発明を実施するための最良の形態
[0011] 本発明の光学ガラス素子の製造方法においては、下型と上型との間で溶融ガラス をプレスするに際して、下型が有する成形面とその外側に配置される外周面との境 界領域と、ガラスとの間で空間を確保しながらプレスを行うことを特徴とする。成形面と 外周面との境界領域とは、図 4(A)の下型拡大断面図に示すように、下型 1の成形面 2における外周面 3との境界線を一端とした外縁領域 5および下型 1の外周面 3にお ける成形面 2との境界線を一端とした内縁領域 6の両方または片方を意味する。以下 、図面を用いて本発明を詳しく説明するが、図 1〜6中、共通の符号は同じ部材、面 、部分または領域を指すものとする。図 4(A)中、「4」は成形面 2における光学有効 領域を示す。
[0012] (第 1の実施形態)
本発明の第 1の実施形態においては、図 1(A)に示すように、下型 1における成形 面 2と外周面 3との境界領域と、ガラス 9との間で空間を 10を確保しながらプレスを行 う。詳しくは、成形面 2の外縁領域 5(詳しくは図 4(A)参照)および外周面 3の内縁領 域 6 (詳しくは図 4(A)参照)と、ガラス 9との間で、全周にわたって連続して空間 10を 確保しながらプレスを行う。プレス時に空間を確保でき、かつ本発明の目的を達成で きるメカニズムは以下の作用に基づくものと考えられる。すなわち、図 1 (B)に示すよう に下型 1に滴下された溶融ガラス 9は下型 1との接触部分 11から冷却される。そのた め、滴下溶融ガラス 9は成形面 2との非接触部分のうち、下型との接触部分に最も近 い部分、すなわち下型の成形面 2と外周面 3との境界に近い部分 (境界近傍部分) 1 2が、他の非接触部分よりも、冷却され易ぐガラスの流動性が低くなり易い。よって、 溶融ガラスを滴下後、所定時間保持すると、境界近傍部分 12の流動性は適度に低く なり、かつ他の非接触部分は比較的高い流動性を維持する。そこで、プレスを行うと 、境界近傍部分と他の非接触部分との流動性の差に基づいて、当該他の非接触部 分の変形に伴い、境界近傍部分 12がアーチを形成するように変形し、図 1 (A)に示 すような空間 10が形成される。そのように空間を確保しながらプレスを行うと、ガラス には、下型成形面が転写されるレンズ面と下型外周面が転写されるコバ面との境界 に空間由来の凹部 (溝)が形成される。本発明においては、そのような凹部が形成さ れるので、プレス時において、従来ではレンズ面とコバ面との境界に集中していた応 力が、当該凹部の表面全体に分散され、結果として割れやクラックの発生が抑制され るものと考えられる。またそのように割れやクラックの発生が抑制されると、金型がレン ズ部のガラス収縮に追随するようにガラスに圧力を有効に付与できるので、ガラスに 対して金型成形面を良好に転写できる。
プレス時に形成される空間 10の大きさは本発明の目的が達成される限り特に制限 されるものではなぐ通常は溶融ガラスの使用量に依存する。例えば、 10〜200mg の溶融ガラスを使用する場合、図 1 (A)において下型成形面 2と外周面 3との境界側 力も空間 10を見たときの空間の開口高さや奥行きはナノメーターからミリメーターォ ーダ一であってよい。
空間 10は下型成形面の光学有効領域 (詳しくは図 4 (A)参照)と接触して形成され ると、得られる素子の光学有効領域内に空間由来の凹部 (溝)が形成されることにな るので、空間が下型成形面の光学有効領域と接触しないように、ガラス使用量、光学 有効径、金型温度、ガラス粘性等を適宜設定すればよい。
なお、溶融ガラスの使用量は前記範囲内に限定されて解釈されるべきではなぐ本 発明にお 、て溶融ガラスの使用量は特に制限されるものではな!/、。
[0014] 図 1 (A)に示すような空間を確保しながら、プレス成形を行うためには、(1-1)プレス 直前のガラス形状、(1-2)プレスのタイミングおよび(1-3)プレス圧を以下に示すよう に制御する。
(1-1)プレス直前のガラス形状は、図 1 (B)に示すように下型成形面の外縁領域 5 が溶融ガラス 9と接触しないような形状であり、プレス直前においてそのような形状を 保持できるように、溶融ガラスを下型上に滴下させる。滴下時の各種条件は、プレス 直前において上記形状を確保できる限り、特に制限されるものではないが、上記形 状を確保するためには、例えば、滴下させる溶融ガラスの粘性、下型温度および下 型の濡れ性などを適宜調整することが有効である。
