Extra-low dispersion glass Internal focusing Bright maximum aperture Sport and action photography in particular benefit from the Nikon 180mm f/2.8D IF-ED telephoto prime lens’ focal length, bright aperture and Extra-low Dispersion glass. The light weight and relatively compact size, compared to a zoom lens such as the 70-200mm f/2.8, make the Nikon 180mm f/2.8D IF-ED an excellent companion when travelling, and is especially useful when attached to a portable body such as a D7000 or a smaller full frame DSLR. The lack of a focus motor means the D3100, D5100 and similar can not autofocus when the lens it attached, but all other functions are maintained. The Nikon 180mm f/2.8D IF-ED offers extra-low dispersion optics to keep chromatic aberration to a minimum, and similarly the f/2.8 maximum aperture allows for fast shutter speeds and keeps the focus speed rapid. The internal focusing means a circular polariser or square filter will not be affected when readjusting as the front element stays static.
