Description

ADVERTISEMENT AND INFORMATION SUBMISSION DEVICE FOR A
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE
Technical Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a locational advertisement and information submission device having GPS and GPRS connectivity and configured to function as a smart communication hardware in a traveling vehicle.
Background of the Invention
Location-based advertisements are known per se and particularly an advertisement device in a commercial vehicle such as a taxi or bus, fulfilling informational purposes as well as displaying advertisements to passengers is known.
In particular, a geographically activated advertisement system displays an advertisement associated with a mobile vehicle's real-time geographical location in the form of a special location-based advertisement. Such an information and/or advertisement device typically comprises a mobile advertisement unit ensuring that that real-time information can be conveyed to passengers through a communication network, the latter typically associated with a mobile operator or service provider. Such advertisements may generally be displayed on a mobile advertising unit having an integrated Geographic Positioning System (GPS) unit. Location-based parameters may be integrated with a time preference for the advertisement in question. Therefore, it is possible that a locational advertisement preference may be overwritten by a time preference, i.e. when certain time conditions are met additional to certain location-based conditions.
The present invention on the other hand improves the above-outlined general approach to involve further specific embodiments such that for instance a given passenger's Internet browsing data is usable to initiate certain specific advertisements.
Among others, a prior art patent reference in the technical field of the present invention can be referred to as US2012310740A1, which discloses a mechanism for geographically-aware electronic traveling advertisements. The method of US2012310740A1 includes displaying each of a plurality of advertisements on an electronic display of a mobile advertising unit in a general rotation and on a random basis, determining a current location of the mobile advertising unit from a GPS unit and a current time from a clock, interrupting the general rotation to display a high priority advertisement if the current location of the mobile advertising unit is within a GPS waypoint range of the high-priority advertisement, interrupting the general rotation to display a high priority advertisement if the current time of the mobile advertising unit is within a time range of the high- priority advertisement, and recording statistics for each advertisement displayed on the electronic display in a log stored at the mobile advertising unit.
The present invention distinguishes in that the input data as to the advertisement to be displayed is directly obtainable from a given passenger. For instance, according to the present invention, time-specific interests of a system user can be deduced from his/her Internet communications and browsing activities within the scope of his/her consent.
Therefore, an Internet connection established via a GSM network operator in a vehicle such as a taxicab is made available to passengers and a given passenger's Internet browsing data is used to initiate specific ads.
The core software system running on the smart advertisement and information device according to the present invention therefore provides dynamic prioritization of advertisements so that a given advertisement, which was programmed for display only within a predefined GPS range is cancelled due to the fact that a taxi passenger's Internet browsing activity predominantly focuses on another certain product item that was not previously scheduled for advertisement and that might well fall outside the actual GPS range in respect of a specific location associated with the product or service that the passenger has shown interest.
Objects of the Invention
Primary object of the present invention is to provide submission of user-specific advertisements in a mobile vehicle such that passengers are presented with advertisements matching their interests Another object of the present invention is to provide submission of advertisements in a mobile vehicle during traveling such that passengers are presented with advertisements on a location-based manner.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide submission of advertisements in a mobile vehicle such that the input data as to the advertisement to be displayed is directly obtainable from a given passenger.
Further an object of the present invention is to provide submission of advertisements in a mobile vehicle such that advertisements having relevance to the search queries entered in specified Internet search engines are displayed on a locational basis.
Still further an object of the present invention is to provide submission of advertisements in a mobile vehicle such that demographic data of passengers in a vehicle are determined and accordingly used as an input parameter to make a prioritization selection on the list of scheduled advertisements
Summary of the Invention The present invention relates to a locational advertisement and information submission device having GPS and GPRS connectivity and configured to function as a smart communication hardware in a mobile vehicle. The present invention relates to an advertisement and information submission device of a type in which information/and or advertisements are provided to passengers in a traveling vehicle such that the position of a vehicle in terms of GPS coordinates may be used as one of the parameters to determine the initiation of the submission.
An external terminal of communication can be provided according to the present invention, the latter in communication with the advertisement and information submission device of the invention such that a user can interact with the advertisement and information submission device so as to provide input in relation to his/her interests. The external terminal of communication may be a keypad or a camera-based communication system running a piece of special software for converting visual signs such as in the case of sign language into verbal/written input and vice versa. The software can therefore implement transformation of spoken language into sign language.
The present invention also ensures that, subject to the consent of a given passenger, the user's Internet browsing activity or search queries he/she types in search engines are used as input for scheduling an advertisement relevant to this user-originated data.
Further, the present invention also provides that advertisements having relevance to the search queries in specified Internet search engines are displayed on a locational basis. For example, the most popular search queries obtained from a plurality of Internet search engines entered by users in a specific district of a city may optionally be associated with GPS data such that prioritized advertisements are determined.