[0015] (la)滴下ガラスの粘性
滴下させる溶融ガラスの粘性力 、さすぎる (ガラス温度が高すぎる)と、下型にガラ スが貼り付き、下型の成形面-外周面境界領域にガラスが達し、ガラスにおける境界 部が先に形成されてしまうので、クラックの発生が頻発する。逆に滴下ガラスの粘性 が大きすぎると、プレスの途中でガラスが固化してしまい、割れが発生する。ノズル先 端力 滴下される溶融ガラスの粘度は、滴下量、ガラス種類に依存して決定されるた め、一概に規定できるものではない。例えば、ガラスが LaK8で滴下量が 10〜200m gのときで、通常は、 101〜101 poise、特に 103〜107poiseの範囲内で適宜選択され る。粘度は、回転粘度計の外筒回転式で測定された値を用いている(ISO 7884- 2 )。詳しくは、るつぼ又は外筒を一定速度で回転し、るつぼとスピンドルの間の角速度 の差によって発生するトルクを測定する。
[0016] (lb)下型温度
下型温度が高すぎると下型にガラスが貼り付き、下型の成形面一外周面境界領域 にガラスが達し、ガラスにおける境界部が先に形成されてしまうので、クラックの発生 が頻発する。逆に下型温度が低すぎると、ガラスが急激に冷却 '固化し、プレスの途 中で割れが発生する。下型温度はガラスの種類、滴下量に依存して決定されるため 、一概に規定できるものではない。例えば、ガラスが LaK8であり、滴下量が 10〜20 Omgのときで、通常は、 300〜700。C、特に 400〜600。Cの範囲内で適宜選択され る。
[0017] (lc)下型の濡れ性
下型の濡れ性とはガラスに対する濡れ易さであり、当該濡れ性が良すぎると、下型 にガラスが貼り付き、下型の成形面-外周面境界領域にガラスが達し、ガラスにおけ る境界部が先に形成されてしまう。下型成形面の濡れ性は表面粗さで RalOnm以上 、特に RalO〜50nmの範囲内で適宜選択される。下型の外周面および上型のガラ スとの接触面もまた上記と同様の濡れ性を有することが好ましい。表面粗さ ίお IS BO 601— 1994【こ基づく値を用!ヽて!ヽる。
[0018] (1-2)プレスのタイミングとは、溶融ガラスを下型で受けてから、下型および上型で プレスを開始するまでの待ち時間である。本実施形態において待ち時間は、プレス 時において成形面 2の外縁領域 5および外周面 3の内縁領域 6とガラスとの間に空間 が形成される程度の広さの境界近傍部分 12 (図 1 (B)参照)が適度な流動性低下を 引き起こす時間である。待ち時間が短すぎると、プレス直前のガラス形状が上記のよ うに確保できて 、ても、境界近傍部分 12の流動性低下が十分に起こって 、な 、ので 、ガラスが下型の成形面一外周面境界領域に達し、ガラスにおける境界部が先に形 成されてしまう。よって、クラックの発生が頻発する。待ち時間が長すぎると、ガラス全 体の流動性が低下しすぎるので、金型成形面をガラスに転写することが困難となる。 待ち時間は、ガラスの種類、滴下量、下型温度に依存して決定されるため、一概に規 定できるものではない。例えば、ガラスが LaK8であり、滴下量が 10〜200mgであり 、下型温度が上記範囲内のときで、通常は、 3〜10秒、特に 5〜10秒の範囲内で適 宜選択される。
[0019] (1-3)プレス圧は、空間を確保しつつも、金型成形面を良好に転写できる範囲内に 適宜設定される。そのようなプレス圧範囲はガラスの粘度に依存するため、一概に規 定できるものではない。例えば、ガラスの粘度が上記範囲内のときで、通常は、 10〜 lOOkg/cm2,特に 10〜50kgZcm2の範囲内で適宜選択される。
[0020] 図 1 (A)において上型のガラスとの接触面は平面形状を有している力 これに限定 されるものではなぐ例えば、凹面形状または凸面形状を有していてもよい。
[0021] (第 2の実施形態) 本発明の第 2の実施形態においては、図 2 (A)に示すように、下型 1における成形 面 2と外周面 3との境界領域と、ガラス 9との間で空間 20を確保しながらプレスを行う。 詳しくは、外周面 3の内縁領域 6 (詳しくは図 4 (A)参照)と、ガラス 9との間で、全周に わたって連続して空間 20を確保しながらプレスを行う。第 2実施形態は、外周面 3の 内縁領域 6と、ガラス 9との間で空間 20を確保しながらプレスを行うこと以外、第 1実 施形態と同様である。すなわち、プレス時において空間を確保でき、本発明の目的を 達成できるメカニズム等は第 1実施形態にお 、てと同様である。
