After WWII traveled many times to the United States, where he worked as an illustrator for various publishing houses. A superly talented artist.

The title is rumoured to have been taken from an Aztec treatise on the necessity of human sacrifice but it is better known from Le Vieux Condelier (Camille Desmoulins) which criticized the Jacobins, a key figure in this story. Anatole France (1844-1924) was a French poet, journalist and novelist. France won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1921 and was a member of the Académie Française.

La reliure est en très bon état avec très peu d?usure au cuir mais une usure à la charnière frontale du dos (partie supérieure, voir l?image). Notons un petit accroc à la dorure de la tranche supérieure des pages. L?intérieur est sans reproche. Le reliieur a ajouté en début de volume une page à laquelle a été collédeux portraits de l?auteur tirés probablement de revues ou journaux de l?époque.
