Broadway actor Aaron Tveit tests positive for coronavirus

Theater actor Aaron Tveit, who was starring as Christian in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” before the Broadway shutdown earlier this month, has tested positive for coronavirus.

“Hey everyone. I just wanted to update you all that I’ve found out that I’ve tested positive for Covid-19,” Tveit wrote in an Instagram post on Monday. “I’ve been in quarantine since Broadway shows shut down on Thursday, March 12th, and I’m feeling much better.”

Page Six learned last week that two cast members from “Moulin Rouge” have tested positive for coronavirus. We’re told that both are monitoring symptoms and are in isolation. It is unclear if Tveit was one of them or if he is an additional case.

The production has notified those who worked with them directly, according to the show. “Our thoughts are with our affected company members and their families,” the producers said in a statement. “We are pursuing every avenue possible for expanded testing and have encouraged everyone in the ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical Family’ to self-quarantine.”

Tveit, who also appeared on TV’s “Gossip Girl,” said on Instagram that he considers himself lucky because his symptoms have been mild. Most significantly, he has been experiencing “the loss of taste and smell, which I think is a big sign for people who are otherwise asymptotic.”

Tveit, 36, said he was tested on March 16 and just got the results back.

“I have been taking this situation extremely seriously, even before I was tested,” he wrote. “I want everyone to realize that this can affect anyone. And even if you aren’t feeling sick or showing drastic symptoms – please take heed, stay safe, stay healthy and I hope to see everyone at the theater again soon.”.

“Moulin Rouge” had canceled a performance prior to theaters being shut down out of an abundance of caution after one of the cast members had a fever.

A growing list of celebrities, including Andy Cohen, Tom Hanks and Idris Elba, have announced they’ve tested positive for coronavirus.
