Description

METHOD OF VIDEO INTERACTION IN SOCIAL COMPUTING BASED COMMUNITY USING SELF DESTRUCTIVE VIDEOS
BACKGROUND
Technical Field
The present invention relates to the field of video interaction and more particularly to video interaction using self-destructive videos in a social computing based community and environment.
Description of the related Art
Social networking sites that keep people connected over the Internet have become almost essential today. These social networking sites help a person to stay in touch with family, friends, and people at work/school/college/university, people he or she knows personally, people he or she is acquainted to and also, helps to expand the person's social circle by enabling him or her to interact and communicate with strangers. Over the last decade, the internet has seen an immense boom in the number of social networking sites who provide services that focus on one or more particular aspects of human life and build their entire site and associated features, user interface, etc. based on the focused aspect. The most popular aspects of providing a social networking service revolve around sites that are focused on general human interaction, dating, professional and job specific , matrimony , games, music, movies, books, environment, technology and so on. Majority of these social networking sites are text based and communication between the users takes place -using text. Video communication exists in quite a number of social networking sites. Video communication in general, is a better way of communication compared to text. Video has more credibility, authenticity and scope of conveying information as compared to other popular means of communication such as text, images or audio. When a user uses videos in social networking sites, the user may post a large number of videos that may differ with respect to various attributes such as the intended/target audience and purpose of the video. There may be various reasons due to which a user may not want a video posted by him in a social networking site to displayed and viewed after a certain period of time or after it has been viewed by a certain number of viewers for a certain number of times. A tutorial video or video of a lecture can be provided to a student of a correspondence course for a single view via a social network's personal messaging facility. A movie retailer who conducts his business through social networking sites can rent out movies in legal intangible format to his customers wherein he would want the video rented out to be viewed in his customer's system only once or to be available on said customer's system only for a particular period of time for which the payment was made. Moreover, if a user posts a large number of videos, it becomes difficult for him to keep track of each of these videos- how they are being used by other users who have access to them, check whether they are being misused, etc. Let us consider a potential employee sharing his information with a potential employer via video. Now, if said potential employee is not selected for the job, he may not want his information and personal data to remain with said potential employer. In the current social networking scenario, the only possible way to do this is via an assurance from said potential employer that said potential employee's information will not be shared or used in any way without said potential employee's consent. However, this is again a matter of trust and legal bindings, and not a full proof solution for the problem. The best possible measure that can prevent misuse of such videos is implementation of self-destructive videos. Yet another example would be say if a person X wants to say/show something to person Y in a video via a social networking service/application, but does not trust Y and has fears that Y may misuse the video. In the current social networking sites, there does not exist the means to get a video to self-destruct, i.e., the video by itself will cease to exist, independent of the device it is stored in, or the number of times it has been duplicated. Hence what is required is a method to implement self-destructive videos in a social media environment.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is a method of video interaction that implements self destructive videos sent, received, posted and shared over social computing based websites, applications and services. This method enables the creator of a video to set/define a self destruction parameter in the metadata of a video after creation of the video and before making it available to others in a social computing based community via personal point to point messaging, one to many messaging, post made available publically or to a customized target audience.
The present invention is a method of video interaction using self destructive videos in electronic devices. The method involves creating a self destructive video, based on an input received from a first user, by integrating a self destruction parameter to the metadata of an ordinary video, in a first electronic device; based on an input received from said first user, uploading said self destructive video from said first electronic device to a server associated with a social computing based community and service; based on an input received from a second user, downloading said self destructive video from said server into a second electronic device; based on an input received from said first user and/or said second user, posting and/or sharing said self destructive video in said social computing based community; based on an input received from said first user, defining a self destruction condition in said metadata; automatically removing said self destructive video from at least one defined location when said self destruction condition is reached; using said self destruction parameter to check whether said self destruction condition is reached. Said social computing based community comprises a plurality of users who communicate and interact amongst themselves using said service and the communication and interaction amongst said plurality of users is achieved by using (but not limited to) self destructive videos.
In the method, uploading said self destructive video from said first electronic device to a server is initiated by a first user from said plurality of users, using said service. Downloading said self destructive video from said server into a second electronic device is initiated by a second user from said plurality of users. The posting of said self destructive video in said social computing based community is carried out by said first user, using said service. Sharing of said self destructive video in said social computing based community can be carried out by any user with appropriate permissions.
