Conversations: The Gore Vidal Collection

The Department of Special & Area Studies collections is pleased to invite you to the unveiling of a newly-donated collection covering the life and works of Gore Vidal. The Gore Vidal Collection contains over 1,000 books, articles and ephemera relating to Vidal’s publications across seven decades, from working drafts and screenplays to translations of his books and articles into more than thirty languages. It served as the basis for the authoritative bibliography of Vidal’s writings, and will allow for new areas of research into the pressing political and social issues of Vidal’s times.

This Thursday, 10/12, at 2:00PM in Smathers Library Room 100, we will be holding a conversation with Steven Abbott and Jim Stephens, the donors and builders of this collection, about their experiences with Vidal and the relevance of this work for the study of publishing, journalism, and freedom of expression.

Refreshments will be served, and items from the collection will be on display which cover the whole range of Vidal’s publications and public appearances.
