Description

Title: THE SANITARY NAPKIN
Technical Field
The present invention relates to an external sanitary protection, and
more particularly, to a sanitary napkin including an extended menstrual-blood
absorbing portion formed on an upper portion and snugly fitted in a valley
extending from a virginal region to a perineum and an anal tailbone (i.e.,
intergluteal crevice) so as to prevent menstrual blood or fluid from traveling
along a gap between the body and the sanitary napkin by completely closely
contacting the body and the sanitary napkin and perfectly absorbing the
menstrual blood flowing along the intergluteal crevice.
Background Art
A sanitary napkin is generally constructed to absorb a fluid discharged
from a woman's body, such as menstrual blood. It is important for modern
women to prevent the fluid from traveling along the body outwardly.
To this end, a sanitary napkin provided with flaps for preventing travel of
the menstrual blood at lateral sides of the sanitary napkin is widely used in
recent. Such a sanitary napkin has a good effect in case the fluid flows
downwardly in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the
sanitary napkin (i.e., when a wearer is standing or sitting). However, there is a
gap between the sanitary napkin and the intergluteal crevice, in case the fluid flows horizontally along the longitudinal direction of the sanitary napkin (i.e.,
while a wearer is lying). As a result, the fluid travels along the gap to cause
cloth or sheet to be stained with the fluid. There is a problem in that the
wearer is overcome with apprehensions while asleep.
In addition, since a portion of the conventional sanitary napkin which is
contacted with the human body is formed in a flat shape, the surface of the
sanitary napkin is not contacted with irregular perineum or anus. Therefore,
although the conventional sanitary napkin is worn, the time required for that the
menstrual blood reaches the sanitary napkin is long. In this instance, the
menstrual blood flows between a skin and a lateral portion of the sanitary
napkin.
A sanitary napkin is disclosed in Korean Utility Model Publication No.
20-0295363 so as to solve the above problems. The sanitary napkin includes,
as shown in FIG. 1 , an absorbing layer 10 formed in an extended triangular
shape, a tailbone contacting portion 12 protruding from a rear end of the
absorbing layer in a triangular shape and closely contacted with a tailbone
region of a wearer, protrusions 14 and 16 formed on an upper portion of the
absorbing layer 10 and inserted in recessed portion of the tailbone region, and
an adhesive layer 22 formed on a bottom surface of the absorbing layer 10 to
be adhered to an upper surface of a flat sanitary napkin 40 and protected by a
release film 20.
With the construction of the above sanitary napkin, a small sanitary napkin 30 adhered to the flat sanitary napkin 40 partially protrudes towards a
vaginal region or tailbone region, and is generally formed in the triangular
shape. Therefore, the sanitary napkin is closely contacted with the human
body to some extent not to form a gap there between, thereby preventing the
menstrual blood from flowing.
However, since the separate sanitary napkin 30 having the tailbone
contacting portion 12 and the protrusions 14 and 16 integrally formed thereon is
adhered to a conventional flat sanitary napkin 40, a production cost thereof is
increased. Also, the position of the small sanitary napkin adhered to the flat
sanitary napkin may be altered during the action of the wearer. If the position
of the small sanitary napkin is altered due to the lowered adhering force of the
vigorous action of the wearer, the menstrual blood flows along the skin since
the absorbing position of the flat sanitary napkin is leaned to one side.
A sanitary napkin having a strip and a front flip between wearer's
buttocks to make wearing sensations of a wearer better and improve the
contact against a wearer's body is disclosed in Korean Patent Laid-Open
Publication No. 2003-0068880. The sanitary napkin includes
(a) a main pad body having an absorbent core system positioned
between a pad cover material and a barrier layer, a rear end which in use is
located in proximity to a wearer's buttocks and an opposed front end, a first face
adapted to contact with the wearer's body and an opposing second face
adapted to face toward an undergarment of a wearer, a main pad body thickness being defined as the dimension of the main pad body from the first
face to the second face, the main pad body adapted to be worn in close
proximity to the vagina of a wearer;
(b) the pad further comprising a flexible front flap, extending forwardly
from the front end of the main pad body and terminating at a distal end, the flap
adapted to aid in retaining the main pad body adjacent to the wearer's vagina;
(c) the distal end of the front flap containing an area of adhesive
adapted for attaching the distal end to the undergarment of the wearer; and,
(d) the pad further comprising a tail, the tail being relatively small in
thickness compared to the main pad body thickness and the tail extending
rearwardly from the rear end of the main pad body, terminating at a distal end,
and being configured to be received between the buttocks of the wearer to
facilitate retaining the main pad body adjacent to the wearer's vagina.
