Octavo, boards. First edition. Signed by Merril. "Future society that has become stultified in a caste structure. Shows the difficulty of convincing people that their ideology does not reflect the true state of affairs." - Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature, 1516-1985, p. 243. "The hero belongs to an almost monastic order of future warriors, whose members are thoroughly indoctrinated and sexually repressed. Naturally, he rebels -- which leads him on to picaresque and sometimes humorous adventures in the outside worlds. An enjoyable (though now rather dated) adventure story." - Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, second edition, p. 164. A fine copy in very good dust jacket with several creases to spine panel and touch of wear at spine ends and corner tips. (#73681).
