Overview

In this account of the rise and fall of a once historic political movement that was at the forefront of sub-Saharan Africa's democratization forces against the continent's autocratic regimes in the 1990s, we see how John Fru Ndi who by default in 1990 became the leader of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), led the party to commit political suicide in a process that transformed the SDF from a political movement into a political business, and then into a political racket, during his two-and-a-half decade leadership, so that the SDF is now an appendage of the establishment.

Meanwhile, the once hopeful Cameroonian people who in 1990 threw in their support behind so-called leaders of the opposition who a year before were of the establishment and members of the sole party--the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) --are now disillusioned, convinced that they would never have a say in the political evolution of Cameroon even as the country continues to degenerate.

In this account, we are led, hand-in-hand through the journey that saw a hopeful people betrayed by the greatest political party Cameroon and the Central African region had in the 1990s.