[0022] 図 2 (A)に示すような空間を確保しながら、プレス成形を行うためには、(2-1)プレス 直前のガラス形状、(2-2)プレスのタイミングおよび (2-3)プレス圧を以下に示すよう に制御する。
(2-1)プレス直前のガラス形状は、例えば、図 2 (B)に示すように下型外周面の内 縁領域 6が溶融ガラス 9と接触しないような形状であり、プレス直前においてそのよう な形状を保持できるように、溶融ガラスを下型上に滴下させる。図 1 (B)に示すように 下型成形面の外縁領域 5が溶融ガラス 9と接触しな 、ような形状であってもよ!/、。滴 下時の各種条件は、プレス直前において上記形状を確保できる限り、特に制限され るものではないが、上記形状を確保するためには、例えば、滴下させる溶融ガラスの 粘性、下型温度および下型の濡れ性などを、第 1実施形態と同様の範囲内で適宜調 整することが有効である。
(2-2)プレスのタイミングおよび (2- 3)プレス圧は、第 1実施形態においてと同様の 範囲内で適宜選択されればよい。
[0023] (第 3の実施形態)
本発明の第 3の実施形態においては、図 3 (A)に示すように、下型 1における成形 面 2と外周面 3との境界領域と、ガラス 9との間で空間 30を確保しながらプレスを行う。 詳しくは、成形面 2の外縁領域 5 (詳しくは図 4 (A)参照)と、ガラス 9との間で、全周に わたって連続して空間 30を確保しながらプレスを行う。第 3実施形態は、成形面 2の 外縁領域 5と、ガラス 9との間で空間 30を確保しながらプレスを行うこと以外、第 1実 施形態と同様である。すなわち、プレス時において空間を確保でき、本発明の目的を 達成できるメカニズム等は第 1実施形態にお 、てと同様である。 [0024] 03 (A)に示すような空間を確保しながら、プレス成形を行うためには、(3-1)プレス 直前のガラス形状、(3-2)プレスのタイミングおよび (3-3)プレス圧を以下に示すよう に制御する。
(3-1)プレス直前のガラス形状および (3- 3)プレス圧は、第 1実施形態においてと同 様の範囲内で適宜選択されればょ 、。
(3-2)本実施形態におけるプレスのタイミングは第 1実施形態と比較して少し早く設 定する。すなわち、第 1実施形態(図 1 (A)参照)では、成形面 2の外縁領域 5とガラス との間だけでなぐ外周面 3の内縁領域 6とガラスとの間にも連続して空間が形成され る程度の比較的広!、境界近傍部分 12 (図 1 (B)参照)が適度な流動性低下を弓 Iき起 こすまで待ち時間を確保していたが、本実施形態では(図 3 (B)参照)、成形面 2の外 縁領域 5とガラスとの間にのみ空間が形成される程度の比較的狭い境界近傍部分 1 2 (図 3 (B)参照)が適度な流動性低下を引き起こせばよい。そのような待ち時間は、 ガラスの種類、滴下量、下型温度に依存して決定されるため、一概に規定できるもの ではないが、ガラスが LaK8であり、滴下量が 10〜200mgであり、下型温度が上記 範囲内のときで、通常は、 2〜9秒、特に 4〜9秒の範囲内で適宜選択される。
[0025] 第 1〜第 3実施形態において、下型の成形面と外周面との境界領域における成形 面の外周面に対する傾斜角は特に制限されず、例えば、 30° 以上 90° 以下、特に 40° 以上 90° 以下が好ましい。さらに、 60° 以上 90° 以下、特に 60° 以上 70° 以下であることがより好ましい。従来では、傾斜角が 40° 以上のとき、光学ガラス素 子におけるレンズ部とコバ部との境界でクラック等が発生しはじめ、 60° 以上のとき に顕著に発生していた力 本発明ではそのような問題を有効に防止できるためである 本明細書中、傾斜角は図 4 (B)の境界領域拡大図に示す角度 Θである。
[0026] (光学ガラス素子)
本発明の方法で製造された光学ガラス素子の具体例を図 5に示す。図 5において( A)は第 1実施形態で製造された素子の一例であり、 (B)は第 2実施形態で製造され た素子の一例であり、 (C)は第 3実施形態で製造された素子の一例である。
