Description

TITLE: Gaming Device
INVENTOR: Stacey Perry
SPECIFICATION OF IhJVENTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] This invention relates generally to games of chance such as are found in casinos and other legal gambling establishments and more particularly to a gaming device which can be used to play blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat and poker and/or derivatives thereof either at a table or a video machine or slot machine.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] In those areas of the world where gambling is legal, there is a constant demand and need for new or improved games of chance to attract gamblers to casinos and other gaming establishments. At the same time, experienced players have become familiar with traditional games of chance and gaming machines such as slot machines, video games, and tablegames.
[0003] A technique that is used to increase the attraction of games of chance and lengthen the time in which the players will stay at a particular gaming table or casino is to base the player's ultimate winning payoff not just on a single play of a game but on a proposition bet on their success on repeated plays. A non-limiting example of such a bet is the STREAK® games of chance. Such games are played with well-known games and rules for such games, but have the additional rules and tracking system of the STREAK® game of chance. A typical STREAK® game of chance will have a layout as depicted in Figure 6 disclosed in US Patent Application 09/792,372, incorporated herein in its entirety. Other games involving a bet on accumulating a number of outcomes in playing conventional games of chance are possible. Therefore, it is desirable that any new gaming machine or system, which, while taking advantage of this familiarity, creates new or added interest in the game. Players, who are newly exposed to or of limited experience with a STREAK® game of chance, or other proposition type game, must be able to multitask in playing the well- known game and in playing the STREAK® game of chance at the same time. A particular problem arises when the player is not fluent in the native language of the country wherein the games of chance are located and has limited skill in the STREAK® game of chance.
[0004] In particular, the gambling industry has become internationalized as the locations and frequency of gaming establishments expand into a global market and the gambling establishments themselves spend large amounts of the gross revenue to attract international destination players. As such, there is a mixture of multi- national players within a casino, on a web-site or other location at any one time playing games of chance. Further, since the gaming industry experienced a world wide growth spurt which began in the late 1990's, gaming staff are often brought in across national borders due to a lack of local expertise. While English is often deemed to be the international language and is used throughout the world, many players of games of chance do not exercise English as their native language and are not fluent in it. Still with travel of players across national borders, access via multimedia or the location of casinos in jurisdiction in which English is not a first language, nor are all players or gaming staff fluent in another common language, the matter of multi-lingual presentations of rules is a concern to the players of the games, to the staff of the games, to casino entity offering enhanced payouts at posted odds, and to the governing regulators of the games. Finally, it is noteworthy that one of the chief purposes of the governing gaming regulatory bodies is to ensure clarity of the rules and payout triggers to all concerned parties. As such it is of the utmost importance to the regulators to establish a standard for multi-language labeling in games of chance. The match marking system of Canadian Patent 5,743,798 which is incorporated in its entirety herein is an example of the types of apparatus which are regulated and approved by gaming regulators. This system itself demonstrates the need for clarity in tracking proposition bets. The dealer is not only required to advance the button from bet region to bet region with each outcome, but is also required to match the marks on the lammer and layout to enable detection of player tampering. The dealer is responsible for advancing the lammer to the next highest numbered bet region, therefore it is imperative that the dealer understand and be able to confirm the succession at time of placement.
[0005] An apparatus, method of play, procedure and instructions or used in regulated gaming environment are subject to a required regulatory approval process wherein the integrity of the apparatus, method of play, procedure and or instructions are examined for clarity and/or tamper proofing to ensure that the casino, nor the player are cheated or mislead
[0006] Multiple play wagering, where the player receives an ultimate payoff based upon achieving a pre-selected or not pre-selected number of consecutive wins, losses or ties at the game of chance, and games of chance with multiple chip receiving regions, i.e., craps, roulette, baccarat, et cetera, lack a tracking method and system which can facilitate the play of the game by multi national, multi lingual players. What is needed, then, is a gaming method and system which can accommodate one or more gamblers not fluent in English, or another common or native language, while allowing for multiple play wagering.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
[0007] One object of the present invention is to provide a tracking method and system that allows a player to play a proposition game and to facilitate the play and understanding of the game for multi national, multi lingual players and/or casino staff participating in the same game of chance at one time. Another object is to satisfy a previously unrecognized need for multi language labeling enable is to the game integrity feature of the previously noted patented mark matching system.
