"Invincible Presents: Atom Eve Collected Edition"
(Image Comics, 2009)
---------------------------------------------------------
This slender volume collects two issues of an Atom Eve origin story, which turns out to be a fairly standard-issue bad-government-secret-project Frankenstein scenario... Robert Kirkman, creator of Invincible and Atom Eve, is listed as an executive editor, but it's readily seen that he did not write this one... The elements are similar, but the light touch is gone. Plus, the artwork is subpar, though effective in its own way.

All in all, this was an okay read. I'm not sure why Image chose to release this as basically a deluxe-sized regular comic, rather than wait to combine it with the Eve-meets-Rex Splode story arc that follows, but I guess it's nice they got something out the door for us to enjoy, given their recent track record with missed release dates, etc. If you're an "Invincible" fan, this is certainly worth picking up. This title rocks. just read vol. 1 and you will be hooked. and it just gets better with each issue.

I picked this up because I really enjoy Invincible and think Eve is one of the more interesting characters, but, honestly, this book was only just so so. It's a generic origins story and not much really happens. I didn't dig the art all that much either. It's probably worth owning if you are filling out your Invincible collection, but if you didn't know who Eve was already I can't see this being of much interest.