The invention further provides that demographic data of passengers traveling in a vehicle are determined by a special piece of software as in the case of a face recognition software that is able to determine the gender of a given passenger such that this information is used as an input parameter to make a prioritization selection on the list of scheduled advertisements. Further, another aspect of the present invention lies in that the advertisement and information submission device of the invention is able to communicate with billboards in the vicinity of the vehicle while the latter is in motion. Therefore content in a billboard the vehicle passes by is remotely modified by the advertisement and information submission device in the vehicle such that passengers in the vehicle are presented with a more relevant advertisement to their interests. The selection of the advertisement can be made based on any of the approached provided by the present invention. For example, users' own browsing activities and/or demographic information or locational search engine queries can be used in this respect.
Detailed Description of the Invention The present invention relates to an advertisement and information submission device by means of which information and/or advertisements are provided to passengers in a traveling vehicle such that the position of a vehicle can be used as one of the decisive parameters to determine the initiation of the advertisement submission.
The system preferably comprises a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, a processing unit, a display unit, a communication module and a software platform. The communication module typically effects remote information exchange and comprises hardware to establish a remote connection and connectable to a computer or server over TCP/IP via LAN, WAN or Internet connection. This can be achieved by any known configuration, for instance through a GSM mobile network or wireless connection by using any wireless communication protocol. The mobile framework can use protocols and application environments such as GSM, WAP, and WLL.
A typical arrangement of the GPS module integrated advertisement and information submission device is that specific advertisements are presented to passengers in a mobile vehicle based on the location of the vehicle in terms of GPS coordinates. Typically, a fashion brand's advertisement may be placed on the display unit if this brand's shop is located in a nearby shopping mall.
The present invention provides an improved system advantageous in that the input data as to the advertisement to be displayed is directly obtainable from an external source of information such as for instance from a given passenger. For instance, according to one embodiment of the present invention, Internet connection realized via a GSM network operator in a taxi is made available to passengers and a given passenger's Internet browsing data is used to initiate specific ads.
To this end, users' consent is sought to share their browsing data, which might include private data such as in the case of entered search queries. Alternatively, users can be demanded to complete a short survey having a limited number of questions. The information obtained from a plurality of users is processed on an anonymous basis such that special words associatable with the present advertisements already on schedule are sought. Relevance and frequency of each and every word inputted by users is then anonymously processed to specify a realtime priority list for scheduling advertisements. The core software system running on the smart advertisement and information submission device according to the present invention provides dynamic prioritization of advertisements so that a given advertisement, which was programmed for display within a GPS range is cancelled due to the fact that a taxi passenger's Internet browsing activity focuses on another certain product item that was not previously scheduled for advertisement and that is even outside the GPS range of a specific location associated with the product that the passenger has shown interest. When prioritizing different advertisements, actual location of the vehicle can therefore be ignored based on preset rules. Further, the present invention also provides that advertisements having relevance to the search queries typed in specified Internet search engines are displayed on a locational basis. Therefore, Internet search queries are used as another external source of information by the invention. For example, the most popular search queries obtained from a plurality of Internet search engines entered by users in a specific district of a city are optionally be associated with actual location data of the vehicle such that prioritized advertisements are determined. Location-specific search engine data being commercially available, this can advantageously offer a non-local traveler local products and services of interest to him/her in a certain place being visited. In other words, an advertisement product or service associated with popular search queries entered in a certain district are displayed within a predetermined range from the locational center associated with said product or service in said district. The search queries from a plurality of Internet search engines may be processed on a static or real-time basis in order for dynamically scheduling advertisements in a traveling vehicle. It is to be noted that the search query information in a part of a city may be used alone independent from the distance from the locational center associated with the advertised product or service in the district. This can also advantageously raise interest of persons travelling in the specified part of the city.
An external terminal of communication is provided according to the present invention, the latter preferably in wireless communication with the advertisement and information submission device of the invention such that a user can interact with the advertisement and information submission device so as to provide input in relation to his/her interests. The external terminal of communication may have a keypad, a loudspeaker and a camera such that the system runs a piece of special software for converting visual signs such as in the case of sign language into verbal/written input and vice versa. The software can therefore implement transformation of spoken language into sign language. It is worthy of note that spoken language sign language machine translation is long practiced and several commercial software products are available in the market. It should be noted that verbal or written translation between different foreign languages can also be performed such that for instance a tourist can communicate with the operator through said external terminal of communication. The operator can use predefined phrases in this respect or can participate in the conversation.
The present invention further provides that demographic data of passengers traveling in a vehicle are determined by a special piece of software as in the case of a face-recognition software that is able to determine the gender of a given passenger such that this information is used as an input parameter to make a prioritization selection on the list of scheduled advertisements. Therefore, demographic data of passengers is used as another external source of information by the invention. The demographic data in relation to passengers may for instance include gender, age, race and ethnicity. The visual input captured by the camera of said external terminal of communication is typically processed by the special software to make an estimation for individual demographic parameters. It is known to the person skilled in the art that many different systems including security and authentication systems available in the market can perform face recognition and/or other similar tasks including recognition of sign language using 3D visual cues.