[0008] In accordance with this and other objects, which will become apparent below, the gaming method and system of the present invention is based on a consecutive game outcome monitoring technique which allows both the player and gaming staff to be reminded of the rules and current outcome in their native language or possible, at least, one that they are more fluent in than English, or the national language of the gaming establishment.
[0009] The system embodied herein allows three or more languages to be in used on a single gaming table layout , wherein regulatory approvals could be achieved because clarity of meaning to each international player and/or international casino staff is apparent and non confusing. Furthermore it is noteworthy that there is a distinction improvement being made from the simplified use of Arabica indicia for marking each successive proposition bet region and the more concise labeling provided in a language. Arabica indicia, or numerals have a cardinal meaning and the labeling in a foreign language has an ordinal meaning. The ordinal meaning brings more clarity to the rules of the proposition bet.
[0010] A plurality of chip marking locations is provided convenient to a dealer and adjacent to each player's position about a gaming table, or machine such as for example a blackjack table. Chips placed on a consecutive betting region represent only the consecutive bet. Conventional bets will continue to be made by placing a chip or chips on the conventional betting region of each player and separate from the consecutive win, losses or ties betting region. In one preferred embodiment, up to five consecutive wins may be selected by a player, however the method allows an unlimited number of consecutive betting regions representing and signifying the relevant number of consecutive wins, losses or ties to be attempted. Each consecutive win loss or tie betting region preferably contains a number, which identifies the number of consecutive wins, losses or ties the player believes he/she will achieve order to receive an enhanced payoff, based on predetermined odds.
[0011] A preferred embodiment is an apparatus for play of a proposition bet comprising a layout comprising at least one single game, or base game , bet area and at least one proposition bet, or consecutive outcome bet area. There is provided a plurality of equally spaced player betting regions containing both the conventional betting region (i.e.: blackjack bet, or baccarat bets) and a grouping of bet regions identified for the proposition bet. Each player betting position is uniquely labeled in specific foreign language Furthermore, each player betting area of said plurality of player proposition bet areas having one or more proposition point indicators. Each proposition point indicator has a border defining a the area for receiving a specific proposition bet and a multi language point marker within said bordered area; a bet tracking marker bounding on the outer boundary of said bordered area, said tracking marker having therein an Arabic indicia of a point accumulation needed to achieve a winning result in said proposition bet when a player plays a proposition bet marker in said bordered area; and the foreign language grouping for that player position, said grouping comprised of one or more common language symbols, or words, providing generic instruction for the proposition bet play or specific instruction for the proposition bet play associated with said proposition point indicator.
[0012] The sequential selection of the differing language is such that the same language is not used in two adjacent tracking areas. Preferably, the entire selection of . languages is exhausted before-use of any particular language. When two languages are used, one language is used in a tracking area and the other language is used in an adjacent tracking area. This alternating pattern is used sequentially across the gaming layout. When three languages are used in a tracking area, a first language is used, then a second language is used in the next, and then the third language is used in the next area following, this pattern being used across the layout. One of the languages can be, but need not be, the language a hosting playhouse or casino.
[0013] As a non-limiting example, the standard of labeling player proposition bet regions alternately with differing foreign languages to enable understanding across international communication barriers, so that, for example, a gambler who is Chinese may sit at a position with Portuguese labeling but look at the neighboring bet region which is, for example, Chinese and be able to understand the nature of his/her proposition bet regions. Therefore in this embodiment the foreign languages are alternated from player position to player position. Furthermore a third language maybe used to mark the dealer' instruction area, thus enabling foreign language casino staff. The common international language of English, which is the gaming standard for layouts, can be also used for general game rules.
[0014] The integrity of the consistency in alternating of foreign language labeling, the size and proximity of labeling from one player position to another; the addition of Arabic indicia, within each tracking mark; and the use of the casino staffs native language in the dealer instruction box all ensure that all concerned parties, the player, the casino staff, the regulators will not be confused about the meaning of the foreign language symbols or words.
