Crying the praises of the One God, a mystical young woman named Mina has appeared out of a magical storm and overrun the land with her army of dark-armored knights. The elven land of Silvanesti has fallen prey to their might. The young elf king has fallen prey to Mina's amber eyes.
Meanwhile, the great dragon overlord Beryl launches an attack against the people living under her rule. As her dragonarmy swarms the Citadel of Light, Palin and Tasslehoff are forced to flee and are rescued only by the interference of a mysterious person from their past. The elves of Qualinesti must choose between exile from their beloved homeland or death by a dragon's wrath. Even Goldmoon leaves her people, compelled to follow a growing river of souls that flows northward to a dark and dreaded land.
It seems that no one can stand against the powerful and relentless entity guiding the devastating events on Krynn. At last one lone dragon seeks out an old enemy, vowing at any cost to find the answers to the mystery that is the One God.

Every time I purchase another Margaret Weiss/Tracy Hickman Dragonlance book I have a job to put it down, & then when I have finished reading it I want to read another one!

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Better than Fallen Sun
Commenté aux États-Unis le 11 août 2001
This book is a much better book than its predecessor, Dragons of a Fallen Sun. I finished the book in a day, that's how engrossing it is so I urge you not to get this book if you don't have the time to commit to it. The writing is similar to that of Weis/Hickman books of the past by writing the events that occur to different characters intermittedly (i.e. Chapter 1 about character "a", then chapter 2 about character "b", etc.). The one problem I have with it is that it always wants me to read more because they always end the chapter at the most interesting part only to pick it up later. Other than that, the storyline is somewhat predictable if you are an avid reader of fantasy (particularly of Weis/Hickman). The identity of the One God was so obvious......But the book does have it's moments and there is more than enough action to satisfy readers. Perhaps the most annoying thing in the book is Tasselhoff, he was okay back in the day but he has been steadily annoying the hell out of me in the last couple of Weis/Hickman DragonLance books; he should definitely die (and stay dead) in the next one (I hope). All in all a great book; I eagerly await the release of the last book, Dragons of a Vanished Moon. If you are into Fantasy at all, pick up this book and it's predecessors (CHRONICLES, LEGENDS, Dragons of Summer Flame, and Dragons of a Lost Star) for they are some of the best. Once you read them, you'll know what I mean.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles The One Nameless God Revealed, Part II
Commenté aux États-Unis le 11 décembre 2010
Bottom-Line: If you enjoyed the other books in the DragonLance series "Dragons of a Lost Star" is a must read.

Following close on the heals (a year) of Dragons of a Fallen Star (DragonLance The War of Souls Volume I) publisher Wizards of The Coast released the next book in the series "Dragons of a Lost Star (DragonLance The War of Souls Volume II)" once again written and released by the DragonLance masters, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

The first installment, Dragons of a Fallen Sun, sets up another epic conflict set some 40 years after the close of the Chaos War, and some eighty years after the War of the Lance. A lot has transpired since the ending of the Chaos War in which the Gods that held sway over Kyrnn have quit the planet taking with them the moons that used to act as source for all magic. And out of the North from Dragon Isle, a slew of great dragons have appeared and after having purged the land of opposing dragons--good and evil--now hold sway over all of Ansalon.

As War of Souls Volume I ended Mina young champion of the One God knew noting but victory in her quest to spread the word of the One God's coming. She had gathered around her a loyal army of followers who were mesmerized by her amber eyes and willingly followed her ever command despite her lack of (any) real military experience. The result Krynn is one again at war.

In this second installment of the trilogy Mina who lets face it is modeled after Joan-of-Arc, is further spreads the influence of the One God across the land. Her main target this time around is the Elves of Silvanesti and their leader Silvanoshei who falls madly in love with red-headed herald. But Mina manipulates that love and causes Silvanoshei, the Elf king to destroy the cursed magical shield protecting the Silvanesti (but which is slowly killing the Elves), but not before she revels and then slays the great green dragon Cyan Bloodbane (who had been masquerading as an elf). After the shield is lowered bad things happen.

And the other homeland of the Elves, Qualinesti, is also attacked, by the bloated and hated green dragon Beryl and her army of mercenaries. Meanwhile, after subjugating Silvanesti Mina moves on to Solanthus, the heretofore impenetrable city and stronghold of the Solmanic Knights. Meanwhile the souls of the dead continue rob the living of their magic and newly young Goldmoon, Mistress of the Citadel of Light, follows their path to Nighlund where they mysteriously gather.

The majority of the suspense in "Dragons of a Lost Star" is built around the fate of the Qualisenti elves. Their cousins the Silvanesti are quickly dealt with, and what befalls the Qualisenti is heartbreaking for those of us who love the long-lived characters. I, for one, like the Elves, favorites of the Palendine, God of Light, so it was hard for me to see them brought low. Weis and Hickman unravel the story of Qualisenti slowly allowing the reader to become fully vested in the Kingdom before the tragic end. But they still leave us with a thread of hope upon which to cling.

Tassalhof Burrfoot is back in this book as well and plays a pivotal role in unearthing what has happened to the world. Palin the Mage is back as well, and so to is Dalamar the Dark Elf. Sir Gerard is back and a new character is introduced, a Solmanic Knight by the name of Odila, who first captures, spars, and then champions Gerard.

Checking in at 550 pages, "Dragons of a Lost Star" contains many, many references to books in the series that came before it, not only the other books in the Chronicles series, but those in the DragonLance Legends series as well, in which Raistlin enters the Abyss in a failed attempt to become a god. I highly recommend at least reading Dragons of Summer Flame, in which the Chaos War took place, and of course Dragons of a Fallen Star, before reading this book.

Weis and Hickman once again offer up a gem of a book with (some) detailed characters descriptions--though once again the characters are not as well developed as they could be. The book few new characters, which is just as well since there is a lot going on and the book jumps from one story to the next with alacrity. But the stories all relate to one another and all intertwine and set up the climatic end of the book in which the one God is reveled.

Conclusion

If you enjoyed the other books in the DragonLance series, "Dragons of a Lost Star" will certainly satisfy your need for more adventuring on Krynn. Like other series in the DragonLance sagas, the book pushes our heroes to the breaking point, but never completely breaks them. Death is a very real part of this book; thousand die, but Krynn lives on; will this planet ever be at peace and has it been moved? Have the God deserted Kyrnn, or has Krynn deserted the Gods?

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Believe In The Power of The One God

I picked up the first book of The War of Souls trilogy five years ago; it was my first Dragonlance trilogy. Five years later I've come full circle, reading the War of Souls again, aware of its full history. I speak of The War of Souls trilogy from the aspects of a new reader and seasoned historian of the world of Ansalon, the world of Dragonlance.

If you are like me this book will make as good of a first trilogy as it will a last of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's. The book continues an excellent second book The War of Souls. Its writing and development is as compelling as any other trilogy; Weis and Hickman worked just as hard drawing unique and interesting characters and storylines. I stand amazed at the quality of their writing, hoping that they will continue telling these tales for years to come.

Read Dragons of a Lost Star and sit with me at the Inn of the Last Home, basking in the world of fantasy that will become a home for your imagination.