Further, another aspect of the present invention lies in that the advertisement and information submission device of the invention is able to communicate with billboards in the vicinity of the vehicle while the latter is in motion. Therefore the content in a billboard in direct vicinity of the vehicle is remotely modified in a dynamic manner while the vehicle passes by such that a passenger in the vehicle is presented with an advertisement matching his/her interests. This provides that more relevant advertisements are displayed on bigger screens in a real-time manner.
It is to be noted that the billboards are not necessarily required to show the same advertisements of the same category (such as a Billboard may show a different brand) if the search queries of the area (such as city part A) are the same with the passenger (for example if both area and passenger searched hotel at most, at taxi Hotel X ad may be running where on the billboard Hotel Y ad runs) as well as the ability of showing a whole different advertisement (in a case such as the area has a different highest search ratio than the passenger). The billboards equipped with wireless communication means and respective processing units can therefore perform the requested operation of dynamically modifying an advertisement content. The selection of the advertisement can be made based on any of the approaches provided by the present invention. For example, users' own browsing habits and/or demographic information as well as locational search engine queries can (individually or in a combination) be used as the external source of information in this respect. The present invention therefore also provides a billboard, i.e. a stationary advertisement display unit that is equipped with wireless communication (as well as GPS, GPRS and led/ldc and other various screens and internal memory) means so as to be connectable to a computer or server over TCP/IP via LAN, WAN or Internet connection. This can be achieved by any known configuration, for instance through a GSM mobile network.
The billboards according to the present invention are hence connectable to a remote terminal for effecting remote information exchange. The advantage of this lies in that vehicles in motion having the advertisement and information submission device of the invention can communicate with the billboards in a certain distance range such that they can obtain an approximate locational information for themselves without using GPS connection that might involve extra fees and is more power consuming. The billboards having GPS and mobile network connectivity therefore automatically communicate their exact coordinates to the advertisement and information submission devices. The final locational information in this case is based on the approximate distance of a given vehicle in respect of one or a plurality of billboards as calculated by the advertisement and information submission device. This information is optionally combined in use when processing information obtained from the external sources of information, that is user-originated Internet habits, search engine popular queries and users' demographic data (individually or in combination). Alternatively, additional to billboards, locations of interests such as locational centers associated with a product or service to be advertised can also accommodate hardware in remote communication with the mobile advertisement and information submission devices according to the present invention. Further, it is also possible that billboards directly communicate with the mobile advertisement and information submission devices in the vicinity to initiate certain ads in the vehicle by overwriting in-vehicle advertisement routines. The advertisement and information submission device according to the invention may comprise an additional unit for authenticating an operator, i.e. the driver of the commercial vehicle. Such an authentication unit can be equipped with a fingerprint reader, an ID card reader (i.e. MIFARE card), an ID/IB/TOM key reader, a blood test unit, a camera or a combination thereof. Alternatively or additionally, face recognition and/or password authentication can be performed. Overworking drivers or operators can therefore be identified. Further, said external terminal of communication and/or the main unit is provided with an emergency button so as to allow the operator and passengers to convey an emergency situation message to security units and/or health professionals.
It is also possible that the external terminal of communication is connectable to an additional peripheral in the form of a payment processing means such as for instance a debit card processing device, i.e. a point-of-sale (POS) machine. It is to be noted that the main unit and/or said external terminal of communication can accomplish face recognition tasks and process payments based on the authenticated identities of passengers. In this way, the advertisement and information submission device according to the invention is optionally provided with additional functions by means of peripheral or in the form of integrated modules. It is to be noted that face-recognition based identity authentication is currently practiced for performing banking transactions on a limited scale. Further, an advantageous adaptation associated with NFC technology is successfully made by the present invention such that an NFC module in communication with the main unit and/or said external terminal of communication is provided to effect payments. Such an NFC card reader module provides an additional advantage of faster payment processing compared to a POS machine. An NFC module embedded in the display unit of the advertisement and information submission device or a in a display unit of said external terminal of communication, is alternatively used such that a given user is offered certain promotional discounts or gifts in response to swiping his/her NFC-enabled device such as a smartphone over the NFC module in the course of a respective advertisement.
The mobile vehicle within the definition according to the present invention can be any transportation system capable of carrying passengers such as a railway train, bus, taxi, ferry, metro, trams etc. The GPS receiver module which may be one of a variety known to those skilled in the art typically receives the position information signal from a satellite system and outputs it to said smart advertisement and information submission device. The most basic information being processed can comprise speed, location (current latitude/longitude), distance and direction. The advertisement system according to the present invention uses a centralized remote database accessed by the advertisement and information submission device to obtain updates on advertisement and associated location tables (if any) and/or location-based Internet search engines data such that the in-vehicle advertisement routines are updated at least on an hourly basis.
In a nutshell, the present invention proposes a vehicle-embedded advertisement and information submission system comprising an advertisement and information submission device having a display unit effecting advertisement and information submissions, a communication module connectable to a remote terminal for effecting remote information exchange and a processing unit overseeing the operation of advertisement and information submission, characterized in that said advertisement and information submission device uses an input data for making a selection as to an advertisement to be displayed, said input data being directly obtainable from an external source of information.
