Description

IMPROVED SUPPORTING UNIT FOR VOICE COMMUNICATION DEVICES. DESCRIPTION
The invention concerns a supporting unit for voice communication devices, particularly suited to be applied to different types of external supporting elements.
The invention also concerns an audio communication unit comprising a voice communication device supported by the above mentioned supporting unit of the invention.
It is known that voice communication devices, like for example cordless devices or devices with cord like telephone handsets, are associated with apposite platforms, hereinafter called supporting bases, that are capable of supporting them physically and also of interacting with them from the electrical and/or telecommunication point of view.
In the present document, where not indicated otherwise, the expression "cordless devices" means all those devices in which information is transmitted and received through radio waves, like for example cordless phones, mobile phones, WIFI phones, walkie-talkie transceivers etc.
In particular, in the case of said cordless communication devices, the above mentioned supporting base comprises electric/electronic means that on one hand make it possible to readdress the information coming from external communication lines towards the cordless device, converting the electric signals into signals of the radio wave type and vice versa.
On the other hand, said electric/electronic means provide for supplying the electric energy that is necessary to recharge the accumulators present inside the voice communication device, when these are placed in contact with suitable electric contact feet provided on the above mentioned supporting base.
A further example of combination of a voice communication device with a supporting base occurs in the case of telephone handsets connected to the base by means of an electric cord.
In this situation the inside of the handsets can be provided with elements like transducers for converting the electric signal into a sound and vice versa, as well as with electronic means that make it possible to manage keyboards and even LCD screens integrated therein.
Furthermore, as mentioned above, said supporting bases may be used also in combination with mobile telephones or other types of communication devices that are completely independent from a functional point of view, in order to allow the latter to be simply recharged when they are properly placed on the base and electrically connected to the latter through adapters.
It is known as well that most of the supporting bases are shaped in such a way that they can be arranged on substantially horizontal planes, in the most common case on furnishing elements like tables, writing desks or shelves.
For this purpose the supporting bases of the known art are considered appropriate and do not present any serious drawback during use.
However, there are situations, especially in the work environment, where there is no space available for said supporting bases, or said space is quite limited and therefore it is necessary to find an alternative location for said bases.
A classic example of said situations is represented, for example, by the workstation of supermarket cashiers, where part of the horizontal plane is occupied by the optical reader used to read the bar codes of the products on sale and the remaining space is almost completely occupied by the structure of the cash register.
According to some known solutions adopted to solve this problem, said supporting bases are fixed with suitable fixing means, for example screws, to vertical surfaces, like walls or partitions, without the inconvenience of occupying space on a horizontal plane or, in the limit case, with no need for such horizontal plane.
However, in this last situation it is obviously necessary to have a vertical wall available in proximity to the operator's workstation.
According to further alternative solutions to this problem, the same supporting base is directly connected to movable or semi-movable supporting elements, like for example LCD screens of PCs, lighting devices, supermarket cash registers etc.
In this case, the operator advantageously has at his/her disposal, together with his/her work instruments, the above mentioned voice communication devices, with no need, therefore, to occupy further space or to move them continuously. However, said supporting bases must be provided with specific and individual fixing means for each type of external supporting element, for example the base must be equipped with a series of couplings compatible with a specific brand of LCD screens. In this case, therefore, the companies that manufacture the above mentioned supporting bases must have a wide range of said bases included in their product offer, each one having a special design of its external body, and thus comprising an electronic system specifically designed to be inserted in said body and above all featuring specific fixing means compatible with a particular external supporting element, or said bases must be customized by the manufacturing companies according to the specific needs of the customers. It can therefore be understood that said operating procedures involve an increase in the cost of the individual supporting bases and also longer lead times.
The present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks listed above.
In particular, it is a first object of the invention to provide a supporting unit for voice communication devices that can be adapted to and is compatible with a high number of external supporting elements.
It is another object of the invention to provide a supporting unit that can be coupled with the external supporting element in a safer and stabler manner.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a supporting unit that is capable of managing different types of voice communication technology.
The objects described above are achieved by a supporting unit having the characteristics illustrated in the main claim.
The invention also concerns an audio communication unit comprising a voice communication device associated with the above mentioned supporting unit of the invention.
Further characteristics of the supporting unit that is the subject of the invention are described in the dependent claims.
Advantageously, providing a supporting unit with electric/electronic means capable of implementing different types of communication technology and further functions means making said unit universal also from the functional point of view.
The objects and advantages described above will be highlighted in greater detail in the description of a preferred embodiment of the invention that is supplied as an indicative, non-limiting example, with reference to the enclosed drawings, wherein:

- Figure 17 shows an axonometric view of the audio communication unit comprising a cord device;
- Figure 18 shows an axonometric view of the audio communication unit comprising a cordless device arranged in the charging cradle.