Specifically, the absorbent core system is positioned on one side (i.e.,
the position where the vagina of the wearer is positioned) of the upper surface
of the barrier layer which forms the body, and then is enclosed by the cover
material. The front flip having the adhesive and the tail to be positioned
between the buttocks of the wearer are extended from the front and rear
portions of the barrier layer.
Therefore, since the front flip having the adhesive is formed on the front
portion of the sanitary napkin, the sanitary napkin itself can be adhered to the
undergarment of the wearer. Also, since the tail of the rear portion is inserted in the valley of the buttocks, the sanitary napkin can be comfortably maintained
against the body of the wearer.
However, the absorbent core system absorbing the menstrual blood is
positioned only at the position contacting with the vagina of the wearer, and the
tail is made of the material of the barrier layer which is the body of the sanitary
napkin having the function of preventing the flow of the menstrual blood.
Therefore, while the wearer wearing the sanitary napkin is lying, the sanitary
napkin does not absorb the menstrual blood traveling towards the anus along
the perineum, so that the menstrual blood flows through the gap between the
inner surface of the tail and the buttocks of the wearer.

The sanitary napkin of the present invention including a body 1 formed
by adhering an edge of a rectangular menstrual-blood flow preventive member
11 to an edge of a rectangular menstrual-blood permeable member 12; a
menstrual-blood absorbing layer 2 positioned in the body 1 ; an adhesive 3
applied on a bottom surface of the menstrual-blood flow preventive member 11 ;
and a release paper 4 adhered to the adhesive 3 is characterized in that an
extended portion 5 is formed at a rear portion of the body 1 , and has a width
smaller that that of the body and a length extended to a tailbone of a human
body, and in that an extended menstrual-blood absorbing member 6 is installed on the menstrual-blood absorbing member 2 of the body 1 and is extended from
a portion proximity to a vagina of the human body to the extended portion 5.
Preferably, the extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 has a
cross section of a circular, semicircular, or triangular shape.
Also, inclined surfaces 7 are formed on both sides of the extended
portion 5 at a rear portion of the body 1 in such a way that a width of the
inclined surface 7 is gradually decreased towards a rear end of the body.
An adhesive 3 may be applied on an end portion of the menstrual-blood
flow preventive member 11 of the extended portion, and a release paper 4 may
be adhered to the adhesive 3.
In addition, recessed grooves 8 are formed on both sides of the
extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 at the menstrual-blood
permeable member 12 of the body 1 to collect the menstrual blood primarily
collected by the menstrual-blood absorbing layer 2 and the extended menstrual-
blood absorbing portion 6 in the body and to prevent the extended menstrual-
blood absorbing portion 6 from being moved or folded.
Flaps 9 are installed on both sides of the body 1 , and are folded at a
crotch of an undergarment.
An adhesive 3 may be applied on a bottom surface of the flap 9, and a
release paper 4 may be adhered to the adhesive 3.
The working effect of the sanitary napkin according to the present
invention will now be described. According to the technical feature of the sanitary napkin of the present
invention, the extended portion 5 is formed at the rear portion of the body 1 of a
common sanitary napkin, and is extended to the tailbone of the human body.
In addition, the extended menstrual-blood absorbing member 6 is installed in
the body 1 and the extended portion 5.
Specifically, the body 1 is formed by adhering the edge of the
rectangular menstrual-blood flow preventive member 11 to the edge of the
rectangular menstrual-blood permeable member 12, and the menstrual-blood
absorbing layer 2 is positioned in the body 1. The adhesive 3 is applied on the
bottom surface of the menstrual-blood flow preventive member 11 , and the
release paper 4 is adhered to the adhesive 3. The extended portion 5 is
extended to the tailbone of the human body at the rear portion of the body 1 ,
and an inner end of the extended menstrual-blood absorbing member 6 is
extended from the menstrual-blood absorbing layer 2 to the extended portion 5
in the body 1.
In this instance, the extended portion 5 has a width smaller that that of
the body 1 , i.e., about 15 to 25 mm in width, so that the extended portion 5 is
tightly inserted in an intergluteal crevice which is formed between the perineum
and the anus. In addition, although the length of the extended portion 5 is
varied depending upon a size of buttocks of the human body and the length of
the sanitary napkin, the extended portion 5 has a length of about 3 to 7 cm from
the body 1. Consequently, if the wearer wears the sanitary napkin of the present
invention, the flat body 1 encloses vaginal region, like a conventional sanitary
napkin, and the extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 protruding from
the body 1 and extending to the extended portion 5 is tightly inserted in an
intergluteal crevice which is formed between the perineum and the anus.
