Erected in the XII century, this rose coloured, sandstone fortress dominates the forests of the Northern Vosges.
Known as a sort of capital in the Middle Ages, the halls, the stairs, the wells and the cisterns of the troglodytic castle were carved directly out of the rock.
It’s open for self-touring, and there is an optional 3-hour, playful tour of the “Château des Défis” (Challenge Castle) as well as a sandstone and forest playspace “le P’tit Fleck” for kids aged 3 to 6; this exceptional place is fun for all ages.
The castle is located along the trails of large hiking paths, along which you can also access the medieval playground of Gimblehof, the “Path of Legends” in Germany, a tour of the 4 castles, and the iron mine of Nothweiler.