The supporting unit of the invention is represented as a whole in Figures 8 and 16, where it is indicated by 100.
The above mentioned supporting unit 100 is used to support and interact with one or more voice communication devices 200, like for example cord phones (telephone handsets) 201 or cordless devices 202 implementing different technologies and respectively illustrated in the examples of Figures 17 and 18. As shown in Figures 8 and 16, the supporting unit 100 of the invention comprises a supporting base 1 provided with one or more concavities 2, called cradles in technical jargon and illustrated in Figure 1 , suited to house a portion, usually one or both the ends, of the voice communication devices 200, so as to provide the required support.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention described herein and illustrated in the figures, said concavities 2 are three, two of which, the most external indicated by 3 and 4, are suited to accommodate both ends of a cord device 201, while the centre concavity 5 makes it possible to support different types of cordless devices 202.
It is clear, therefore, that thanks to the configuration described above the supporting unit 100 of the preferred embodiment is capable of accommodating multiple types of voice communication devices 200 that differ from one another for their design and/or their functions.
It cannot be excluded that in different embodiments of the supporting base 1 belonging to the supporting unit 100 of the invention, not described and not illustrated herein, the latter may be exclusively provided with concavities 3 and 4 capable of supporting voice communication devices like cord phones 201. Furthermore, in other embodiments not illustrated in the figures, either, the concavities 3 and 4 can be respectively provided with a loudspeaker and a microphone so as to obtain an audio communication unit in speaker mode. On the other hand, always with regard to the supporting base 1, in alternative embodiments it can be provided with a single concavity 5 capable of accommodating only communication devices of the cordless type 202. The supporting unit 100 of the invention also comprises a modular element 16, shown in Figures 6, 7, 12 and 15, suited to be removably coupled at the level of a housing 15 defined on said supporting base 1, as can be observed in Figures 1, 8, 14 and 16.
According to the invention, multiple types of replaceable modular elements 16 are provided, each one of which has a different fixing means 17 for connecting the supporting unit 100 of the invention to a specific external supporting element 300, as shown in Figures 9 and 13.
This characteristic advantageously makes it possible to provide a supporting unit 100 with a single universal supporting base 1 and to associate the latter with a specific replaceable modular element 16 equipped with specific fixing means 17 according to the type of external supporting element 300 to which said supporting unit 100 must be connected.
According to the invention, the supporting unit 100 is provided with two substantially facing walls 101 and 102 defining a recess 18 with open profile and substantially longitudinal development, as shown in Figures 8 and 16. The opening of said recess 18 makes it possible to accommodate a perimeter portion with substantially longitudinal development of an external supporting element 300.
According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, said perimeter portion of the external supporting element corresponds to the edge of an LCD screen 301 , as shown in Figure 9.
The configuration of the recess 18 defined in the supporting unit 100 of the invention thus makes it possible to securely connect the latter to the external supporting element 300 through the fixing means 17.
In particular, as shown in Figures 10 and 11, said LCD screens 301 are provided, on the edge of their rear part 302, with special coupling means 303 completely compatible with the fixing means 17 provided on the wall 102 belonging to the above mentioned replaceable modular element 16.
In different embodiments of the invention, the external supporting elements 300 may be LCD screens 301 manufactured by different companies and therefore including other types of coupling means 303, like for example the couplings of the so-called Vesa standard, as shown in Figure 13.
For this reason, the replaceable modular elements 16 must comprise fixing means 17 compatible with said Vesa standard, as is better described here below.
As an alternative, the external supporting elements 300 can be, for example, supermarket cash registers, scales used in the supermarket delicatessen, or simple structural elements like supporting columns, writing desk legs etc, provided that they all have a perimeter portion with substantially longitudinal development, so that the latter can be inserted in said recess 18.
Thanks to these features, the supporting unit 100 achieves the main object of the invention.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, illustrated in Figures from 1 to 8, in particular, said recess 18 is defined by the combination of the supporting base 1 with the replaceable modular element 16.
More precisely, as shown always in Figure 8, a first facing wall 101 is defined by a projecting portion 19 belonging to the supporting base 1 that extends substantially along the direction orthogonal to the housing 15.
Furthermore, the second facing wall 102 belongs to the replaceable modular element 16 so as to define the recess 18 when the same modular element 16 is coupled with the supporting base 1.
In this way, the wall 101 defined by said projecting portion 19 rests against the perimeter portion of the external supporting element 300 on the opposite side of the wall 102 in which it is possible to identify the fixing means 17, as shown in Figure 9.
In this way the stability of the above mentioned connection is increased.