Said at least one defined location comprises said second electronic device and/or said server and/or said first electronic device. One way of defining said self destruction condition comprises defining a certain number of defined views of said self destructive video after which said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location, and here, said self destruction parameter is defined as the number of views. The number of defined views and said parameter are compared by a counter after every view of said self destructive video.
Said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location when said number of defined views and said parameter are equal.
Another way of defining said self destruction condition comprises defining a certain time interval beginning from the time said time interval is defined after which said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location, and here, said self destruction parameter is defined as a timer. Said time interval and said parameter are compared by a counter after every unit of time, wherein said unit of time is defined. Said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location when the value of said parameter is equal to that of said time interval.
Said social computing based community comprises a plurality of users who communicate and interact amongst themselves using said service and the communication and interaction amongst said plurality of users is achieved by using (but not limited to) self destructive videos.
In the method, said self destructive videos, when copied or replicated, independent of the medium they are in, possess the same self destruction parameters in the metadata which are uploaded and downloaded along with the video. Hence, for example, if a video is created and uploaded and the video's associated self destruction parameter is defined to destroy (remove) the video automatically from any device it exists in after one year, then independent of where the video is stored, how it is stored and how it is being used, said video is automatically removed, i.e., the video self destroys exactly one year after said video's self destruction was defined. The present invention is a method of video interaction that implements sending, receiving, posting and sharing of self destructive videos over social computing sites, applications and services. This method enables the creator of a video to set/define a self destruction condition in the metadata of the video after creation of the video and before making it available to others in a social network via personal point to point messaging, one to many messaging, post made available publically or to a customized target audience.
The present invention is a method of video interaction using self destructive videos in electronic devices. The method involves creating a self destructive video, based on an input received from a first user, by integrating a self destruction parameter to the metadata of an ordinary video, in a first electronic device. An ordinary video here refers to any video that is created and/or stored in the memory of said first electronic device, and is not a self destructing video. The method also involves uploading said self destructive video, based on an input received from said first user, from said first electronic device to a server associated with a social computing based community and service. Said service is a software application and/or service that comprises both online as well as offline aspects. Said social computing based community is a social network of users who interact and communicate with each other using said service. The method involves providing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) (107) using which said user uses said service.
The method also involves, based on an input received from a second user, downloading said self destructive video from said server into a second electronic device. The method also comprises based on an input received from said first user and/or said second user, posting and/or sharing said self destructive video in said social computing based community. To achieve self destruction of said self destroying video, a self destruction condition is defined in said metadata, based on an input received from said first user. This is followed by automatically removing said self destructive video from at least one defined location when said self destruction condition is reached.
The method involves using said self destruction parameter to check whether said self destruction condition is reached/satisfied.
Said counter can be implemented as (but not limited to) a software module.
Said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location when said number of defined views and said parameter are said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location when said number of defined views and said parameter are found to be equal by said counter.
Another way of defining said self destruction condition comprises defining a certain time interval beginning from the time said time interval is defined after which said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location, and here, said self destruction parameter is defined as a timer. The timer is a specialized type of clock for measuring time intervals. It counts upwards from zero and has comparison logic to compare the timer value against the time interval value defined. Said time interval and said parameter are compared by a counter after every unit of time, wherein said unit of time is defined. Said unit of time can be in terms of (but not limited to) seconds. This counter can be implemented as (but not limited to) a software module. Said self destructive video is automatically removed from said at least one defined location when the values of said parameter and said time interval are found to be equal by said counter. In the method, said self destructive video is automatically removed without any interference from any user .The original uploader of a video can re-define/modify a self destruction condition of an uploaded/posted self destruction parameter.
In the method, said self destructive videos, when copied or replicated, independent of the medium they are in, possess the same self destruction parameters in the metadata which are uploaded and downloaded along with the video. Hence, for example, if a video is created and uploaded and the video's associated self destruction condition is defined to destroy (remove) the video from any device it exists in after one year, then independent of where the video is stored, how it is stored and how it is being used, said video is automatically removed, i.e., the video self destroys exactly one year after said video's self destruction was defined.
