Ligeia Marie Hall Lamberty, 51, Kansas City, KS, died on Monday, July 9, 2007 at home after a three year battle with breast cancer.

Ligeia was born on March 23, 1956 in Covina California to William and Alida Hall. She moved to the Oakdale and Tilden Nebraska area with her mother at the age of two and grew up there. Ms. Lamberty received a B.A. from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with a major in Radio/TV journalism in 1979. She married Lynn Lamberty in Lincoln, NE the same year. Over the next six years, Ligeia put her broadcasting skills to work in the Nebraska communities of Chadron, Grand Island and Lincoln. In 1985 she shifted careers to begin a long period of teaching English as a Second Language to students ranging from new immigrants to graduate teaching assistants. Her teaching career followed her through Crete, Nebraska, Norman, Oklahoma, Houston, Texas and Kansas City, MO. She received a Masters of Education from the University of Houston in 1995, with an emphasis on Second Language Instruction. In 2000, she took a break from teaching to work for the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, an international non-profit group offering support to needy children and elderly people, assisting that organization in various ways until her cancer made it impossible for her to continue working.

Ligeia inspired many with her spirit, determination and good humor both before and after her cancer diagnosis. As the wife of the pastor of University United Methodist Church in Kansas City, KS, for the past ten years, she was a faithful visionary, leader and worker. She loved people and animals and sought to bring harmony to her community. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Rev. Lynn B. Lamberty, Senior Pastor of University United Methodist Church, Kansas City, KS; her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Keith Whitelaw, Denver Colorado, nephew Christopher Bragg, Denver, niece Elizabeth Bragg, New York City and numerous members of her extended family.