Alternatively, according to a second embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figures 14, 15 and 16, both of the above mentioned walls 101 and 102 belong to the replaceable modular element 16.
The recess 18 is thus defined on the above mentioned modular element 16. Again, in the supporting base 1 the housing 15 is preferably but not necessarily defined along one of the two longer edges, as shown in Figures 1 and 14.
As regards the replaceable modular element 16 of the preferred embodiment described herein, as shown in Figure 7, its cross-section profile is substantially in the shape of a right-angled triangle on whose sloping side 20, which coincides with the wall 102, said fixing means 17 are provided.
In an alternative embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 12, the replaceable modular element 16 may comprise an arm 21 that extends to the rear centre part 304 of the LCD screen 301 to which it must be applied, illustrated in Figure 13.
In particular, the centre part 305 can be provided with coupling means of the Vesa type, as explained above, so that the free end 22 of the above mentioned arm 21 must be equipped with fixing means 17 compatible with said standard, in order to allow the combination of the supporting base 1 with the LCD screen 301.
In different construction forms, not illustrated herein, the shape of the replaceable modular element 16 and of the corresponding fixing means 17 can be of a type different from those just described, so as to allow the same modular element 16 to adapt to and be coupled with other types of external supporting element 300.
As regards, again, the replaceable modular elements 16 associated with the supporting base 1, both belonging to the supporting unit 100 of the invention, as shown in Figure 6 they are provided with a coupling surface 23 comprising one or more means 24 for connection to the housing 15 of the supporting base 1 itself.
In particular, in the preferred embodiment described herein said connection means 24 comprise quick-coupling elements 25 suited to counteract corresponding housing areas 26 defined on the inner surfaces of said supporting base 1 and shown in Figure 1 , when the latter is associated with the replaceable modular element 16.
In the alternative embodiment of the modular element 16 illustrated in Figure 15, said connection means 24 are provided also on the upper part of the coupling surface 23, so that they can be coupled with the housing areas 26 of the supporting base 1 created in the upper part of the latter, as shown in Figure 14.
Furthermore, as the supporting base 1 of the invention, in the preferred embodiment described herein, comprises a first half-shell 27 on which the above mentioned concavities 2 are obtained and to the underside of which a second half-shell 29, visible in Figures 1 and 3, is connected through interconnection means 28, the connection means 24 also comprise one or more plate-like projections 30 suited to be coupled with said interconnection means 28 belonging to both the half-shells 27 and 29, as shown in Figure 8. In particular, each one of the above mentioned plate-like projections 30 is provided, at the level of its free end, with a hole 31 , so that said free end can be interposed between the two cylindrical elements 32 and 33 that in the preferred embodiment of the invention make up said interconnection means 28 visible in Figure 8 and suited to be coupled coaxially.
Consequently, fixing the cylindrical elements 32 and 33 makes it possible to lock also the interposed plate-like projection 30, thus preventing the movement of the modular element 16 with respect to the supporting base 1.
In different embodiments of the invention not illustrated herein the connection means 24 may be different from those described above, provided that they make it possible to lock the movement of the modular element 16 on the supporting base 1 and provided that they belong to the known art.
Furthermore, in alternative embodiments of the invention the connection means 24 may belong to the supporting base 1 and not to the modular element 16, thus allowing an optimal locking action between the two parts. Finally, in different construction forms the supporting base 1 may comprise a single body to which the specific replaceable modular element 16 is associated and may not comprise the two half-shells 27 and 29 joined together.
The inside of the supporting base 1 belonging to the supporting unit 100 of the invention furthermore comprises electric/electronic means 6, schematically shown in Figure 4, that allow said supporting base to interact at a functional level with the above mentioned voice communication devices 200.
As regards, specifically, the preferred embodiment of the invention, in the supporting unit 1 said electric/electronic means 6 implement more than one communication and electrical connection technology.
More specifically, according to the embodiment described herein, the above mentioned electric/electronic means 6 make it possible to obtain communication between said voice communication devices 200, associated with the supporting unit 100, and external equipment, through implementation of the Voip technology.
At the same time, the electric/electronic means 6 comprise a section that implements also the well known analog communication.
In order to allow this double implementation, the supporting base 1 of the supporting unit 100 of the preferred embodiment of the invention, as shown in Figure 5, comprises, preferably in its rear part, both a port 7 for connectors (RJ-45) belonging to a local network (LAN) cable, usually complying with the Ethernet standard, with which the digital data for the Voip communication is in fact transmitted, and a port 8 typically for RJ-11 connectors for connection to the so-called telephone pair, allowing analog voice transmission through the fixed telephone network.
In addition to transmitting digital data, the LAN network cable is preferably but not necessarily used also to supply voltage to the supporting base 1 through the implementation of the so-called POE standard.
