Abstract

The invention relates to the operation of a multiphase electric motor designated to be a vehicle drive, comprising the generation of PWM pulses for actuating circuit elements of an inverter for providing phase currents (Iu, Iv, Iw) for the electric motor, wherein a corresponding PWM pulse sequence (Pu, Pv, Pw) having a prescribed pulse frequency (fpwm = 1 / Tpwm) is generated for each phase current (Iu, Iv, Iw). In order to reduce acoustic noise, according to the invention, the pulse frequency (fpwm) of at least one of the PWM pulse sequences (Pu, Pv, Pw) is operationally varied in a continuous manner.
