Abstract

In the method of the invention objects can be identified on the basis of location and one or more characteristics in an improved way. The method is performed by means of a user device (1) and a service (5) offering a service with which objects can be identified. In the method of the invention, the object to be identified is positioned and the position of the object is sent to the service (5) to which the user device (1) has connected. The user of the user device (1) selects one or more characteristics' presented by the service (5) for an object to be identified. A message containing the position of the object to be identified and selected characteristic (s) is then sent from the user device (1) to the service (5) . The service fetches information on the basis .of the position of the object and the selected characteristic (s) from a database (6) . The fetched information is presented to the user device in the form of alternative objects to be identified.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 11 December 2006 (11.12.2006)
1. Method for identification of objects on the basis of location and one or more characteristics by means of a user device and a service product offering a service with which objects can be identified, characterized by a) positioning an object to be identified, b) the user device connecting to said service, c) selecting one or more characteristics presented in the service for an object to be identified, d) one or more messages containing the position of the object and selected characteristic(s) is sent to the service product, e) the service product fetching information on the basis of the position of the object and the selected characteristic(s) from a database, f) presenting the fetched information for the user device in the form of one or more alternative objects to be identified.

Method of claim ^characterized in that said user device is a mobile station, whereby the positioning of an object to be identified in step a) is performed by positioning the mobile station, the position information in step d) corresponding to the information given by a positioning system in the mobile station.
3. Method of claim 1, ch a ra cte rize d in that in step a) the positioning of an object to be identified is performed by manually informing the position of the object found to the service product.
4. Method of claim 1 or 2, ch a racte rized in that the service product is in the user device.
5. Method of claim 1 or 2, characterized in that in step b) the service product is requested from a service provider via a public network such as internet.
6. Method of any of claims 1 -5, characterized in that it further comprises the steps in which further characteristics are presented for the user device before step 17
f) in order to be identified and sent to the service before the final result or alternatives are presented for the user.
7. Method of any of claims 1 -6, cha racterized in that a message of step b) further comprises information of terminal capabilities.
8. Method of any of claims 1 -7, ch a racte rized in that the service product fetches the information on the basis of the position of the object, the selected characteristic(s) and time information.
9. Method of claim 7 or 8, c h a ra cte riz e d in that the service presents the information of step f) to the user device in a suitable form on the basis of the terminal capabilities.
10. System for identification of an object on the basis of the position and one or more properties comprising a user device and a service product offering a service for identification of objects, characterized by
a) the user device with means for establishing a connection to said service and with a positioning system, b) the service comprising a database with objects classified on the basis of their position and their characteristic(s).
11. System of claim 10, characterized in that the user device is a mobile station and further comprises a positioning system, such as the Global Positioning Service (GPS).
12. System of claim 11, characterized in that the mobile station is a GSM phone or other wireless terminal.
13. System of any of claims 10-12, characterized in that the service product is in the user device. 18
14. System of any of claims 10 - 12, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the system further comprises a service provider having the service product.
15. System of claim 14, characterized in that the user device is in connection with the service provider through internet.
16. System of any of claims 10-15, characterized in that the database consists of local databases, an object menu for each local database and submenus on different levels for the object menu.
17. System of claim 16, ch a racte ri ze d in that there are local databases for different regions in a country.
18. System of any of claims 10- 17, ch a racte rized in that the objects to be identified are classified in the database on the basis of different characteristics in a hierarchic system by means of submenus.
19. System of any of claims 17 - 18, c h a ra cte r i ze d in that the submenus contains images, text or photographs of the objects.