Furthermore, as shown again in Figure 5, the preferred embodiment of the invention described herein is provided with a further port 9 for Ethernet connectors, in such a way as to be able to provide the network connection for an additional external device, not shown in the figures, by connecting the latter directly to the above mentioned supporting base 1 of the supporting unit 100 of the invention.
In different embodiments of the invention not described herein, the electric/ electronic means 6 may serve to implement only the Voip communication, thus making it indispensable only to provide the Ethernet port 7 on the supporting base 1.
In other embodiments of the supporting unit 100 of the invention, it may be possible to implement only the analog communication with the presence of the port 8 for RJ-11 connectors of the telephone pair only.
Alternatively, the same type of communication can be obtained by means of technologies that are different from the two just described above, provided that they belong to the known art.
According to a further variant embodiment of the supporting unit 100 of the invention, the supply of electric energy to the electric/electronic means 6 can take place through a line that is independent of the Ethernet network cable, for example through an electric cable associated with a transformer device, not illustrated herein, connected directly to the electric supply mains.
Furthermore, the supporting base 1 belonging to the supporting unit 100 of the invention, in order to be able to transmit the signals coming from the external networks to the voice communication device 200, if the latter is a cordless device 202, comprises a radiating antenna 10, as shown in Figure 4, electrically connected to said electric/electronic means 6.
The preferred embodiment of the supporting base 1 additionally comprises a further port 11 suited to house the connector, preferably of the RJ-11 type, of the cable of a telephone handset 201, as shown in Figure 5.
In alternative embodiments to the preferred one described herein, the supporting base 1 may be provided only with the radiating antenna 10 or alternatively only with the port 11 for the cable of the above mentioned telephone handset.
As regards again the electric/electronic means 6, in the preferred embodiment described herein they comprise, in addition to the communication technologies described above, also a battery charger unit 12, visible in Figure 4, for the voice communication devices 200 associated with the supporting base 1 , or for any other type of device operating independently of the above mentioned supporting base 1.
In particular, the battery charger unit 12 comprises one or more electric contact feet 13, represented in Figures 1 and 2, at the level of at least one of the concavities 2 defined on the supporting base 1 to allow the electric energy to flow from said battery charger unit 12 towards the accumulators present in the voice communication devices 200, in particular cordless devices 202, when the latter are arranged so that they rest in the apposite concavities 2 and are in electric contact with the same feet 13.
In the preferred embodiment of the supporting base 1 of the supporting unit 100 of the invention, as shown in Figure 2, said contact feet 13 are arranged in the centre concavity 5 where, in fact, the cordless devices 202 are housed.
Furthermore, according to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the centre concavity 5 and the corresponding electric contact feet 13 are of the removable and interchangeable type, so that it is possible to adapt the supporting base 1 to the preferred brand of cordless devices 202 used.
To the contrary, in different construction variants not described herein, the same concavity 5 and the corresponding feet 13 may not be replaceable and thus allow only a specific type of cordless devices 202 to be charged.
Finally, as shown in Figure 5, the supporting base 1 of the supporting unit 100 of the invention is preferably but not necessarily provided with a USB port 14 for the connection of external devices by means of the above mentioned technology.
In particular, devices like MP3/MP4 readers, mobile phones, radios, cameras, devices with ZigBee, FingerPrint, WiFi, BT technology, devices with Flash memories etc can be connected to said USB port 14 in order to interact with the supporting unit 100 in a functional way or more simply in order to allow them to be recharged.
For example, a WiFi device may be connected to the above mentioned USB port 14 in order to use it as an Access Point.
The present invention furthermore concerns a voice communication unit 400 comprising the supporting unit 100 associated with one or more voice communication devices 200, as shown in Figures 17 and 18.
On the basis of the above, it is clear that the supporting unit that is the subject of the invention achieves all the set objects.
In particular, the invention achieves the object to provide a supporting unit for voice communication devices that can be adapted to and is compatible with a high number of external supporting elements.
The invention also achieves the object to provide a supporting unit that can be coupled with the external supporting element in a safer and more stable manner.
It also achieves the object to provide a supporting unit that is capable of managing different types of voice communication technology.
The supporting unit of the invention makes it possible to achieve also the said objects.
On implementation, the supporting unit that is the subject of the invention and the communication unit may undergo changes that, though not illustrated or described herein, shall nonetheless be covered by the present patent, provided that they come within the scope of the claims that follow.
Where technical features mentioned in any claim are followed by reference signs, those reference sings have been included for the sole purpose of increasing the intelligibility of the claims and accordingly such reference signs do not have any limiting effect on the protection of each element identified by way of example by such reference signs.
