Definitions

  • the invention refers to a method for the treatment of infectious risk residues, cytostatic and cytotoxic residues and residues of non-cytostatic drugs and a device for the implementation of said procedure. More particularly, the object of the invention focuses on a common treatment system for infectious waste, cytostatic waste and pharmaceutical waste that achieves sterilization of infectious waste, and inertization of the active cytostatic and non-cytostatic pharmaceutical active ingredients, by a process physicochemical based on advanced oxidation, for which, said procedure contemplates the use of the same equipment that essentially comprises a crushing and grinding unit for the crushing and grinding of waste and an advanced oxidation treatment reactor where it is produced the addition and mixing of different oxidants, according to each type of residue. The resulting solid residue is deposited in a solids deposit and is disposed of as an urban waste after carrying out the corresponding analyzes.
  • the field of application of the present invention is part of the industry sector dedicated to the treatment of waste in general, among others to the treatment of infectious risk residues, cytostatic and cytotoxic residues and pharmaceutical residues.
  • Infectious risk wastes are generated as a result of maternity activities, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of human and animal diseases and they must follow a specific treatment of high-level disinfection or sterilization, as defined in the different national regulations, as well as the recommendations of international organizations such as the World Health Organization.
  • Contaminated materials acquire a category of hazardous waste and are disposed of by health personnel, and are coded in the European Waste List (LER) with the following codes: LER 180103, 180202.

  • Cytostatic and cytotoxic residues are those that come from cancer chemotherapy treatments and are toxic products for cells. They are generated at the hospital level in the stages of reconstitution, administration and care of the patient undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Said contaminated material is encoded with LER codes 180108, 180207 and 200131.
  • the objective of the present invention is therefore to be able to carry out the treatment of these three types of waste from the sanitary field with the same system based on a physical-chemical process in the same equipment by means of an advanced oxidation treatment that will be specific for each type of waste, a characteristic that none of the current sanitary waste treatment systems has, and that makes this treatment system unique.