The wearing sensations and contact of the sanitary napkin according to
the present invention are improved in comparison with a conventional flat
sanitary napkin. In particular, while the wearer wearing the sanitary napkin of
the present invention is lying, the menstrual blood traveling towards the anus
along the perineum is absorbed by the extended menstrual-blood absorbing
portion 6 installed in the extended portion 5, thereby completely preventing the
menstrual blood from flowing through the gap between the sanitary napkin and
the buttocks of the wearer and thus coping with the worry and sense of shame
about the flow of the menstrual blood.
The extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 has a cross section
of a circular, semicircular, or triangular shape, as shown in FIGs. 6a to 6c, so
that the extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 is tightly inserted in the
intergluteal crevice which is formed between the perineum and the anus.
Also, the inclined surfaces 7 are formed on both sides of the extended
portion 5 at the rear portion of the body 1 in such a way that the width of the
inclined surface 7 is gradually decreased towards the rear end of the body.
Therefore, the extended portion 5 integrally protruding from the body 1 is snugly inserted in the intergluteal crevice to make the wearing sensations better.
In this instance, if the extended portion 5 is left intact, the extended
portion 5 possibly comes out from the intergluteal crevice, and an end of the
extended portion 5 can be rolled, when she wears loose clothes. In the
present invention, the adhesive 3 is applied on the end portion of the menstrual-
blood flow preventive member 11 of the extended portion, and the release
paper 4 is adhered to the adhesive 3. When wearing the sanitary napkin, the
release paper 4 is detached from the adhesive 3, and the adhesive is adhered
to the undergarment.
Of course, the flat body 1 of the sanitary napkin according to the
present invention is adhered to the undergarment with the adhesive 3 by
detaching the release paper 4 from the bottom surface of the menstrual-blood
flow preventive member 11 , as the conventional sanitary napkin. Therefore,
the sanitary napkin is not moved in the undergarment, and the closely contact
state of the sanitary napkin against the vaginal region is maintained. Also, the
extended portion 5 is closely inserted in the intergluteal crevice.
In case the extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 installed in
the space containing the vaginal region in the body 1 is covered by only the
menstrual-blood permeable member 12, a portion of the extended menstrual-
blood absorbing portion 6 positioned in the body 1 is possibly moved or rolled.
Accordingly, the recessed grooves 8 are formed on both sides of the
extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 at the menstrual-blood permeable member 12 of the body 1 to prevent the extended menstrual-blood
absorbing portion 6 from being moved in the body 1. Also, since the recessed
grooves 8 are formed in a longitudinal direction, the extended menstrual-blood
absorbing portion 6 is not rolled. The recessed grooves 8 secondarily collects
the menstrual blood which is primarily collected by the menstrual-blood
absorbing layer 2 and the extended menstrual-blood absorbing portion 6 in the
body, thereby increasing the effect of preventing the menstrual blood from
traveling.
In this instance, the formation of the recessed grooves 8 or the
adhesion of the edge of the menstrual-blood flow preventive portion 11 and the
edge of the menstrual-blood permeable portion 12 is performed by a high-
frequency heater.
Also, flaps 9 are installed on both sides of the body 1 , if necessarily,
and are folded at the crotch of the undergarment. In this instance, the
adhesive 3 is applied on the bottom surface of the flap 9, and the release paper
4 is adhered to the adhesive 3, as the adhesive 3 and release paper 4 of the
body 1 , so that the flaps 9 are adhered to the undergarment.
Industrial Applicability
As can be seen from the foregoing, the extended menstrual-blood
absorbing portion is formed on the upper portion, and is snugly fitted in the
valley extending from the virginal region to the intergluteal crevice from the perineum to the anal tailbone, thereby making wearing sensations and contact
better, and coping with worry and sense of shame about the flow of menstrual
blood by perfectly absorbing the menstrual blood flowing along the intergluteal
crevice while a wearer putting on the sanitary napkin is lying. Also, the
sanitary napkin can be inexpensively manufactured by installing the extended
menstrual-blood absorbing portion on a conventional flat sanitary napkin, while
improving the function of the sanitary napkin.
While this invention has been described in connection with what is
presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is to
be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiment and
the drawings. On the contrary, it is intended to cover various modifications and
variations within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
