Alan Dean Foster has written in a variety of genres, including hard science fiction, fantasy, horror, detective, western, historical, and contemporary fiction. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Star Wars: The Approaching Storm and the popular Pip & Flinx novels, as well as novelizations of several films, including Transformers, Star Wars, the first three Alien films, and Alien Nation. His novel Cyber Way won the Southwest Book Award for Fiction, the first science fiction work ever to do so. Foster and his wife, JoAnn Oxley, live in Prescott, Arizona.

This is the second time I have read this bookend it still grabs me. It left me wanting more stories like it.

A rare gem, good read and alost a collectors item for Alan Dean Foster who is the best well known SiFi writer who isnt well known.. everything for Star Treck episodes to Star Wars, Alien etc... Flinx books are brilliant as well..

I REALLY don't know what books the negative reviewers here were reading. I DO know that this is a really good light read. It is a good story that really seems as if it were a movie script turned into a book. I have even written to Mr. Foster about the possibility of making a movie out of this and another called "Into The Out Of". BOTH of these good Foster books are worth it for me to re-read. Jake Pickett is a good character and his "abilities" might not be deeply defined, but basically the unknown stays fairly unknown. A scientist does figure out what he can do, but the greedy company man just doesn't care. They see only an old man. They are typical A- to B+ movie characters that are fun to read about. Forster writes in a way that makes it easy to SEE the story unfold like a fun action movie. I mention "Movie" a lot here as Foster often writes books from popular movie scripts. He is very good at it and SLIPT is written much like those novelizations of movies. I will ALWAYS recommend this book, though it is apparently out of print. If you can buy a copy, I think you will not be disappointed. I was fortunate to find a First Edition / First Printing hardback copy here recently! My paperback copy is nearly worn out from all the times I lent the book out to friends and family. NONE of them had a bad thing to say about it. I think you'll enjoy the characters, the story, and the images drawn up by Foster!
