Description

DISPOSITIVO DE RESTRICCIÓN Y FILTRADO DEL FLUJO VENTILATORIO NASAL.  RESTRICTION AND FILTER DEVICE OF THE NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW.
SECTOR OF THE TECHNIQUE. During exercise, the function of skeletal muscles is to produce body movements, while that of the respiratory muscles is to ventilate the lungs to obtain enough oxygen and eliminate metabolic waste such as carbon dioxide.
The ability of each muscle group can affect an athlete's entire body when they exercise.
The breathing mechanism, especially during physical and sports activity, must be governed by a nasal inspiration and an oral expiration, so that the inspired air is heated, moistened and filtered through the nostrils and expelled, more quickly and ease, by mouth.
In the inspiratory phase at rest, muscles such as the diaphragm and the external and parasternal intercostals act, and in the expiratory phase the action of gravity itself. During the physical activity, in the inspiratory phase, the aforementioned muscles act - joining muscles of the shoulder girdle - and in the expiratory phase, in addition to the action of gravity, the internal intercostal muscles and the abdominal wall act. All these muscles are susceptible to improvement through adequate training systems such as the NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTER DEVICE.
In numerous investigations in the field of physical activity, sport and health it has been shown that training the muscles responsible for air inspiration is beneficial to increase respiratory capacity, since it facilitates the entry of air into the lungs and decreases the fatigue caused for the same.
There are many studies of the specific training of inspiratory muscles through the control of ventilation and the specific work of respiratory muscles, however, only Jackson P. Wai. "Ventilatory Muscle Endurance Training, Effect on Endurance Exercise Performance ¡n Trained Cyclists". The Chínese University of Hong Kong, 1995, studies the effects of inspiratory muscle training through flow restriction in resistance training itself, with values of improvement in maximum oxygen consumption (+ 5%) and resistance performance 30 minutes (+ 9%) in Cyclists However, this author used as a flow restriction system a conventional mask with limited flow restriction capacity that encompassed nose and mouth.
Similarly, it has been demonstrated the need to perform an air filtration inspired by those people with allergic reactions to certain allergenic components such as mites, pollens, dust, etc., or simply in people who want to increase the quality of the air inspired by populations with high levels of pollution. The NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTER DEVICE allows the filtering of these components, improving the quality of the inspired air and, by extension, the health of the subject using it.
The NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTER SYSTEM is useful not only for subjects with respiratory problems, but also in professional athletes, since it has been shown that inspiratory muscle training has a positive character in the performance results in the Improvement of aerobic endurance
This invention relates to a device for restricting and filtering the ventilatory flow being its application in the training of the ventilatory muscles in the usual routine of training and improvement of resistance, as well as for the filtering of inhaled air of the phase! nspiratory.
ESTADO DE LA TÉCNICA STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE
There are several nasal devices on the market intended for the prevention and treatment of disorders and malformations in the nasal passages and therefore possible complications in breathing and scarce devices specifically intended for the training of the ventilatory muscles.
Similarly, there are various systems for the filtration of inspired air on the market, the most characteristic being the use of masks that, occupying and protecting the nasal and oral cavities, protect the body from the entry of allergic substances and contaminants.
Next we will explain the most characteristic.
Improved hygienic mask. U0267091: It consists of a mask of those that are formed by a body of breathable material and adaptable to the user's face, particularly allowing the protection of the nose and mouth of the same, covering them, characterized because inside and in front of the area where the nose and mouth are protected, an absorbent mattress or pad of volatile liquids is arranged by joining or adhesion by conventional means, given the particular circumstance that the impregnation of the mattress or pad by the Volatile liquid creates a breathable atmosphere of great quality and effectively healthy.
This type of mask, unlike the NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTERING SYSTEM, only filters and creates a quality breathable atmosphere, but does not allow more work of the inspiratory muscles during use. To this add the largest size of the system, also protecting the air inspired by mouth.
Nasal inspiratory resistance trainer (NIRT) US2009/0205642 AV. Nasal inspiratory resistance trainer (NIRT) US2009 / 0205642 AV. It consists of a device that applied to the outside of the nose increases the difficulty in carrying out nasal breathing by pressing the nasal fins and significantly reducing the air inlet light during inspiration. This device has basically 3 functions: the treatment and prevention of respiratory disorders such as asthma or rhinitis; a decrease in blood pressure from which those hypertensive subjects can be especially benefited and reduces the tendency to inhale orally while sleeping, thereby reducing snoring.
