[57] ABSTRACT
An interactive learning system is disclosed that includes a note-making lacility, a mentor lacility, and an editor lacility as its major subsystems. The note-making lacility allows the user to create notes while scanning through an electronic text file that is accessible from a suitable memory space. The mentor lacility provides content-specific information in response to the selection ol certain passages or quotations from the text file by the user. The editor lacility provides generalized learning strategies and recommendations usefrxl in the analysis ol text and the preparation ol a written report. The information provided by the editor lacility is generalized, and hence is not specific to the current text file; in contrast, the mentor lacility is content-specific, and furnishes the user with information that is specifically related to the text under review.
