It's not what I was expecting from a comic book. I was too young to read it during the initial run; however, I'm familiar with Noh-Varr from other things he's appeared it and for his fans the origin isn't a disappointment. Far from it. I say that Marvel really has moved a bit from his initial character, which here is frustrated, angry, and quite critical of humanity on the whole. The only thing I didn't like was when some of what I assume to be Morrison's political views and commentary were thrown in there in an obvious fashion; however, it meshes better with the plot than most so it's not bad. Oh, and the promise in the last issue of a sequel series that didn't come to be... I'm pretty sure they could've edited that out.
The book isn't for everyone. It relies a bit more on its text and I feel like a lot isn't so easily spelled out for the reader. It's grittier and definitely for a more mature audience. Still, the art is consistently good (even if Noh wears a ridiculous helmet for a good part of it) and provides an interesting prospective from an alien visitor to our world.
I have to say I agreed with his points after reading it, I've started sharing it to other friends so they can read it as well.
There is the villain, a Dr Midas, who is drawn looking exactly like the classic IronMan. His daughter named Exterminatrix is drawn wearing a dominatrix costume (so no guesses for where the stupid name came from). What is so great about the stupid dialogue? There are many references from Dr Midas to his daughter about fixating on Marvel's genitalia to the point that I think Morrison is suffering from writer's block.
The 3 stars is just for the bloody great artwork, even if there is no real plot here.
