In 1964, she published her first Wexford book “From Doon with Death”, which was the beginning of the popular television series “Inspector Reginald Wexford”, starring British actor George Baker. Many of her works were also adopted for feature films such as “Diary of the Dead” (1976), “A Judgment in Stone” (1986), “Live Flesh” (1997) and “The Tree of Hands” (2001). Plus her “The Ruth Rendell Mysteries”, ran 48 TV episodes from 1987 to 2000. In a career spanning 50 years, she wrote more than sixty novels. Many were translated into more than 20 languages, with worldwide sales of over 60 million. She was awarded a (CBE) Commander of the British Empire in 1996 and conferred as Baroness Rendell of Babergh, in 1997. She died of a stroke at age 85.
