とを判別するステ ップを含む請求項 1 〜 3のいずれかに記載のワイパー制御方法。
5 . 発光素子から発せられた光を、 車輛のウィ ン ドシールドガラス のワイパー払拭領域の一部に設けられた検知面で反射させ、 前記反 射光を受光素子で受光して前記検知面の状態を検出することによ り 、 前記ワイパーの動作を制御する装置であって、
前記車輛が降雨遮断環境へ進入したこ と を判別し、 前記判別に応 答して、 所定の降雨レベル未満の低レベルの降雨に対して払拭レべ ルを下げる設定を行い、 所定の降雨レベル以上の高レベルの降雨に 対して払拭レベルを上げる設定を行う払拭状態制御部と、
雨滴の付着を検出して降雨レベルを決定する降雨レベル生成部と、 前記降雨レベル生成部によって決定された降雨レベルと 、 前記払 拭状態制御部によって設定された払拭レベルとに基づいて、 前記ヮ ィパーの動作を決定するワイ パー駆動信号生成部と、 を備えるワイ パー制御装置。
6 . 発光素子から発せられた光を、 車輛のウィ ン ドシールドガラス のワイパー払拭領域の一部に設けられた検知面で反射させ、 前記反 射光を受光素子で受光して前記検知面の状態を検出することによ り 、 前記ワイパーの動作を制御する装置であって、
前記車輛が降雨遮断環境へ進入したこ とを判別し、 前記判別に応 答して、 前記ワイパーの駆動区間内に含まれる前記受光素子の出力 信号の運動量に基づいて雨滴の付着を検出する払拭状態制御部を備 えるワイパー制御装置。
7 . 発光素子から発せられた光を、 車輛のウィ ン ドシールドガラス のワイパー払拭領域の一部に設けられた検知面で反射させ、 前記反 射光を受光素子で受光して前記検知面の状態を検出することによ り、 前記ワイパーの動作を制御する装置であって、
前記車輛が降雨遮断環境へ進入したこ とを判別し、 前記判別に応 答して、 前記車輛の走行速度が所定の閾値速度以上か判断する払拭 状態制御部と、
前記払拭状態制御部が前記車輛の走行速度が所定の閾値速度以上 . である と判断した場合には、 雨滴の検出感度を高くする感度制御部 と、 を備えるワイパー制御装置。
8 . 前記払拭状態制御部は、
降雨レベルが、 所定時間内に、 所定の閾値以上の降雨レベルから 所定量落ち込み、 前記落ち込んだ状態が所定の期間継続したことに 基づいて、 前記車輛が降雨遮断環境へ進入したこ とを判別する請求 項 5〜 7のいずれかに記載のワイパー制御装置。
9 . 発光素子から発せられた光を、 '車輛のウイ ン ドシールドガラス のワイパー払拭領域の一部に設けられた検知面で反射させ、 前記反 射光を受光素子で受光して前記検知面の状態を検出することによ り 、 前記ワイパーの動作を制御す.る方法であって、
( a ) 前記検知面への雨滴の付着を検出するステップと、
( b ) 前記検出された雨滴の付着に基づいて、 払拭待機時間と払 拭速度とによって定義される前記ワイパーの払拭状態を決定するス テツプと、
( c ) 前記ワイパーの払拭動作に伴い前記ワイパーのブレー ドに よって運ばれて前記検知面を通過する水の量を検出するステップと、
( d ) 前記検知面を通過する水の量が所定の閾値以上であり、 か つ、 前記検知面への雨滴の付着が検出されない場合には、 前記ワイ パーの払拭を停止させるステップと、 を含むワイパー制御方法。
1 0 . 前記ワイパーの動作は、 所定のワイパー駆動信号を介して制 御され、
前記ステップ ( d ) は、 前記所定のワイパー駆動信号をマスクす ることによって前記ワイパーの払拭を停止させる請求項 9に記載の ワイパー制御方法。
1 1 . 発光素子から発せられた光を、 車輛のウィ ン ドシールドガラ スのワイパー払拭領域の一部に設けられた検知面で反射させ、 前記 反射光を受光素子で受光して前記検知面の状態を検出することによ り 、 前記ワイパーの動作を制御する装置であって、 . 前記検知面への雨滴の付着を検出する雨滴検出部と、
前記検出された雨滴の付着に基づいて、 払拭待機時間と払拭速度 とによって定義される前記ワイパーの払拭状態を決定する払拭状態 制御部と、
前記ワイパーの払拭動作に伴い前記ワイパーのプレー ドによって 運ばれて前記検知面を通過する水の量が所定の閾値以上であり、 か つ、 前記検知面への雨滴の付着が検出されない場合には、 前記ワイ パーの払拭を停止させるワイパー停止制御部と、 を備えるワイパー 制御装置。
1 2 . 前記ワイパー制御装置は、 所定のワイパー駆動信号を介して 前記ワイパーの動作を制御し、
前記ワイパー停止制御部は、 前記所定のワイパー駆動信号をマス クするこ とによって前記ワイパーの払拭を停止させる請求'項 1 1 に 記載のワイパー制御装置。
