An auction house in Maine is auctioning off several works by Chadds Ford’s Andrew Wyeth, including a study of the renowned Olson House, writes Donna Isbell Walker for the Greenville (S.C.) News.

The Olson House is the backdrop for one of the artist’s most iconic paintings, “Christina’s World.” The mixed-media piece was painted in 1942 and was gifted to Christina Olson who posed for the painting.

The starting price for the work is $37,500, but it is expected to fetch between $75,000 and $100,000 or even more.

“The one piece is historically important because it was done before the big painting of ‘Christina’s World,’” said Kaja Veilleux, president and owner of Thomaston Place Auction Galleries.

“The fact that it was presented to Christina and (Christina’s brother) Alvaro from Andy directly when he was working out of their home was pretty significant.”

The auction will also feature “Spruce Timber” (a watercolor from 1946), “Hay Ledge” (a fine art print), and a limited-edition portfolio and signed photograph of the artist.
