  • New York Times bestselling author, Max Brooks, returns to the frightening world of zombies versus vampires in his groundbreaking follow-up series: Extinction Parade: War! Well known for his breathtakingly original fiction, Brooks pushes the limits of the horror genre with his trademark meticulous research and vision for the next evolution in zombie storytelling.
  • The subdead were always a joke to the aristocratic vampire race. Just a spec on the radar of their immortal lives, nothing worth even a moment's notice in their quest for self-gratification through the veins of their host, the human race. But at last they have been pulled from their ignorance into the reality of the new world order. The human race is facing extinction and should they succumb, so too shall the vampires disappear beneath the waves of rotting walking dead. Now the vampire race has mobilized and formed a grand Army of the Bloodline to combat the growing threat of extinction. But after centuries of ambivalence will they be able to learn how to wage war before it is too late?
  • This volume collects Extinction Parade: War #1-5.

Continues to entertain and a novel approach to the zombie/vampire genre.

Spoilers!!!!!!

Takes place in China. Only issue I had with the plot was that the vampires didn’t know anything about human technology as they thought they were above anything their prey used. Never would have thought vampires wouldn’t use their accumulated wealth and immortality to learn new things, but it was an excellent take on that premise. Great art.

I was suspicious of this series at first because of the inclusion of vampires -- maybe afraid they and the zombies would start fighting over a girl. Instead, it's been a fun read. The action is non-stop while still working to develop the characters. The art work is detailed and brings much to the story in its level of detail and expansiveness. I'm looking forward to Vol. 3.

The first volume of this series had me really excited. It was an interesting look at how vampires would deal with a zombie apocalypse, which refreshing and new. Upon reading the second volume, it turns out that Mel ran out of ideas immediately after the first volume. This entire volume just seems like filler with unnecessary material that doesn’t add anything to the character development or to the series. You could just read that last issue of this volume and completely understand what is going on without missing anything important. Unless your into vampires kill zombies mindlessly with little to no plot or character development, I would pass on this one.

gore! gore! we got 'yer gore! hey, who ordered the gore?! vamps vs zombies, only 'cause the vamps finally got off their lazy you-know-whats, and try to defend whats left of their human "livestock" population. from the global groups of zombies. vamps vs zombies, you wanna' see these fight each other (although honestly the zombies don't at ALL register on the zombies radars), these couple of volumes are a decent read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hugely enjoyable and a nice twost on the usual vampire story

I'm enjoying this series.
The first volume is the setup for this series. vampires living 'life' with no consequences until they notice a new issue they threatens their food source. A few forward thinking vampires realise something must be done.
I really liked the way this volume covers the how the new vampire army is built and the stark similarities that this makes with existing world military that make decisions that don't quite make sense when exposed to an enquiring mind.

Overall this is a good read, the art is OK (not great) but its an interesting story and I really like the twist on vampire evolution. Someone a little different with this book from the mainstream.
