A method (200) for transmitting description information using a radio data system (RDS) is provided The method (200) includes capturing description information for a digital file being stored in a portable device (202) The description information is formatted in a format compatible with RDS (204) and the formatted description information is sent to the output device (206) The formatted description information is output while the digital file is being outputted on the output device (206)
