Avengers Invaders Paperback – January 1, 2009

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

The original Invaders (Captain America, Bucky, Human Torch, Toro, and the Sub-Mariner) return, courtesy of the award-winning team behind Earth X, Justice, and Project: Superpowers! The greatest super-team of World War II finds itself transported from the battlefields of the Second World War to a future they never imagined! Now, the Invaders must face two teams of Avengers who want desperately to believe these heroes are who they say they are, while Tony Stark confronts his greatest challenge since the Civil War as he must deal with the "return" of Steve Rogers. Confronted by a world they barely recognize, the Invaders will have to show Earth's Mightiest Heroes just what kind of power, courage, and sheer determination it took to defeat the forces of unrelenting evil in the twentieth century. In fact, they may just have to do it again in the twenty-first! Collects Avengers/Invaders #1-4.

the writing on this book by JIm Krueger was amazing it kept just enough imformation away form you so you had to keep on reading... the fact that the our time captain america is persumed dead to have the cap from the 1940's appear is great way to give the rest of the marvel universe a real shock... also the meeting of the past and present namor was cool....oh let us not for get that bucky and winter soldier are both here also....and thank you to alex ross who once again shows why he is one of the businesses best workers.

I knew this would be an all-inclusive story that had little to no implications to the real continuity of Marvel 616, but it was a great ride. And I was surprised that it actually DID have some implications - the return of one of the Invaders to modern times! (I Won't spoil it, but it's cool).

While the story seemed a little stretched at times, this probably could've been a little shorter, I still enjoyed it.

And while there was some confusion on the description of the book on Amazon, this hardcover is the ENTIRE limited series. Great book, very nice.

Recommended for those who like the Invaders, or want more Avengers to read (as if there's not enough these days)

How did I miss this book?

This was another recommendation when I bought Alex Ross's  Justice . I was recommended  The Torch  which was written by Ross, but he was not the artist. The same for this collection of an Avengers story, it wasn't Alex Ross's art (other than the cover) --- disappointing.

I was looking for something along the lines of
Justice , Marvels  or  Kingdom Come

I have received my copy of this book today, and it is the full 12 issue series. So for $19.99, I think it is not a bad purchase if you, like me, love both the Avengers and Invaders.

I received this a few days ago and it does collect all 12 issues. The standard retail price on this is $39.99 and not $19.99.

Ouch. Lame plot devices, very clunky storytelling, bad dialog, schmaltzy themes, pedestrian artwork, with no exciting or inventive action-- it all adds up to a barely coherent waste of time. That's coming from someone who owns every Civil War crossover Marvel published. Don't even bother with this mess.
