Not as bad as I expected it to be!

Not as bad as I expected it to be!
I grew up in the 90s reading the Claremont and Lee run. I was super intrigued when the X-traitor idea was first mentioned. Unfortunately the hobby became too expensive to sustain at that time and I stopped reading after X-Men no. 33. I heard a lot of bad things about the Onslaught storyline but I need to finish the story of my childhood. And now that I finally have it, honestly, I'm actually enjoying it every issie so far! (I'm halfway through the book already).Sure some of the dialogues are dated and the 90s art might not be for everyone but it's actually not bad as I was expecting it to be (based on other reviews online). I'd compare this book to a summer blockbuster movie. You just sit and enjoy the action packed scenes one after the other! Now for the built of this book. This a heavy, well built book. It's almost impossible to read this book without putting it on top of a table or a pillow on your lap. Marvel also did a great job with the mapping of this book. Considering the large number of titles involved, the book in my opinion is mapped perfectly making the story and developments very easy to follow. Though you need to have some knowledge of Bishop's story, The Age of Apocalypse and the Fatal Attractions storyline to fully enjoy this book. If not, then this book might not be for you. Otherwise this is a very good collection in my opinion.

I loved the bluescale in this image. $20 sale for a library of an omnibus is amazing. Onslaught may vary a bit, but this affordable digital version is great preservation. It even has a couple of previously on…info pages to help catch up if you only knew Onslaught as the final boss from the Marvel vs Capcom video game.

This collection was the first major Marvel story arch that I can remember being legitimately psyched out of my mind for. I was 13 and actually did out door labor to get enough money to buy a good bit of these books. There are a lot of things that happen in comics that are very polarizing, but I believe this was an arch that was done pretty well across all books. The X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Avengers are all the key groups featured and it was the story that lead to Heros Reborn (about a year long attempt to reboot Avengers, Captain America, and Fantastic Four that was not as well received as the 'Ultimate' universe that came later). If you were a fan of this story at the time, this collection is really fun to go back and read. There are some great artists that are involved and the surrounding story's are compiled in a way that makes sense. There were two phases to the Onslaught and this book collects surrounding story's that happen to Heros like Spiderman, Hulk, Green Goblin (yes that character was a hero for a spell in the 90's) and Punisher, in addition to X-Man, Cable, the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four which play major roles.
My only knock on this collection is that I thought other key books should've been incorporated. Xmen #50 was a key book and I would've preferred to see that in this collection rather than the Thor or Punisher stories, which I didn't care for. There was also some key Generation X issues that aren't even included. That and the back section had panels reprinted that lead up to Onslaught. I wish the full pages would've been provided at the beginning as a more of an introduction to this massive happening.
All in all, this book was still fun to read even though I knew everything that was going to happen and it was a great trip down memory lane for my love of comics at that time!

This is an incredible collection! Having collected these comics one by one for years, I was heavily into X-Men related storylines. Onslaught was one of my favorites, but it became hard for me to continue to hold onto the individual comics forever, so I sold them. Book reprints like this make it much easier to have them all in one place. Know this, though--this book is HUGE. By huge, I mean 1,224 pages of actual comics, not counting extra stuff that takes up an additional close to 100 pages. But if you can stumble across this for a decent price, it's well worth the buy!

A new villain has made itself known, defeating the all but invulnerable Juggernaut and as the seemingly unstoppable force known only as Onslaught continues to wreak havoc across the Marvel Comicverse, questions remain: Who is Onslaught? How does he seem to know so much? Can he be stopped?

Enter, dear reader, into the comic event of 1996 and experience the awe, power, and destruction that is Onslaught! The Marvel Universe will never be the same.
