Johnny Greene

Johnny Greene joined the Macalester golf program as assistant coach at the beginning of the 2019 fall golf season. He became the interim head coach in March of 2020 and was elevated to head coach in January of 2021.

Since Greene became head coach, the golf program has grown both in size and competitiveness and has shattered many school records. In fall 2022, the men’s and women’s teams earned their best finish in the MIAC Championships in over 15 years, with the women's team received votes in the national poll for the first time since 2008.

Greene began coaching golf in 2010 at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota. In 2017, he was hired by Apple Valley High School as their head boys’ golf coach.

After earning his degree in Economics from Purdue University's Krannert School of Management, Greene had a brief career as a digital marketer before reclaiming his passion for golf. While working at Totally Driven Golf, he earned his certification from the Titleist Performance Institute to further his lesson and coaching knowledge.

At the beginning of the 2017 golf season, Greene accepted an assistant golf professional job at Bearpath Golf and Country Club. His responsibilities included running the 5-to-7 and 8-to-11-year-old junior golf camps and giving private and group lessons the older junior golfers.

“I feel very fortunate to be part of this team, school and athletics department,” Greene said. “Macalester College has felt like a perfect fit since day one. I’m eager to help the golf program and its golfers achieve their goals.”

Greene lives in St. Louis Park with his loving wife, Kaye, daughter Emmy, and two cats, Maz and Willie.