Its application can be somewhat annoying due to its design in the form of tweezers, not being suitable for use while playing sports. Likewise, as a negative aspect, the impossibility of controlling the pressure exerted on the nasal fins stands out, since this condition will depend not only on the material with which the device is manufactured but also, and more importantly, by the size and nasal anatomical shape of the subject. In addition, it does not allow air filtration inspired by the respiratory process.
Apparatus for hypoxic training and therapy US2005/0252512 AV. Apparatus for hypoxic training and therapy US2005 / 0252512 AV. It consists of a tube with a nozzle which is connected to a chamber where the carbon dioxide produced by respiration is absorbed, said chamber is in turn connected to the atmosphere. When the subject inhales through the tube, the air that receives the lungs contains a percentage of oxygen and carbon dioxide similar to the air located at the selected height. Therefore the function of this device is to reproduce the resistance training in height, improving breathing and reducing possible breathing difficulties. Ventilatory muscle training apparatus US4,301,810: This device is similar to the previous one although much more complex. Its function is to work the muscles involved in both inhalation and exhalation, improving ventilation during exercise, which is especially important for subjects suffering from some type of respiratory problem.
These last devices explained have the same function of improving respiratory ventilation, however due to the machinery that entails its use being impossible while performing any type of sport. Therefore, it does not allow its use in a real situation of resistance training in athletics runners or any other sport and does not filter the inspired air.
In relation to the devices explained and described above, highlight the strips referred to as US6 nasal dilator, 318,362 B1. They are flexible adhesive strips that are applied on the outside of the nose which prevent the tissue from the outer wall of the nasal passages from retracting during breathing. Its main function is to relieve the nasal block during inhalation and also due to its design it can be applied at night when the problem of nasal blockage during inhalation is more acute. In terms of design, it is the closest to the ventilatory flow restriction device due to the use of adhesive strips, however it is not intended for strengthening the ventilatory muscles since its function is to have the opposite effect to the FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTER SYSTEM NASAL VENTILATORY, since instead of facilitating the entry of air during inspiration, the proposed system hinders and filters the entry of air.
The NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTER SYSTEM, due to its simplicity, ease of use and transportability, has many advantages over other expensive instruments and devices that must also be used in static situations. The present invention allows users to develop their activities of daily life or sports while enhancing the inspiratory musculature.
EXPLICACIÓN DE LA INVENCIÓN EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION
El dispositivo se distingue de los explicados anteriormente básicamente en 5 aspectos: The ventilatory flow restriction device is composed, on its upper face, by a strip of hypoallergenic fabric (a) which is formed, depending on the structure of the tissue, of pores that will be the ones that hinder the ventilatory flow. Depending on the characteristics of the fabric used, density and size of the pores that comprise it, various types of restriction systems and flow filtration can be performed. A first system with very low level of restriction but useful for the filtration of inspired air, a second system with a low level of restriction and useful for filtering inspired air, a third system with filtering capacity and medium level of flow restriction and a fourth system with filtering capacity and high level of flow restriction. Depending on the physical level of the subject and their training status, one or the other system will be recommended to achieve the greatest benefits in improving the strength of the inspiratory muscles. On the back and on the two outer thirds of the ventilatory flow restriction strip, it contains adhesive (b) for its attachment to the nose (c). In the medial third there is a filter tissue (d) that allows to retain allergic particles and contaminants. Said tissue allows the incorporation of pharmacological substances and / or deodorizers that improve the state of health or well-being of the users. Finally, a last layer of plastic material, to protect the system until it is going to be used by the subject (e). The NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTER SYSTEM should be placed in such a way that it completely covers the nostrils, reducing the flow and / or filtering the intake of the inspired air. The device differs from those explained above basically in 5 aspects:
First: Its objective is to strengthen those muscles that are involved in breathing, being used during daily activities, aerobic training and even during rest.
Second: Depending on the mode of the NASAL VENTILATORY FLOW RESTRICTION AND FILTER SYSTEM chosen, low, medium or high level of flow restriction, it allows the user to regulate the entry of air, depending on the porosity of the fabric strip used, being able to adapt therefore to the user's physical requirements at that time, this being without a doubt its biggest advantage.
Third: This ventilatory flow restriction device adds an extra load to aerobic capacity training, therefore it is specially designed for athletes who want to use a complement to their resistance training.
Fourth: This device also allows the filtering of the inspired air during the respiratory process so it is very useful for those who live in places with high levels of air pollution or who have allergic diseases, by enabling the filtering of pollutants or allergens .