[0027] 本発明の方法で製造された光学ガラス素子は、図 5 (A)〜(C)に示すように、下型 成形面が転写されたレンズ面 41および下型外周面が転写されたコバ面 42を有し、レ ンズ面 41とコバ面 42との間に凹部 (溝)(15、 25、 35)を有することを特徴とする。
[0028] 凹部(15、 25、 35)はそれぞれ前記空間(10, 20, 30)に由来するもので、凹部の 大きさは前記空間の大きさおよび溶融ガラスの使用量に依存する。例えば、 10-20
Omgの溶融ガラスを使用する場合で、凹部断面の幅 wや深さ d (図 5参照)はやはり ナノメーターからミリメーターオーダーである。
[0029] 凹部(15、 25、 35)の表面は自由面であるので、凹部の表面粗さは Ral〜10nm、 好ましくは Ral〜5nmである。また素子のレンズ面 41と凹部(15、 25、 35)とは滑ら かに繋がっている。
[0030] またレンズ面 41には金型成形面が良好に転写されて 、る。例えば、金型成形面の 表面粗さが RalOnm程度、特に Ra5nm程度まで小さくても、レンズ面には当該成形 面が有効に転写されている。このとき、レンズ面における形状誤差は 0. 以下、 特に 0. 05 m以下である。形状誤差とは、成形されたレンズ形状と設計形状との差 のことである。
[0031] 素子のレンズ部(レンズ面を有する部分)とコバ部(コバ面を有する部分)との厚みの 差は特に制限されず、例えば、レンズ外径が 2〜6mm程度の場合には、 l〜3mmで あってよいが、特に l〜2mmであることが好ましい。従来では、厚みの差が lmm以 上のとき、光学ガラス素子におけるレンズ部とコバ部との境界でクラック等が発生し易 くなるが、本発明ではそのような問題を有効に防止できるためである。レンズ部の最 大厚み(心厚)は通常は l〜4mm、特に l〜3mmが適当である。コバ部の厚みは通 常は 0. 1〜: Lmm、特に 0. 1〜0. 7mmが適当である。上記数値はレンズ外径が 2〜 6mm程度の場合であってこれに限るものではない。レンズ外径が異なる場合は、外 径の大きさに略比例して上記の値を変えればよい。
実施例
[0032] 以下、実施例により本発明を具体的に説明する。
(実施例 1)
図 1 (A)および (B)に示す方法により光学ガラス素子を製造した。下型 1および上 型 8は超硬からなっており、下型の成形面および外周面および上型のガラスとの接触 面はいずれも表面粗さ Ral5nmに精密研磨加工されている。下型 1の成形面凹部に ついて、開口径は 3. 2mm、深さは 1. 5mmであり、近似曲率半径 1. 4mmの凹非球 面形状を有していた。また下型における成形面 2の外周面 3に対する傾斜角は 62° であった。下型 1および上型 8の温度は 450°Cであった。
[0033] 詳しくは、図示しないルツボ内において温度 1100°Cで溶融させたガラス(LaK8) 7 Omgを、 1050°Cに加熱されたノズルより溶融ガラス滴の直径が 3. 1mmとなるように 下型成形面上に滴下させた。滴下時において溶融ガラスは、ノズルの先端にー且、 溜まり、規定の重量になったときに、ノズル先端力 分離し、下方に落下するようにな つている。 1050°Cでのガラス粘度は 105poiseである。滴下後、図 1 (B)に示す状態で 6秒間保持した (待ち時間)。その後、図 1 (A)に示すように、速やかに下型 1および 上型 8によりガラスを 30kgZcm2で 5秒間加圧した。加圧終了後、上下型の加熱を終 了し、上下型間を開放し、 1分間放置冷却して図 5 (A)に示すような光学ガラス素子 を得た。
[0034] 光学ガラス素子を光学顕微鏡 (倍率 100倍)で観察したところ、レンズ部とコバ部と の境界には凹部 (溝)が形成されており、クラックや割れは全く発生していな力つた。 また凹部は自由表面を有しており、光学有効領域外に存在していた。凹部の幅 wは 200 μ m、深さ dは 100 μ mであった。
素子におけるレンズ部における外径は 4. Omm、心厚は 2. 200mm,光学有効領 域の直径は 3. Ommであり、コバ部の厚は 0. 5mmであった。また素子の両面の表面 粗さは 10nmであった。
