Legrain carved this tabouret out of one piece of wood--like the Ngombe chair that inspired it. A cantilevered backrest curves away from the rear legs and four solid legs support the seat. Though similar to the African stool, Legrain's materials and ornamentation conform more to the French moderne style of lacquered surfaces and geometric designs. This tabouret is painted with a translucent, deep red lacquer, revealing the rich brown color of the wood beneath. On the seat, a pattern of triangles cut in relief forms a pyramid reaching the top of the backrest. Pieces of horn cover the feet of the four legs.
