William L. "Bill" Haskins of Athens, Tenn., died Feb. 21, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn. Born on Feb. 17, 1927, in Eagan, Tenn., he was the only child of Harry and Edna Lowe Haskins. He later moved to Etowah, Tenn., and graduated from Etowah High School in 1944. He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen J. Haskins; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Diane Haskins of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Will Dender of Riceville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Evan and Allison Haskins, and Chase and Liza Dender; sister-in-law, Maxine Johnston Harwood of Etowah; nephews, Joel Harwood of Etowah and William Harwood of Columbia, S.C. Funeral services 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home, in Athens, Tenn., with Rev. Joe Miller and Rev. Don Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Etowah, Tenn.