[0035] (比較例 1)
溶融ガラス 70mgを、 1200°Cに加熱されたノズルより溶融ガラス滴の直径が 3. 3m mとなるように滴下させ、図 6に示す状態で 4秒間保持し、図 7に示すように加圧した こと以外、実施例 1と同様の方法で光学ガラス素子を得た。図 6において成形面 2の 外縁領域 5および外周面 3の内縁領域 6はガラスと接触して 、る。また 1200°Cでのガ ラス粘度は lC^poiseである。
光学ガラス素子を光学顕微鏡 (倍率 100倍)で観察したところ、レンズ部とコバ部と の境界にクラックや割れが発生して 、た。 [0036] (実施例 2)
溶融ガラス 70mgを溶融ガラス滴の直径が 3. 2mmとなるようにノズルより滴下させ、 図 2 (B)に示す状態で 6秒間保持し、図 2 (A)に示すように加圧したこと以外、実施例 1と同様の方法で図 5 (B)に示すような光学ガラス素子を得た。
光学ガラス素子を光学顕微鏡 (倍率 100倍)で観察したところ、レンズ部とコバ部と の境界には凹部 (溝)が形成されており、クラックや割れは全く発生していな力つた。 また凹部は自由表面を有しており、光学有効領域外に存在していた。凹部の幅 wは 200 μ m、深さ dは 100 μ mであった。
素子におけるレンズ部における外径は 4. Omm、心厚は 2. 200mm,光学有効領 域の直径は 3. Ommであり、コバ部の厚は 0. 5mmであった。また素子の両面の表面 粗さは 10nmであった。
[0037] (実施例 3)
溶融ガラス 70mgを溶融ガラス滴の直径が 3. Ommとなるようにノズルより滴下させ、 図 3 (B)に示す状態で 5. 5秒間保持し、図 3 (A)に示すように加圧したこと以外、実 施例 1と同様の方法で図 5 (C)に示すような光学ガラス素子を得た。
光学ガラス素子を光学顕微鏡 (倍率 100倍)で観察したところ、レンズ部とコバ部と の境界には凹部 (溝)が形成されており、クラックや割れは全く発生していな力つた。 また凹部は自由表面を有しており、光学有効領域外に存在していた。凹部の幅 wは 200 μ m、深さ dは 100 μ mであった。
素子におけるレンズ部における外径は 4. Omm、心厚は 2. 200mm,光学有効領 域の直径は 3. Ommであり、コバ部の厚は 0. 5mmであった。また素子の両面の表面 粗さは 10nmであった。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 下型と上型との間で溶融ガラスをプレスする光学ガラス素子の製造方法であって、 下型が有する成形面とその外側に配置される外周面との境界領域と、ガラスとの間で 空間を確保しながらプレスを行うことを特徴とする光学ガラス素子の製造方法。
[2] 下型成形面の外縁領域または下型外周面の内縁領域とガラスとの間で空間を確保 しながらプレスを行うことを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の光学ガラス素子の製造方法。
[3] 下型成形面の外縁領域および下型外周面の内縁領域とガラスとの間で空間を確 保しながらプレスを行うことを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の光学ガラス素子の製造方 法。
[4] 下型の成形面と外周面との境界領域において成形面の外周面に対する傾斜角が 40° 以上 90° 以下であることを特徴とする請求項 1〜3いずれかに記載の光学ガラ ス素子の製造方法。
[5] 請求項 1に記載の方法によって製造された光学ガラス素子であって、下型成形面 が転写されたレンズ面と下型外周面が転写されたコバ面との間に凹部を有することを 特徴とする光学ガラス素子。
[6] 請求項 2に記載の方法によって製造された光学ガラス素子であって、下型成形面 が転写されたレンズ面と下型外周面が転写されたコバ面との間に凹部を有することを 特徴とする光学ガラス素子。
[7] 請求項 3に記載の方法によって製造された光学ガラス素子であって、下型成形面 が転写されたレンズ面と下型外周面が転写されたコバ面との間に凹部を有することを 特徴とする光学ガラス素子。
[8] 光学ガラス素子は凸レンズであり、コバ面に対するレンズ面外縁領域の傾斜角が 4
