Abstract

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for generating material measures (1) as well as a material measure. In order to precisely design the boundaries (6) between the poles (N, S) that are magnetized into the material measure (1) and obtain symmetrical magnetization on both sides of the pole boundaries (6), at least some sections of at least one track of the material measure are magnetized by means of a coarse magnetizing field (13) that has a first field direction (FG) oriented relative to the surface (8) of the material measure, and poles (N, S) having a different polarity are alternately generated. In the area between the poles generated by the coarse magnetizing field (13), at least some sections of the track are magnetized by means of a fine magnetizing field (15) that has a second field direction (FF) extending substantially perpendicular to the field direction (FG) of the coarse magnetizing field (13). In the obtained material measure, the track is magnetically less saturated at the pole boundary (6) than in the adjoining sections of the pole boundary (6) in the direction of the track (SR).
