The Troubled Minecraft Movie Finally Has a Release Date - Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

The troubled Minecraft movie from Warner Bros. finally has a release date.

Warner Bros. announced that its adaptation of the video game will hit theaters on April 4, 2025. Currently, the only listed cast member is Jason Momoa, who we heard was in negotiations to voice the main protagonist last year. The announcement also officially lists Jared Hess as director, who is known for directing Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.

The history of Minecraft's development dates back nearly ten years, when Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy left Warner Bros.' Minecraft project. Since then, the project has seen a handful of directors drop out.

Warner Bros. also announced changes elsewhere in its theatrical release schedule. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — which also stars Momoa — and The Color Purple have swapped dates. Aquaman 2 is now coming on December 20, 2023, while The Color Purple will hit theaters five days later on December 25.

The Wizard of Oz spinoff Toto has been removed from its February 2, 2024 slot. The movie is currently unscheduled, and the Robert DeNiro-led The Wise Guys has taken its place. Finally, an untitled DC movie that was set for September 22 of this year has been removed from the schedule.
